Hi Ladies,
Myself and my 11 month old son have booked in for the swine flu jab on Tuesday (I'm 19 weeks pregnant).
I'm still completely undecided about whether or not to have it - my doctors don't offer Celvapan unless you're allergic to eggs and I've read all the info on it but can't quite make up my mind.
So I thought it might be useful to just see by a 'yes' or 'no' response to see how many people are/aren't going to have it.
Thanks! x

Undecided atm for me (currently 16 wks), but if I do I'll have Celvapan.

Pretty sure it's a no for DS (22 months).

This might help

Is Swine Flue Safe? - diagram

DS (11months) is going to have it a.s.a.p.

superbean · 14/12/2009 18:00

yes, had Celvapan at 22 weeks, mainly because my babies might arrive early and if they are in special care I want them to have some immunity.

Chalkpink · 14/12/2009 18:10

Yes - having first celvapan jab on Wednesday. Will be 31 weeks with dc4. Took the DOH statement to GP and got referred immediately to the celvapan clinic at local hospital (although I have had to wait a few weeks).

I have 3 children, two at school and one at nursery. Still to work out whether the youngest should get the vaccine.

midnightsun · 14/12/2009 20:36

Yes I had it (Pandemrix) at around 24 weeks, 6 or 7 weeks ago. My three and a half year old son had it 3 weeks ago and my DH just had it 4 days ago. So we're all set NOT to infect our newborn at home when he makes his appearance in a couple of months' time.

sazlocks · 14/12/2009 20:39

yes I had Pandemrix about 5 weeks ago when I was 29 weeks pregnant

DS is 23 months old and not sure whether he will have it or not.

GoldenGreen · 14/12/2009 20:40

Yes, had Pandemrix two weeks ago at 16 weeks pg.

Undecided about ds, who is 3.6 and not in a high risk group.

FlyingReindeer · 14/12/2009 20:48

Just made the decision today to have it.

Have had it.

32 + 3.

Twig79 · 15/12/2009 14:43

hi I'm having it tomorrow at 13 wks - is that too early? I normally get the flu jab as i'm asthmatic as well so they are keen to give me this swine flu jab but I'm not so sure - any advice?

tallbirduk · 15/12/2009 15:56

Yes - had it at 7 weeks - now 12+5 (scan yesterday, all fine).

DS will be getting it when he is called (he's 18 months).

chocoholic16 · 15/12/2009 18:50

yes - had pandemrix at 26 weeks and all is well. My DD is 5 so hasn't been offered it but would def give it to her too Swine Flu seems to be everywhere by us at the moment and I just know I would have been frantic if I hadn't had it. Have not regretted my decision at all. Also I know of 2 people who had Pandemrix and have since had their babies and they are absolutely fine

Bexybear · 15/12/2009 19:23

had pandemrix jab when it was offered, I was 18 weeks, it was not an easy decision. Two weeks later DP and DS (5) went down with suspected swine flu and not mildly either and there are confirmed cases at DSs school, so I was hugely relived then that i had had the jab.

All fine at 20 week scan other than baby in wrong position to see what sex it was

newmomma · 15/12/2009 20:52

Well... I had it.

I was scared senseless and cried afterwards but its done now so I can't stress about it anymore.

Apart from the fact my arm hurts like hell and am starting to feel crappy already...

I just decided that according to the statistics 1% of the population are pregnant and of that proportion 10% who fall with swine flu end up in ITU - generally resulting in losing the baby and in some instances death to the mother also.

I know there are perceived unknown risks to the unborn baby from a relatively new vaccine but ultimately I have my son to consider - he's only 11 months and my main priority until dc2 comes along. I have to ensure he has his mummy for as long as possible and if that means gambling with an unknown future to ensure I don't end up dying in intensive care because of some flu virus then so be it.

You also can't take any tamiflu or antibiotics if you get swine flu whilst pregnant - paracetamol only - another factor in why pregnant women just don't cope well with it.

Sorry for the 'heavy' post but thought I'd better let you all know my decision having started this thread.

I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with my decision - I'm not sure I exactly 'agree' with having had it - but a decision had to be made one way or the other. If I'd been nearer the end (30+ weeks) I might have gambled it and tried the waiting game...

Anyway - thanks for all your posts - it was really useful to see what everyone else's opinions were. Either way.

cheers.

I had it today (12 +3) - definitely don't want to end up in hospital! You can take antibiotics when pregnant, and some anti-virals. Obviously antibiotics would be useless against swine flu though, as it is viral, not bacterial.

maybebaby23 · 17/12/2009 22:24

I had it at 35 weeks. Big big decision. I burst into tears in the nurses room and was very upset for a while afterwards but i feel much better knowing its done now. Especially as DD1 got really poorly 10 days after i had the vaccine and i think she had swine flu! FIL has also been diagnosed so its getting very close to us now. I would be frantic if i hadn't had the vaccine!

layman · 31/12/2009 02:33

No.

Because the WHO declared this to be a pandemic very early on, the Vac. companies have a legal indemnity in case anything goes wrong.
So if their rushed through vaccination (which could not have been tested on babies in the womb in trials) leads to you or your darling child having health problems in the future, they are legally not at fault.

I'll take my chances with Swine Flu.

We've come long way since June and the WHOs death projections, which have so far have been wrong - thankfully.

santabringmeababy · 31/12/2009 12:14

yes- had it whilst TTC, weighed up the potential risks of getting serious complications from SW (minimal but clearly identified and cannot be ignored) against risks of the jab, which are the same as for the 'normal' flu jab, ie anaphalxis localised reaction etc.

I would gladly get DS vaccinated as well but he has just had it, as has his cousin (hospita;ised with pneumonia) and also two kids at his nursery who have had it and ended up in hopsital (all ok now thankfully).

Joygirl78 · 31/12/2009 13:36

Yes. Had it at about 27 weeks. Now 34 weeks, no problems at all
