Bleeding at almost 20 weeks, can anyone advise me?

I'm 19+3, just passed some very dark brown blood and a small clot, I'm a bit concerned. I had bleeding from about 6 - 9 weeks, I had a scan and the baby was absolutely fine, so I think the blood was coming from my cervix (but this wasn't confirmed by a midwife or anything) it eventually tailed off and stopped, nothing since, baby fine at 12 week scan.

So it's probably my cervix again (I went shopping today, pushed ds and heavy shopping up a few hills etc) but it has really shaken me up, should I call my midwife or just see how it goes, do you think?

I would definitely call the hospital as you don't actually know where the blood is coming from. I'd be surprised if they didnt' want to see you to examine you and mkae sure the baby is ok. Good luck.

Call your midwife and let her know, she will be able to set your mind at rest.

It is probably just because you overdid it a bit, your body's way of telling you to slow down. Get your feet up, have a cup of tea. Can you get someone to give you a hand with DS for a couple of hours so that you can have a rest?

MandaHugNKiss · 21/12/2009 14:53

Definitely give your midwife/midwifery team a call - I presume you haven't had your anomoly scan and so you don't know where your placenta is? If it's low laying, that could be the issue.

It could well be your cervix, an erosion perhaps, but you really need to get checked out (if only to put your mind at rest - you admit to being really shaken up and to have that feeling uncertainty hoverin over you is no fun).

Good luck and keep us posted if you can.

I would give the hospital a ring and get it checked out ASAP. Please!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/12/2009 14:59

I have rung my sister in case I need taking to the doctors or anything (dp in work til 7pm) I'll ring my midwife now for advice, thanks.

I had this on and off throughout my first pregnancy. It was a cervical erosion. I was back and forth getting checked out until they found the erosion just a few weeks before i had my DD! I was even sat there hooked up to fetal monitor all alone on christmas eve while the staff had a party down the corridor Well worth getting it checked out, you will feel much better as i did after every visit!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/12/2009 15:04

ffs, I've just been through my notes, the phone number to call isn't anywhere, every single box where it should be written is blank

no more to add just wanted to wish you well, x

FluffyPumpkins · 21/12/2009 15:05

ring delivery ward at your hosp.

HeffaMerryChristmas · 21/12/2009 15:06

Hope everything's OK James, take care.

JodieO · 21/12/2009 15:10

Agree, just call the hospital.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/12/2009 15:10

I'm ok, found the number online and rang them, they said if you're under 20 weeks you have to either go to your doctors, or go to casualty. They were a lot more helpful last time and I was only 6 weeks!

Go to casulty then. I was 20 weeks when it happened to me, went to casulty and they sent me to labour ward.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/12/2009 15:21

I have made a doctors appointment for tomorrow morning, if it gets worse I will go to casualty today. And this time I'll insist on someone at least attempting to have a look to tell me if it's my cervix!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 21/12/2009 15:32

I really don't want to worry you but I really think you should go today.

MummyTumble · 21/12/2009 15:40

i'd go to casualty too...can't see what a gp would do....probably have a chat and send you to the hospital.

is there not a pregnancy assessment unit?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/12/2009 15:41

I don't have anyone to take me right now unless it's an absolute emergency (and even so my sister won't be able to get here for about an hour as she has long distance visitors there at the moment doing their christmas visit, and she lives about 30 mins away) but dp will be home in 3 hours, and if it's any worse we'll go straight to the hospital.

I had three weeks of this not so long ago, so it's probably the same thing, but if I get any fresh blood I'm going as soon as I possibly can. Promise!

Mummytumble, I changed hospitals about 3 weeks ago, the last one did have an epu, they had me in for a scan (at 6.5 weeks) as soon as they could after the out of hours doctor rang them. But the new hospital apparently doesn't have an epu, and the midwife I spoke to wasn't interested as soon as she heard I was under 20 weeks.

I'm really suprised they are treating you like that. In my last pregnancy I had braxton hicks which I have never experince in any of my previous pregnancies. I was so worried as I could both feel and see them that I called the labour ward and they told me to come straight in, they really were very reassuring and were gvery happy for me to be there rather than stressing at home.

JodieO · 21/12/2009 16:15

How are you now? You really should go in though, honestly.

first1 · 21/12/2009 16:17

You sound like a very calm person James. I hope everything is ok. You can always call a cab or neighbour x

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/12/2009 16:30

Hi, I'm only calm because as I said, I had three weeks of it a few weeks back. It really put me through the wringer (and I'm not as calm as I probably sound, I just went to the loo and was literally shaking at what I might find, but the tissue was clean)

I'm quite disgusted that the midwife I spoke to didn't ask anything about the bleeding at all, I feel sorry for anyone who rings her when they're in the middle of a miscarriage, she had about as much empathy as brick!

Anyway I'm fine right now, I'm resting on the sofa, ds is watching cbeebies, he's no trouble.

JodieO · 21/12/2009 16:36

Honestly I really wouldn't wait, I have 3 dcs and have ahd 5 mc's too. Bleeding 3 weeks ago is more than likely unrelated to now, it could be anything, it probably is nothing but don't take the chance. Bleeding should always be investigated as it could be coming from anywhere.

MmeherewegoawassailLindt · 21/12/2009 16:44

Sorry that your midwife was not more sympathetic. How are you doing now?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 21/12/2009 17:45

I'm ok thanks, still lying here, thankfully my little boy had some fresh air and a run about earlier so I don't feel too bad about him being left to gawp at gigglebiz now!

Dp will be home in an hour, I've had no more bleeding and I'll be resting and letting him see to ds tonight. I am getting checked out first thing tomorrow morning. In the meantime if there's any change we won't hesitate to go to casualty.
