Signs of labour starting soon?

I have had a dodgy tummy and mild backhache for the last 2 days. I am also feeling more emotional and sometimes a bit down. As I am 37 weeks I am starting to become obsessed that this may be a sign that my body is gearing up for labour. Then I think it could be another 4 weeks!!!
As I was induced with Dd I am not familiar with the build up to labour and am finding I can't get on and do anything because a) I feel like a big fat tired walrus and b) I keep analysing how I feel.
Anyone had similar experience?

Dhalia (and others) good luck - you are so close now. My little one arrived on her due date (albeit after several long days and night?s labour) so it does happen and is possible!! Let us know how you al get on.

Dahlia · 20/06/2003 14:59

Hi Stripymouse, my dd was born on her due date, she was due on a Saturday too, and it all started at 9.15 on the Friday night, so tonight I will be sitting here holding my breath to see what happens! Only thing is, we are at a school choir concert tonight that dd is taking part in for the first time so she is really excited, and chances are we will be sitting right in the middle where it will take an hour to get out and my waters will break and everyone will slip over in them.

AliP · 20/06/2003 15:02

no news I'm afraid but I'll be thinking of you Dahlia - I hope you do go on time.

thanks for all the kind thoughts.

motherinferior · 20/06/2003 20:12

I was thinking how romantic to have a solstice baby too.

Seriously found myself wondering today why anyone had any objections to surrogacy...but feel I've entered the land of limbo where I shall just get more and more and more enormous till I drop down dead of old age.

DD was two days early - but OTOH I knew I'd ovulated two days early, which is how I ended up getting pregnant in the first place.

StripyMouse · 20/06/2003 21:10

Thinking of you at that concert Dhalia and hoping that you got through it waters intact! I have this image of you pushing chairs out of the way mid chorus to rush to the loo...Will be thinking of you tonight and really hope your wishes come true. Good Luck.

Anyone got anywhere?

and are you surviving this weather? I keep collapsing into bed like a clubbed seal. Can't be bothered to sort last baby clothes/ buy cot mattress/ pack hospital box/pack dd's stuff for if I do go to hospital or we decide to take her somewhere else anyway while I'm in labour. In some ways it all still feels incredibly distant as I'm still only in week 37 - and I haven't yet had a hair cut or dyed my hair or eyelashes....

pupuce · 22/06/2003 19:39

So it won't happen tonight

AliP · 22/06/2003 21:20

Still hanging on here although about to phone hospital as beginning to think things are moving. Just had a nice warm bath and continued to get pains but since getting out they have spread out timewise again - hey ho.

Hopefully Dahlia has had more luck as we haven't heard from her since Friday!

pupuce · 22/06/2003 21:28

Goody Ali P.... good luck

Dahlia · 23/06/2003 00:32

Hi Everybody!
Please check out birth announcements!

AliP · 23/06/2003 08:51

Oh wow Dahlia that is fantastic - your wish came true. I'm so pleased for you.

I'm just getting ready to go to my overdue appointment at the hospital to discuss what next as after a period of intense contractions every 6-7 minutes for about an hour last night they slowly got further apart and stopped again - this baby does not want to come out of there!!

I'll post again later when we have their decision!

motherinferior · 23/06/2003 11:28

Isn't that fab about Dahlia? I burst into tears. AliP - you poor love.

I'm just trekking along, catching up on that much-needed sleeeeeep...baby spent most of last night shifting around; it may have been trying to engage or it may not. Little bugger.

AliP · 23/06/2003 12:56

Hi Back from the hospital - had a fab midwife - just so matter of fact and happy to explain things felt the most reassured and confident i have done all pregnancy! So anyway everything is fine - she offered to do an internal and a sweep and i took her up on it and I am 2 cm dilated so she thinks things should begin to move soon, although i have a date for induction of Thursday - so can you all get your posiive thoughts going for a spontaneous (SP!) start of labour before then please!

hope you are all well, off to bed now as slept really badly last night.

motherinferior · 23/06/2003 13:14

I'm getting thoroughly confused. My back aches, even iron supplements aren't alleviating my dodgy tummy, my nights are spent with sprog trying, I think, to ram its head into my pelvis accompanied by period-style cramps. These are (a) all signs of late pregnancy (actually even I'd spotted that)but (b)could go on for weeks, right?

M2T · 24/06/2003 08:43

Motherinferior - the first 2 there unfortunately could got on for weeks, but I didn't get period style cramps until the few hours before my labour started.....

colette · 24/06/2003 12:59

Lovely news about Dahlia !
MotherInferior I have had cramps peaking on Friday night when I ended up phoning the labour ward convinced it was the beginning. Then they stopped . So I know how you feel . I am trying to plan something for everyday so I don't feel I'm just waiting.
I saw a great midwife yesterday ( I wish I could have her at the birth) as I have a trace of sugar in urine she has advised me to avoid sweet things and eat complex carbs. I feel seriously deprived of my main pleasure in life . The baby's head is engaged but that doesn't really mean labour is about to happen does it?
AliP - hope to hear your good news soon

Collette - I'm afraid with your first one the head can engage a few weeks before labour. BUT.... it's certainly moving in right direction.

My ds's head engaged at 37 weeks and he was born at 39 weeks. So it was still nice to be a week early.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU ALL AND GETTING WALKING!

motherinferior · 24/06/2003 13:46

Well, hair is cut and eyelashes tinted so all ready to go...unfortunately the period-style cramps have been happening for the past few nights so no indication there. Perhaps I'll go and dye my hair - omigod, also have to pack hospital bag at some point as well!

M2T · 24/06/2003 13:53

Get your bag packed!!

Is this your first baby MotherInferior..... judging by tha eyelash tinting and hair styling comments.

My visitors arrived 3 hours after ds was born. I'd had no sleep for 36 hours and just wanted left alone. I didn't even brush my hair or clean my teeth for them coming in coz I couldn't have cared less..... in fact.... I think I had forgotten that I HAD hair!!

motherinferior · 24/06/2003 13:55

Second babe - AND MY WATERS JUST BROKE!!!!!

SoupDragon · 24/06/2003 13:55

Oooooooh!!! Exciting!!!

Good luck!

SoupDragon · 24/06/2003 13:57

Um... DS2 arrived 30 minutes after my waters broke....
