My partner is dead keen on getting some of these, I'm not so sure.

Has anyone used them? Are they worth it, or are sheets / blankets better?

They are the best thing since sliced bread! Babies wriggle in their sleep and kick off blankets. They are also fab for taking away where ever you put them to sleep feel and smells like home.

AngeG · 24/11/2009 20:09

They are great! I totally agree with oopsandbabycoconut!

oooggs · 24/11/2009 20:09

worth every penny (you can get the 2nd hand on ebay etc... if you want to) using mine on baby no.4 - won't use anything else

smackapacka · 24/11/2009 20:10

Couldn't live without them. I think they must also be safer than sheets/blankets because babies can't get underneath them.

Marvellous invention.

What are you not sure about?

bitofadramaqueen · 24/11/2009 20:11

They're fab. We've got a travel one that can be used in the car too so easy to transfer DS from car seat to cot if we're out a bit later than bed time.

sleepwhenidie · 24/11/2009 20:11

Fantastic things, couldn't imagine having blankets etc after using them for 2 DC's. You can get bargain ones (last season etc, like it makes a difference with baby stuff)in TK Maxx too.

sh77 · 24/11/2009 20:12

TK Maxx selling Grobags cheaper than elsewhere.

MissTFied · 24/11/2009 20:13

Def worth it. Have used them on all three of ours.

Don't forget to sing 'Pop the baby in a bag, in a bag, in a bag' to the tune of 'London Bridge'!

megonthemoon · 24/11/2009 20:23

they're brilliant especially if you end up with a baby like mine who moves around loads in his cot and ends up in all sorts of weird and wonderful positions - we can guarantee he is always warm whereas he'd be waking all night as he kicked sheets off.

also great when you are away as they go to bed in their familiar bedding so settle very easily.

EdgarAllenPoo · 24/11/2009 20:26

fantastic.

i have two super warm ones for cold nights from Tchibo, and a couple from tescos, an one from Grobags.

i heart grobags.

only problem is DD likes to poo in them, so she'll never be placed in one again.

KirstyJC · 24/11/2009 20:28

Yup - definitely worth it! Used them with first baby and now again with second - both real wrigglers, and like megonthemoon says, even when they are upside down on their hands and knees in the cot, they are lovely and warm.

Also they are less likely to get their legs stuck through the bars of the cot!

You can get them second hand - we picked one up from a car boot sale for just £3!

jkklpu · 24/11/2009 20:28

Agree with everyone else, including because they make it easier for the baby to sleep in strange places if you're visiting friends/family: they associate the bag with going to sleep rather than their very own basket/cot. You will NOT regret it.

allthatjazz · 24/11/2009 20:43

am currently pg and wouldnt dream of using anything but these. Even the supermarkets sell them. They need not cost all of your child benefit... Well maybe but i dont think they're a regular at london fashion wk

jennifersofia · 24/11/2009 20:49

Yup, they are great. I would think carefully about how thick they are though - we have one that was a bit expensive that is medium weight, and one that was cheaper that is actually a bit too hot. I think the medium weight is better, because then you can adjust what the baby is wearing in them.

twolittlekings · 24/11/2009 20:55

I only ever buy grobags as you know that the tog rating is what it says on the tin.

DS1 had them until he left his cot at 2 yrs 9 months and they were fab

DS2 is 4 months old and since he has gone into his cot at 3 months he has been in them.

they are expensive so what I have done with friends is circulate them if they have babies at different ages. I am currently using some that I had 1st time round for DS2 plus a couple of others lent to me by a friend who has a baby 9 months older than DS2. She had all my ones when he needed them. Another friend is currently using the ones that I have for 18-36 mpnths which I will get back when relevant.

I use the 0.5 tog if baby is ill
1 tog if room temp is 20 deg
2.5 tog if room very cold (currently our bedroom is 16 deg!)

Best investment.

puredeedbrilliant · 24/11/2009 22:32

They are fantastic! Still use them with my little bot who is nearly 2. Try Tesco and H&M. Just the same as the named brands!

onadietcokebreak · 24/11/2009 22:34

They are fab. Seriously consider the travel version for maximum flexiablity

BertieBotts · 24/11/2009 22:52

I think they are great for babies in cots - I don't like them when co-sleeping though, I prefer to use blankets because as the baby moves around and is closer or further away from you (and your body heat) you can adjust the layers more easily. Once they are in a cot though and moving around (rolling etc) you don't want to be adjusting the blankets all night and it keeps them nice and warm so they don't wake up having kicked the blankets off.

scarymoo · 24/11/2009 22:57

defnitely a must for wriggly babies! Used them with both of my boys, loved them, it's easier than juggling different amounts of blankets and sheets. They gave me peace of mind that they weren't getting too hot/cold.

jellybeans · 24/11/2009 22:59

They are great. Stopped mine climbing out of cot too. Miles better than sheets!!

shelinka · 25/11/2009 07:08

I wouldn't be without them! Dd (aged 2.5) is still in hers and loves it. I also recommend TX Maxx for cheap Grobags, or check on line -you can find them much cheaper than the official bump2three prices.

BaconWheatCrunchies · 25/11/2009 07:17

I used them til my 1st was in a bed (about2.5) and the 2nd has a good selection

CokeFan · 25/11/2009 07:19

Yeah - sleeping bags are great. Dd also moves around a lot in her cot so we wouldn't be without them. She can stand up in her cot and waddle up and down like a weird sack race now though.

There is a minimum weight for some of them (7lb I think) so if the baby was small you might need blankets for a bit. Dd was in a moses basket type thing for a few weeks too and I don't think a sleeping bag would have fit in there - we started using them when she moved into her cotbed.

I'd say have a look at how they fasten - different ones seem to fasten in different ways. We prefer the ones that fasten up the side with zips and then have press studs on each shoulder. Some of the Matalan/TkMaxx/supermarket ones seemed better than Grobag brand. Lengths seem to vary a lot too.

Our house is quite hot at the moment so we're in a 1 tog. They can be quite difficult to find, except in summer.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 25/11/2009 07:21

Another yes here! i have a mix of grobags, mothercare own and one from wilkinsons which dh bought (not sure if that will be ok but no reason why not) for this baby when he is born! Until dd learnt to stand/climb as she fell over too much.

nomorebooze · 25/11/2009 08:31

hi guys! an interesting thread, i have been told by more than 1 person not to use grobags / sleepingbags, due to a link with cot death!!!!!!!!!!!!!, as they are easy for child to wiggle into and suffocate. anyone else heard this or have i been given bad info? this was however enough to put me off
