Okay. I'm 25 weeks pregnant today. DH and I dont know the sex of the baby, we wanted it to be a surprise. We're very settled on the name if we have a son (which I'm inclined to believe we are having) but have no clue about a girl. I had a dream the other night where we had a girl and for months on end we couldn't register her as we couldn't settle on a name.
We've toyed with a couple of names, only to have other people I know who are due before me say they're using that name too, and having grown up with the most ordinary name ever, I want my child to have an usual / different but not too bizarre name.

Anybody got any suggestions they can add to my growing list? I'm sure we're going to end up pulling a name out the hat, but I'm struggling with more ideas and reading the same baby name book is getting a bit boring!

I really love Eadie but I like to shorten names and can't think of a longer version other than Edith which everyone laughed at when I was pregnant.

I also like Annie which isn't as popular as it used to be

PeachyClair · 30/06/2005 14:37

Annie is nice and I like Edith too though, but Edie (sorry wrongs pelling I know) is really nice.

Depending on your surname, I thinks it's fine actually!

jessicasmummy · 30/06/2005 14:51

LunarSea · 30/06/2005 15:17

I met a Melody (or perhaps Melodie?) recently, which is nice. And I quite like Kezia, which is old testament biblical and was my great grandmothers name, but is unusual these days.

PeachyClair · 30/06/2005 15:34

I liked edith alison mccafrerty too, I think it works really well

Kezia and Melody are nice too, a knew a Melody and she loved the name.

Yvette is a name I havnt heard in ages.

tallulah · 02/07/2005 10:05

If you look here a lot of the names on this thread people think of as unusual are actually becoming very popular.

My ds's teacher is called Melody (Meds for short)
Ds1 would have been Carys or Ella if he was a girl & ds2 would have been Poppy.
We have a little girl at the school I work in called Coralie, which I think is pretty.

Springchicken · 04/07/2005 15:57

I started off wanting Edie but DP said it was an old laides name so we settled on Evie for DD.

Lauren
Ella
Ellie
Lucy
Casey
Rhea
Gracie

but if he was a girl i was gonna name him morgan and i also like ellie-mai, arianne or arianna

eidsvold · 05/07/2005 05:10

blueteddy Meds is a tampon brand here in Aus

Nemo - love rebecca - it is dd2's second name

Dd1's second name is Grace...

What about

Kathryn Allison - Kate Allison

Our other names for dd1 - Edie

Dd2 - Maya, Faith, Clare, Kate, Elizabeth, Louise, Cara, Bethann, Bethany, Beatrix

Funnily when I was pregnant with dd1 - convinced I was having a girl and a Girls name was all we could agree on... no agreement on boy's names. Thankfully she was a girl.

Dd2 - we could agree on a boy's name and felt like I was having a boy. Could agree on a one of two first names for dd2 and had to struggle with a second name - finally agreed on her name the day before she was born!! SHe definitely suits the name we chose and would not have suited Maya.
