Hi Ladies,
Myself and my 11 month old son have booked in for the swine flu jab on Tuesday (I'm 19 weeks pregnant).
I'm still completely undecided about whether or not to have it - my doctors don't offer Celvapan unless you're allergic to eggs and I've read all the info on it but can't quite make up my mind.
So I thought it might be useful to just see by a 'yes' or 'no' response to see how many people are/aren't going to have it.
Thanks! x

No, I am not having it done - am 34 wks.

3frenchhens · 13/12/2009 18:03

Not for me. It is of course, a personal choice. I let all the info sink in for a bit then made my decision

MrsCrawf · 13/12/2009 18:13

Yes - I had it a few weeks ago in 2nd semester. Our surgery haven't offered it to children yet, but I expect I will get it for DS when offered.

whifflegarden · 13/12/2009 18:19

No for me, 36 weeks.

BeBe2776 · 13/12/2009 20:16

I am 24 weeks and have not even been offered it yet, its never been mentioned and Im under consultant care so they cant be that bothered whether you have it or not. My midwife is pregnant and she is NOT having it!!! that says it all!

DuelingFanjo · 13/12/2009 20:18

no

I'm 29w pg and not having it and won't take DD for it either if she gets offered (20m).
Only know of 2 people who have contracted SF in RL and they are at the other end of the country to me. Don't feel at high risk so not prepared to take a chance on an untested vaccine.
Like bebe776 I am under consultant care and neither consultant, mws or GP has put me under any pressure to have it, in fact none of them have even mentioned it at appointments. I was called by the surgery nurse to say vaccines were available for pregnant women and the clinic times but I said I wasn't wanting it so she just told me to call in and pick up a leaflet for more information.

hazeyjane · 13/12/2009 21:08

yes for me (pregnant), but only when I am in second trimester

dd1 (3.8) already had hers as asthmatic

Emster30 · 13/12/2009 21:42

Yes, had it at 5 wks pg.

Cith · 13/12/2009 21:52

Yes - had it on Friday (18w 3d)after lots of deliberating like yourself. Am asthmatic going on longhaul flight so was worried about picking it up while travelling. Still burst into tears afterwards - relief and fear still I guess!

muddle78 · 13/12/2009 21:59

absolutely no way.

kalo12 · 13/12/2009 22:01

absolutely not.

and not for ds.

Mincepiedermama · 13/12/2009 22:02

No for me (not pregnant but asthmatic) and no for DS (who has diabetes).

Our family has a history of auto immune issues on both sides and I have more reason to fear vaccination than the flu itself.

MarieKL · 13/12/2009 22:06

I'm having it on Tuesday at 32 weeks pregnant. Like others I decided it was the best choice for me (I commute into London every day). I hope whatever you decide it feels right for you. I think deciding is the hardest part!

Hobnobfanatic · 13/12/2009 22:10

I've had the first of my Celvapans - at 18 weeks. Second jab at 22 weeks.
Docs can't refuse it to you - contact your PCT if they are not offering it to you. There was a letter to all PCTs on 19 Nov (I think).

PotPourri · 13/12/2009 22:19

I'm 31 weeks, and have 3 under 5 who won't be having it either.

Think I've had it already as I was really ill and hospitalised, CAT scans, Xrays the works. After effects also. Think in honesty it's advisable to get if pregnant - but given what I have done to my body and my baby I can't bring myself to take an unknown risk by having the vaccine (while realising it might go BADLY wrong if get SF now with my health history)

Flo23 · 13/12/2009 22:25

Yes, had it at 32 wks. 37 wks now.

Yes for DS' when they get called.

Had it, a few weeks back (round 28 weeks I think?).

Restrainedrabbit · 14/12/2009 10:37

Yup I've had it and will get both children done when called, its not an untested vaccine!!! The seasonal one with a different strain.

LittleOneMum · 14/12/2009 12:41

Yes for me - had Celvapan on Friday and am 18 weeks today. No side effects whatsoever so far, not even a sore arm.

For me, the reasons i said yes were:

(1) I have a toddler and am pretty sure he will get it at some point
(2) I am French and the French medical system, which I trust, is giving all pg women Celvapan (they are refusing to give them Pandemrix)
(3) If I got swine flu I'd be so worried, not to mentio the stress I'd cause my family, that it was worth having the jab.
(4) My consultant here in the UK also recommended I have it.

Yes, had it (pandremix) at 25 weeks with no problems (am now 29 weeks). For me, the real risks posed by swine flu outweighed hypothetical problems with the vaccine.

Rob1n · 14/12/2009 13:39

Yes - I had it at 33 weeks. Just a very bruised feeling arm for 2 days afterwards.

Important things that swung it for me were:
*will be in hospital giving birth & most vulnerable at height of flu season.
*baby will pick up antibodies to it.
*virus may get worse
*can't really avoid crowded places but will still be vigilant and observe strict hygiene as I do anyway!
