Grobags / Baby sleeping bags

My partner is dead keen on getting some of these, I'm not so sure.

Has anyone used them? Are they worth it, or are sheets / blankets better?

Nomorebooze - unfortunate that you were told that. Blankets/ duvets are a far higher risk to a baby than a grobag. As someone else has said, bub has to be a minimum weight before you use them.

see link so show that grobag actually work with FSID to reduce incidents of cot death.

Love sleeping bags and ikea are now selling them with tog ratings and they are fab. Used them for ds. They have been used in Europe for much longer and you can even get ones for older toddlers with legs in so they can stand and walk etc, and with long sleeves.

Sleeping bags are fab... DS has been in one since he consistently fought his way out of swaddling. He is a tremendous wriggler (ends up wedged sideways in his cot most nights) but has never wriggled inside his sleeping bag - if you have one that fits properly I really can't understand how that would happen. Definitely recommend getting them - you can get them second-hand on ebay for a snip

my DS loved his grobag, it kept him warm and cozy. he never wriggled down into it as they fasten at the shoulders and he was never able to unfasten these poppers. We had 2 different sized ones aswell as the different tog ratings so he was never in one that was too long for him.
DS would wriggle away around the cot and the grobag would just keep him snug all night.

Cool! Thanks for all the really helpful responses. I've just checked the temperature in the room we're planning on using. Its 23 degrees and the heating's not even on in there and it doesn't get much sun in!

So I guess it will be the 1 tog then, or should it sleep in a nude???

If you think it will still be 23 degrees when the baby arrives then a 1 tog should do. Remember you can just adjust what they wear under, so if they're warm they might only need a long sleeved vest to keep arms covered rather than full babygro.

Look for ones with 2 sets of poppers on the shoulders so you can adjust the size as the baby grows, and if the zip does up from the top you can leave it open a bit at the bottom if you need to let some air in.

Another yes from me too. My DD is still in them at 20 months. We tried a duvet recently but she would just end up lying on top of it and getting me up multiple times in the night cos she was cold. You don't have to worry about weenie ones slipping under the blankets either which is a relief......one less thing to worry about anyway!!

We love them, DD is such a wriggler. We tried without for a while and I got so fed up of waking up in the night to re-cover her that we went back to the bags.

I always tell DH to "bag her up" before bed
