What do you call your baby bump?

When I was really suffering from morning sickness I kept refering to the bab as 'the gremlin', which I am now feeling rather guilty about! I am now waiting for another more affectionate name to come to mind. jsut wondered what everyone else refers to their baby as, if anything at all.

Aww... I enjoyed Loom, pooter! I can still hum the music and remember the puzzles even now, though having a copy on my home PC helps with that.

Anyway, my LO has the pseudonym of Gadget. The reason for this is that I lost one (Hex) last year and at the time DH and I adopted the geeky 80's cartoon saying of "[I'll get you] next time, Gadget!".

Fell pregnant again a couple of months later, so this one is Gadget!

Hex was called Hex as an abbreviation of Hexadecimal. Because, um... We're geeky and had a conversation at the time about calculating conception and birthdates in Hexadecimal.

KayloHalo · 05/02/2010 09:16

Spirael we need to stop meeting like this

My LO is called Pear

With dd her bumps nickname was Apple
With ds his bump was Peach

Because they're so unisex - we did find out the sex of both of them at their 20wk scans and from then they were their own names (Sophie and Rio) rather than the fruity ones.

Not finding out with this one tho (up to now) I'm 15 weeks, so theres time to change my mind

AKMD · 05/02/2010 09:31

Bean for the very original reason that that is what he looked like when we found out.

"He" because we don't know the sex and I am geeky too and know that in statutes 'he' encompasses 'she' unless otherwise stated.

"Wretched infant" now that he is engaged and uses what I think is a very sharp nose to headbutt my cervix.

pooter · 05/02/2010 09:32

spirael I enjoyed loom too . I bet you also liked Monkey Island Guybrush Threepwood!

I am pleased there are other geeky mumsnetters - my husband has been known to get my birthday cards in hexadecimal....there is no hope!

starshaker · 05/02/2010 09:34

dd was bumps and this time its the twinlettes lol

SquirtsMum · 05/02/2010 09:39

DP named bump 'Squirt' the the moment we knew, the whole family now call bump Squirt
Always referred to as 'he' even though we didn't want to find out the sex

xxxx

MarineIguana · 05/02/2010 09:44

First one was bean/beanie and now DP calls this one bean too, but I feel a bit mean to S that the new bump has nicked his bump name!

So when I talk to this one I call it baby or sometimes bug/buglet (for some reason, don't know where that came from...)

MarineIguana · 05/02/2010 09:44

DS that is

blacksmith · 05/02/2010 09:48

monkey, coz its monkeying around in there causing all sorts of havoc!

Spirael · 05/02/2010 09:55

We do seem to run into one another a lot, Kaylo! We apparently have the same haunts and posting schedules. Incidentally... Going by your theme, surely one of your LO's should have been Satsuma??

Yep, Monkey Island is good too, pooter. Curse of was the best, I feel. "I choose the banjo!" Love Day of the Tentacle as well, though I struggled a bit with Maniac Mansion. Kept getting trapped in the dungeon!

It's a shame they don't make many games like that anymore, though some of the more modern offerings are good in different ways. Currently I'm losing my free time to Dragon Age: Origins.

I'm sure there must be more geeks out there... Anyone else want to confess to geeky names for their bumps??

merryxmasfellowbumps · 05/02/2010 10:16

squirt

KayloHalo · 05/02/2010 10:18

Well, dd has ginger hair does that count

KayloHalo · 05/02/2010 10:20

Doh - just got it

You're absolutely right - and it never even crossed my mind to nickname them 'Satsuma' at all. Would have been very appropriate

catastrojb · 05/02/2010 10:39

i started off calling her "spawn", much to dh's horror (my mother said her scan picture looked like a tadpole...from which frogspawn was born ). she became Cookie (not very original given our surname) once he threatened divorce/severe violence if I didn't change it .

lovingeverymoment · 05/02/2010 11:57

baby bear - DH is bear (big rugby boy that he is...) I'm just hoping that BB doesn't inherit daddy's shoulders just yet!

kay1980 · 05/02/2010 15:24

Bubs

MrsJamin · 05/02/2010 15:32

To DH I refer to him as "your son" and to DS I refer to him as "your brother". I can't stand people calling their babies "bean", can't quite explain why but it totally grates on me.

fillybuster · 05/02/2010 15:36

DC1 was 'Smurf' until the moment he was born. Always worried thought it might stick, but it got dropped within a few days.

DC2 was 'Grape', for the same reasons as Arcadie...dh was pretty good at sending me weekly updates ("your baby is now as big as an xx") with dc1 but we only got as far as Grape with DC2 before he gave up and lost interest

DC3 is currently known as 'Flump', for no particular reason, but it seems to fit and I've had no complaints yet

randomama · 05/02/2010 15:43

DS was Moonbeam because he was conceived on the harvest moon. This one is, shamefully, mostly referred to as simply 'this one' , although my bestio calls it Sunbeam .

fayzalmoonbeam · 05/02/2010 19:34

She was called "Jess Baby" for a while until we found out her sex (due to DH's family nickname) and she's also been known as "Frogmella" and "Spudulika" after Harry Enfield's spawn of his characters Wayne and Waynetta Slob [evil parent to be emoticon]. Now we just call her by the name she'll have when she comes out

PennyScotia · 06/02/2010 11:12

We call ours Jellybean - it was DH gran's nickname (she was Jenny but his brother couldn't pronounce that so it ended up jelly then jellybean) and when my MIL asked me what we would call a daughter if we had one (think this might have been before we even got married), I just said the first thing that popped into my head which was 'jellybean'. So with the family connection it has sort of stuck.

stinkypinky · 06/02/2010 11:38

My niece was, and still is at 18, 'stumpy' as she had little stumps for arms and legs at time of pregnancy test.

DD was 'little one', and I am currently pregnant with 'babyseed'. Chose this as trying to explain to DD (3) about impending siblinghood following watching peppa pig gardening with Grandpa. Made sense to her, but as now 30 weeks, have tried to start referring to 'baby'. She will not have it, so think name will stick... Do not know gender so cannot allocate proper name yet.

myfirstbump · 06/02/2010 12:12

"Baby"

We tried other nicknames but none of them really worked for us - we both felt a bit daft. We tried 'smudge' for a bit, as that's what Baby looked like on the scan, and 'Satsuma' when trying to demonstrate to my brother how big it was at some stage. But they didn't stick and we're back with Baby.

And it's a 'he' as a generic term until we find out on the day.

AKMD pmsl at "wretched infant"
