Bicornuate uterus, 5-6 weeks pregnant, mild cramps + spotting, is there any hope?

Have mild cramps and a small amount of pink blood when I wiped.

I think I am currently 5+4, I was referred to gynae by my GP on Wednesday as I had suffered abdominal pains, but more a muscular ache (like after sit ups say) than cramps. Gynae tested by HCG levels and they were apparently 6000 which they thought too high. I am fairly certain of my dates.

Am booked in for a scan anyway at 9.30 Monday so no point doing anything except wait it out over the weekend.

Is there any hope? I'm sure I read somewhere that spotting when combined with a bicornuate uterus rarely has a positive outcome. This is our second pregnancy, I miscarried at 9 weeks two years ago and we have been ttc ever since.

Stay calm. Really horrid for you, but as you said, nothing you can do til scan on Monday.

Terrible sad with this TTC malarky, what will be will be.

Good Luck x

Had exact same thing but further along (probably 8/9 weeks) and was all fine (she's now 18m). Doc said it was something to do with implantation in the womb. So it could be okay. Don't give up hope. It can still be a positive outcome. Thinking of you.

indiechick · 09/10/2009 20:06

Forgot to say, I have bicornuate also. Totally split down the middle. I understand what you're going through.

ClaireDeLoon · 09/10/2009 20:10

Thank you for your posts, it's just so hard. Even knowing from the start there is a higher risk it is still devastating when you think it's going wrong.

It is hard, have you got some good support in real life? Hang in there though, you could be pleasantly suprised on Mon.

hello claire I found out at my 12 week scan that I also have a heart-shaped womb (bi-cornate) the sonographer said that it shouldn't cause too many problems early on but could cause complications later on.......I also had bleeding from about 6-7 weeks to 9-10 weeks, had 6 scans and all is still ok......am now 15 weeks and going strong.....good luck for Monday

Also should add that I had a MMC in May at 6.5 weeks....I asked if my womb had anything to do with that and she said it was unlikely.....hope this helps you little bit

ClaireDeLoon · 09/10/2009 20:37

indie DP is stuck in traffic but should be home soon, he keeps calling though

hoops thank you, yours and indies stories have cheered me a little

Do you think I need to rest all weekend? It's just if it is nice and I feel OK I would rather get out and about rather than sit at home worrying. Just maybe have a drive somewhere nice if its nice weather.

hoops997 · 09/10/2009 20:42

claire how heavy is your pink blood? I was told to rest which I found really boring and I was beside myself with worry, going for a drive should be ok if you don't drive! Try to take your mind of things and listen to your body, I knew in my heart something was wrong last time........try to think positive

indiechick · 09/10/2009 20:47

I was told to rest also, but was pretty difficult with a 3 year old to look after. See how you feel and how heavy spotting is. A drive's not really going to do any harm, and pub lunch would probably do you the world of good.

ClaireDeLoon · 09/10/2009 20:47

It's not all that heavy. And like I say its pink, last mc started with brown spotting.

How you doing today Claire? Hoping all is okay.

ClaireDeLoon · 11/10/2009 18:04

I'm OK thanks just time is dragging until tomorrow. Still the same slight smear of pink when I wipe but no more cramping. Don;t know what to think/expect really.

I'm about 6 weeks tomorrow which is on the cusp of being too early for a heartbeat I think? But them my hcg levels were high so I just don't know what to expect.

This happened to a friend of mine who had heavy bleeding - went for a scan but saw a sac no heartbeat but quite early days (also found out about the bicornuate uterus at that scan) was told to wait a bit longer and come back to reasses and lo and behold 2 weeks later despite continued bleeding found out she was expecting identical twins! They are 4.5yrs old now.
I hope your story has a happy ending - good luck.

ClaireDeLoon · 11/10/2009 18:31

OMG I am not sure I want twins! Thanks beautifulgirls that's a nice story.

I'm back from my scan, they said I look to be 5 weeks they can see the yolk sac but no fetal pole but then so early on they say they wouldn't expect to see much anyway. I think I'm just under 6 weeks. They have booked me to go back in 3 weeks.

It's implanted in the right horn of my uterus which they say is fine.

that sounds really promising, congratulations

indiechick · 12/10/2009 20:03

Oh that's great news, I've been thinking about you today but can't mumsnet from work. That sounds really promising. Glad to hear it's positive. Keep us updated how you get on. You must be feeling a bit more relieved.

ClaireDeLoon · 12/10/2009 22:04

Heavier bleeding tonight along with more cramping I suspect that is it.

Comma2 · 12/10/2009 22:05

That sounds great! My doctor said a yolk sac was really good as a sign for a strong pregnancy.

Oh good luck to you! I am so happy for you!

beanieb · 12/10/2009 22:09

Claire, I am sorry to hear this news. I hope things go ok, really wish I could say something more helpful than this but I really am keeping fingers crossed for you.

ClaireDeLoon · 12/10/2009 22:22

Thanks Beanie. Hope you're OK too.

I think we'll just go straight down to gynae tomorrow - I know no point doing another scan the day after an inconclusive one but they can see if my hcg levels have gone up or down since last week and maybe an internal examination will tell them something.

OP posts:
Comma2 · 13/10/2009 01:43

Oh no, crossed messages.

Nononono!! I have all my fingers crossed for you!

ClaireDeLoon · 13/10/2009 07:56

Thanks Comma, don't worry about the cross posts. Hope you're ok too. Everything going well?

ClaireDeLoon · 13/10/2009 19:07

HCG levels 31,600 (up from 6000 last week) so doctor happy that things are OK. Scan is two weeks on Friday. Just sit tight now and wait for that and hope no more bleeding or cramps. Last nights bleeding tailed off to light brown blood that has virtually gone now.

Hello to all you ladies with a Bicornuate Uterus. I have a BU which is 'complete' in other words I have a septum splitting my uterus completely in half.

I was worried sick during my pregnancy after reading on forums about pre term labour etc and in the end I carried my now 3 year old son until 37.5 weeks,He was in the right horn of my uterus and his legs partially in the left. I was very lopsided he was transverse breech and arrived with no complications by elective caesarean they pulled him out by his legs!

I bled on and off for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy and lost a huge blood clot from the vagina at about 11 weeks ... I was petrified after having 2 previous miscarriages that I had also lost again but a scan confirmed a strong heartbeat.

I had a very healthy diet during my pregnancy which is really important.

Just wanted to say there is hope for ladies with BU even complete BU's. My uterus is also retroverted!

My mom had a BU (in the days before scans so we could not compare) She had myself and my brother, he was natural delivery and a section with me.

I am TTC again with my husband but had no luck so far.

Good luck ladies
