Im exactly the same im 7 weeks and for the past week had a constant wave of nausea in my stomach.I was so lucky with my first pregnancy had no symptoms and sailed through the full 9 months, they do say no 2 pregnancies are the same though. The only thing that i find helps is strong sweet tea seems to settle it for a while, let me know if you find a cure.

yama · 24/01/2010 11:05

Nine weeks here and I've actually had to take a day off work. I don't feel so sick anymore but the tiredness is flooring me.

Like Fluster I sailed through first pregnancy so this is new.

I'm just hoping that my second trimester will be much easier.

yama · 24/01/2010 13:00

Spoke too soon - feeling really sick today.

Karrierbag · 24/01/2010 13:04

Exactly the same but I'm 33 weeks today. Sorry to tell you but I have felt like this from about week 8!! Hope it eases off for you soon xx

LizzieHart · 24/01/2010 14:11

Oh dear - I am so sorry to hear you are all feeling so poorly, and I don't think I am going to cheer you up with my story! I am nearly 19 weeks and I started throwing up at just before 6 weeks (thought I had food poisioning!). I struggled to stay at work for about 5 weeks, and I have been off ever since.

The good news is I have a fantastic doctor who had severe morning sickness with her pregnanies, so she actually paid attention to me and ended up prescribing me medication for it, which has helped, and instead of throwing up 3 times a day, I have got it down to 3 times a week.

I still feel nauseous constantly, have a horrible taste in my mouth, burp constantly and I am salivating for Britain! The biggest problem I have is that I have lost my appitite completely. I have gone off all the things I normally love.

What ever you do, don't make guilt another thing you feel! If work, friends, family don't understand, then that is their problem, not yours. I am not sure about where you work, but where I work, morning sickness is not dealt with in the same way other sickness is. Stress and tiredness can make the morning sickness so much worse so take it easy and rest, eat as much as you can, when you can and keep your fluids up.

I am on a strick eat every two hours and drink something in the hour in between and if I don't, I start to wretch.

If your sickness doesn't improve, go to your doctor and make regular visits. I was fed up with people palming me off saying "Its just normal dear!" when I knew deep down that it wasn't. This is my first pregnancy so I had nothing to compare it to.

If there is anyone out there with advice on how to help, then please let me know as well!

Ooo - hard boiled sweets... I have found they help too!

pipinmybelly · 24/01/2010 14:11

im 13 weeks and feel exactly the same!! have had an upset tummy since wed too not sure if this is normal? nearly threw up 3 times in tesco earlier! have felt like this everyday for about 8 weeks now

LizzieHart · 24/01/2010 14:18

The otherting I didn't mention (and no one mentioned) that after feeling rotten for so long, what that does to you mentally. I know pregnancy is a highly emotionally charged time, but I would burst into tears after throwing up! My poor husband didn't know what to do with himself, apart from doing all the cooking and washing up as I couldn't!

PositiveAttitude · 24/01/2010 14:32

Sorrry that you are all feeling absolutely rotten.

The one thing that stopped me feeling so sick and made it possible for me to function on some sort of level for the entire 9 months (yep, sorry mine was from within a week of conception to 30 minutes before labour started each time - 5 times over!) I used travel sickness bands. They stopped me feeling so bad, but nobody warned me that they might not actually stop throwing up. It took a few embarrassing situations for me to relearn when I was going to hurl. I would be having a conversation with someone and would suddenly throw up, right there!!! Not very socialable behaviour! Soon learnt to be permanently in my kitchen so that I could throw my head over the sink at a seconds notice.

hope you all feel better soon and it doesn't last til the end! It is worth it though... I did keep repeating the experience thinking I could not possibly be so bad next time....

LizzieHart · 24/01/2010 14:37

That is good to hear, as I have had horrible thoughts that I never want to go through this again! I am hoping for the pregnancy amnesia I have heard all about! ;)

Allegrogirl · 24/01/2010 15:46

I have 24 hour nausea but despite the constant heaving guts I haven't thrown up once. I still feel dreadful but not ill enough to be off work so I have grit my teeth and get on with it.

I was like this in my last pregnancy from 5-17 weeks but it never completely wore off until I gave birth. This time I have a 2 year old to run around after as well. DH is waiting for knee surgery in a couple of months and is doing his best but in lots of pain.

The days are going very slowly at the moment but at least this time I know how thrilling the end result will be.

squishy · 24/01/2010 20:30

I was like that in my first pregnancy, never sick but felt it all day, all night from 7-18 weeks - relied on Nux Vomica - just about took off the nausea enough to function like a semi-sane human at work. Used to come home and collapse, though, can't imagine having the same sickness with DD around - eek!

MHill · 24/01/2010 20:41

I was like that when i was pregnant with DD1 and was hoping it wouldn't be the same this time, but it is! Can't really offer much advice except agree with LizzieHart about eating and drinking regularly (if you can). Also, I so agree about what it does to you mentaly. Just keep telling yourself it will be worth it when you hold your lovely baby. (and you will forget how bad it was - otherwise why would so many of us do it again?! In my case after just 10 months!)

CazEM · 24/01/2010 20:45

Yeh, I was feeling sick constantly and being sick numerous times a day from week 6 - 11. This week (12) I have only been sick 3 times, I'm so hoping this means it has eased off and not just a flukey week to go back to it all again!!!!

designerjooles · 25/01/2010 11:41

I'm week 8 and feel nauseous literally all day. I haven't been sick but quite often retch. Have realised that i simply can't go into anywhere that has food nor watch anything foodie on telly!
My poor suffering husband has always done the cooking, (he loves it) but i fear his enjoyment is wearing off as i am requesting boiled rice or plain cous cous.
I too have discovered the sickness bands which take the edge off but hadn't heard of Nux Vomica. Will check it out squishy.

LizzieHart · 25/01/2010 19:52

My morning sickness started 2am on 24th Oct 09 (I will never forget that date!) and its still here. designerjooles I know what you mean - I had to go through all the Iceland and MArks & Spencer adverts for food! Had to turn away from the TV!

mrswill · 25/01/2010 20:54

Hello all, massive sympathies you are all feeling so ill, Ive been there and its relentless misery. I'll be on here too complaining of the same thing in a few months if I catch with DC2 .

The only things Ive found worked, other than medication, is full sugar freezing coke, drunk immediately after waking up, and topped up through the day. And eating somehting you can face, and keep very still for half an hour so it doesnt come up. And thats about it.

With DD I was ill from the off to about 25 weeks, but still couldnt face much food all the way through. I remember everytime I moved I was sick, and had to carry round a cup as I couldnt stand the taste of my own saliva TMI . Ended up in and out of hospital, then put on cyclizine, which was the turning point for me. If you are feeling very ill, dont be afraid to go to your doctor and ask for anti sickness medication that will make your pregnancy bearable. Am usually a lentil weavery type, and avoid most drugs, prefering Reiki, and natural remedies, but admittedly these did nowt, well for me anyway. Acupuncture didnt work for me, but Ive heard good things about it from other people. No matter how bad it seems now, it will have an end!

mrswill · 25/01/2010 20:57

Lizziehart - I forgot about the tv adverts for food! When I was really rough, about 6/7 weeks, it was christmas time, and the M&S adverts used to be on with a close up of the turkey getting carved. Bleurgh.

hellymelly · 25/01/2010 20:59

I felt really nauseous, like travel sickness, all the time pretty much all the way through each pregnancy, although it was slightly better in the last trimsester.the tiredness was better after about 12 weeks, still tired, but not that terrible drugged feeling. But you know, its so worth it all in the end

Ripeberry · 25/01/2010 21:02

Have you tried eating bananas? The sickness with me was because my body was craving energy and nutrients and eating bananas helped calm the nausea.

kmac80 · 25/01/2010 21:47

Definitely a low point in my pregnancy, and I've learnt to ignore the annoying comments like 'it is a good sign' and 'all part of the process'! Imagine a man putting up with this?! Only things I found that did help, or perhaps it was just psychological, were travel sickness bands, sweets beside the bed, especially when you wake in the morning and your blood sugar is down, dry salty crackers and eating small amounts frequently. Good luck everyone, I feel your pain!

butterscotch · 25/01/2010 21:50

Like others I sailed through first pregnancy but this time I'm still being sick (26 weeks tomorrow) and now have heartburn to add to my woes

I think you hav eto find what works for you first pregnancy it passed by 13 weeks or so and McCoys salt and vinegar crisps helped along with Ice-cream (about 2-3 tubs of Ben and Jerrys a week), and sunflower and pumpkin seeds!

I used to get two double cheese burgers from Mcdonalds on my way home to survive the train journey home!

This time I've not found any sure fixes I'm worse on work days but I think that is the getting out of the house in the mornings that is killing me!

I hope everyone's sickness passes quickly! think of the lovely baby at the end it will be worth it!

LizzieHart · 25/01/2010 22:35

mrswill - ditto! I had a craving for coke. I was violently ill (tmi) on evening and then sent hubby out for coke and drank 3 cans in a row! unlike me at all - I never drink the stuff usually! Good luck with DC2! My bump was IVF and I can't help thinking that the sickness is a way of my body telling me "I told you so!" !

My morning routine is chocolate complan as I was losing weight. as long as I don't move long enough for it to leave my stomach and digest I am ok!

I also can't stand the taste of my own saliva and have to spit often!

Ripeberry - Tried bananas, I had them in smoothies with milk or yogurt, until I threw onw up! Does anyone else find that if they throw something up, you are put off eating it again for a LONG time?

kmac80 - oh if only I had a £1 for everytime someone said "Its a good sign".....

Saucepanman · 25/01/2010 22:43

Huge sympathies from me, am 21 weeks on wed and still feeling bleurgh. Pregnancies have gone like this:

No 1- severe hyperemisis, hospitalised twice, sick every day
No 2- sick every day, some days constantly
No 3- sick most mornings, stopped at 16 weeks- hurrah!
No 4 (this one)- still puking the odd day, and feeling grimola most of the time.

I feel a bit cheated, as they had got progressively better until now. I was hoping to stop puking earlier, following the pattern. I put it down to having to do the school run this time round, and being that bit older.

Today has been fun, 7yo ds been vomiting! Wrist bands not helped me, eating every hr did stave it off- I don't need to do this now, thank god. Ginger biscuits did actually work this time- first time ever. Also creamy desserts seem to work too- trifle, fruit fool, yoghurt, ice cream- who knows why?!

Good luck and god bless, even if it never goes completely I promise you it will as soon as the baby is born, you will one day feel better!

Saucepanman · 25/01/2010 22:44

oh and butterscotch- now I want 2 double cheeseburgers! Oh the cravings! And the heartburn!

PositiveAttitude · 26/01/2010 07:57

Lizziehart - One day I absolutely HAD to have a cornish pasty when I was pregnant with DS (5th pregnancy that had gone for more than 20 weeks). I remember throwing it back up and it was the most disgusting thing ever! I have never been able to look at one since - and he is now a huge teenager who towers above me and pats me on the head.
