Hi, im new to this site and im worried about my baby boy. I was hospitalized for 4 days 2 weeks ago b/c of bleeding and cramping. My placenta had detached a tiny bit from my uterus and is sitting near my cervix. That following tuesday morning around 5am my water broke(membranes ruptured) and i figured it was the bleeding. Also the fluid wasnt clear due to the bleeding at the time either. When i went to the dr. the ultrasound confirmed it. I had no amniotic fluid around the baby, but that week before I did. Me and my fiance' decided to continue with the pregnancy with the very poor prognosis. I was terrified at first but prayer has truly helped me. It has been 1 week since my membranes ruptured. Im barely bleeding and im not cramping at all. I was prescribed antibiotics and have to check my temperature 2x daily. Has anyone experienced this before or know someone who has???

Great news that things are looking ok. 10 weeks is a v long time to be in hospital but it's all in a very good cause! Wonder if they will have internet access anywhere in the hospital so you can keep giving us updates! Very best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy

I had 8 weeks in hospital with PROM. DS was fine. It is dull, dull, dull, but the best place to be. Make sure you have lots of books / music & movies for iPOD. And use your mobile, not patientline.

Best of luck. Prayers on their way.

landanmom · 07/07/2009 00:41

Thanks so much you guys, and while im there i will continue to post.I will have my Blackberry, lol. In just a few more weeks I will be off to the big house. My appt went well again today and things are looking even better for us now. I still havent gained a pound, Im like 169 lbs.I know this is a bit off the topic but where are you guys from? I live in Macon, Georgia(USA). I asked because spelling of "labour" caught my eye a few weeks ago and i have been reading other posts and many speak of the same hospital. Oh and also Ive noticed United Kingdom ads I believe.. Wow how interesting is that.

Hi landanmom - aha, that explains the timing of your posts. Well, I can only speak for myself but I'm in North London (UK). Mumsnet is a UK site and I suspect (but don't know) that quite a high number of the site users are from London because the same hospitals do come up fairly regularly. But anyway, I've also seen plenty of people posting from overseas too and it's very nice to have you with us, so to speak. Look forward to seeing more of your updates.

landanmom · 07/07/2009 19:13

itsalwaysthequietones-how cool is that. Wow you're in North London! Here, it is 2:10pm in the afternoon, lol. Its just amazing to be able to interact with different women around the world. No matter the location, WE all have something in common. So am i posting extremely late in the night or super early in the morning?? Anywho, for the next 2 weeks I will be getting my baby things together. While in the hospital, my fiance' and family/friends will do the rest. I just feel rushed you know. So i will just grab a couple of things on my part and finish adding after im released from the hospital.

I know, its crazy! Actually, this time your post was not particularly late, 7.15pm (the UK time is posted next to your name and the date) but usually it's around the midnight, 1am mark. Enjoy the next two weeks of preparation and after that, you can do online window shopping and send all your friends and loved-ones out on missions to collect any extra necessaries.

Worzsel · 08/07/2009 15:37

Oh My.. how have i missed this

I'm a prom mum too, 30 weeks with DD, 22 weeks with DS..they are both fine !

Have you found www.kanalen.org/prom/ any use ?

There are loads of stories on there

landanmom · 09/07/2009 01:04

Worzsel- thanks for the website. As soon as i log off im heading straight there, lol. How did you cope mentally with prom. Its been almost a month now since my prom and my baby is doing just fine. Any advice from your experiences?

landanmom · 09/07/2009 01:19

itsalwaysthequiteones- My doctor said it is ok for me to work and im happy. He said that its not manditory that i go in at 24wks but it would be a good idea. I want to go back to work for about 2months. We really need the money you know. Im a dental hygienist so im sitting all day anyway, just like im doing now. My fiance' was laid off about 2 1/2 months ago and things are kind of tough right now. So the money is much needed. He had an interview today with this new job and things went well. They should here something around next week. We both feel confident about that job. I was laid off 1 wk 1/2 before i was admitted into the hospital. So yeah, its pretty hard. I just want to work for a short period of time you know, to catch some bills and to put away for the baby.

I'll be honest with you i found the whole experience hideous. We were given a very poor prognosis when my water first went and it broke my heart, i found it incredibly hard to get out of the negative mindset, I wish in a way that our consultant had given us a bit of hope to start with and i'd have clung to that instead of expecting the worse, it ruined my pregnancy and i'm still struggling with it now.

I only managed to sort my head out a bit when i spoke to the scbu staff told me about other babies who had been in the same situation as ours and were fine, the kanelan website helped a lot and the ladies on here were amazing, the support i had was brilliant.

You are going though such a lonely time, very few people will 'get it' as prom at such an early gestation without immediate labour is really rare !

My Ds is great now, hew arrived at 27 weeks and is 28 weeks and still really small but fighting fit and absolutly perfect.. we are proof that these things can be ok, you will be ok too. Try and make the most of it, enjoy your pregnancy and look to the future.

itsalwaysthequietones · 09/07/2009 15:09

Worzsel - sorry to hear you had such a hard time of it but fantastic news about your DS.

Landanmom - sorry you've got extra worries to cope with at a time like this. Wish you the very best of luck with putting away some money - and take it easy at work as far as poss.

LadyOfWaffle · 09/07/2009 15:24

No adivce sorry but hope everything goes well x

landanmom · 09/07/2009 19:09

Worzsel- the support that i have been recieving from you guys have helped alot. The websites also gave me a sense of hope. Im staying positive and keeping faith in God. Im so glad that your baby is fine so far, everything will be alright. Its just so hard bc all i wanted was a normal happy pregnancy. I never wouldve thought that this could happen! And i agree that it takes away from the whole pregnancy experience. Im afraid to really buy little things bc its not guaranteed he will make it you know. I feel in my heart that he will make it though. Its just so confussing and frustrating.

Worzsel · 09/07/2009 21:06

It is, for want of a better word, shit. horribly cruel and unfair too, it's like being in limbo isn't it, not knowing either way.

I felt the same about buying things and the day i was discharged from hospital following my prom i shut the door on the half decorated nursery and didn't dare open it again

Are you managing to eat ok ? I noticed that you said you'd not put on any weight. I was the same, i weighed less the day after george was born than i had before i got pregnant. Its wrong really but i just couldnt eat with the stress of it all... it's important though, you need to eat.. eat eat eat . The other thing is drinking, are you drinking lots ? The Dr told me it would make no difference but i found that if i drank a lot then i leaked a lot of fluid and i figured that that could only be a good thing.

I will be thinking of you a lot, i will say a prayer for you too

landanmom · 10/07/2009 22:15

I have been eating pretty good. But since ive got pregnant i dont eat as much. I use to eat like a grown man,lol but now im eating maybe half of that. Dont get me wrong, there are some days where i eat like a beast

Silly me, I forgot to let you ladies know how my appt went this morning. Things are great! My fluid level is still 3cm. My baby boy appears to be healthy and he is 10in long and weighs 10oz. He's almost the length of a ruler!!! Im so excited. They say he is just a bit small but its still ok. They will continue to watch. I will be induced at 34wks so we will have a premie. Im going in at 28wks though. And he has been very active too. Our main concern is the lung development. We wont know how they will fuction or IF they will fucntion after birth. So thats still 50/50

OP posts:
daisy99divine · 11/07/2009 01:40

Hi Landanmom I have only just seen you and wanted to wish you lots of luck - glad your appointment went well this morning, but that is worrying about the lungs. I agree with you though, the talking and sending strong loving vibes is vital. Take care and have a good weekend

landanmom · 14/07/2009 01:17

I had a scare yesterday morning. I woke up and i seen that i have been spotting while i was asleep. I called my dr and i was admitted into the hospital. All the tess and ultrasounds came back normal and i was relieved. The cause was my placenta again. It sits really close to my cervix. Anywho, i was released this morning and im doing just fine. 3 more weeks to go before im in the hospital for 10weeks, AHHH!!!! LOL.

OP posts:
itsalwaysthequietones · 14/07/2009 21:48

hi landanmom - sorry about the scare, must have been a horrible shock. Glad all is ok. Yay for your baby boy being almost the length of a ruler too!!

Has the Dr talked about steroid injections to help lung development. A good friend of mine had her twins at 33 weeks due to pre-eclampsia and had steriod injections a few days before. The girl's lungs were fine, the little boy still needed a little help with breathing when he was born but is now a boisterous 22-month-old (and v tall for his age!)

landanmom · 16/07/2009 17:32

Yes my doctor talked about hte steriod shots. I will start those when im 24wks, so in 2 more weeks basically. My doctor appt went well today and im happy. I really hope those shots will help strengthen his lungs.

Just caught this post and wanted to wish you luck and send good thoughts! My PROM baby is now 2.7 and running about like a typical toddler!

Sounds like you're having superb care, I didn't to begin with - no one believed me I was sent home at 24 weeks - told I was a silly woman and lots of pregnant ladies leak Luckily I saw sense and went back!

I was monitored in hospital to begin with (after the steroid injection) and then went in every 2nd day to be checked and had weekly checks on the fluid levels which varied enormously. I also took temperature twice a day.

I got to 33wks 4 days before I contracted an infection, spotted by an eagle-eyed midwife as my towel and sorted of turned yellowy/green (sorry if TMI!)

I had a csection - all was fine. We spent a couple of weeks in special care - no real problems - just time for DD to get some fat on her!

I'm sure your staying postive, being well informed and getting the right care will get you through it safely x

ladylush · 19/07/2009 00:34

landanmom - glad all is going well for you I had my baby on Monday. She was 30+5 and weighed 3lb 10oz. She is perfect - just absolutely tiny. She is doing really well and I am busy all hours of the day expressing milk for her. The Neonatal Unit is like another world and it feels surreal tbh. Even though she is doing really well I am tearful much of the time because we are apart much of the day but I have to stay positive because one day she will be coming home with us

GeorgeTheSlitheen · 19/07/2009 10:55

Massive congratulations LL ! Sounds like yOur little girl is doing great. 3lb11 is a good size too !

I've been wondering where how you were getting on, did you have st stay in for a while ?

What have you called her ?

I was worzsel btw, I've just changed my name.

LM, how are you now ? X

landanmom · 20/07/2009 22:18

ladylush congrats on your little one!!! How exciting is that? Im glad that you guys are doing just fine :-) I will be admitted Aug 3rd for my hospital stay until i have him. Im nervous a little bit. I just hope that everything will be just fine.

jeanjeannie, thanks for sharing your experience. I am very hopeful. The plan is to deliver around 33 or 34wks since im so high risk now. Any suggestions on how to cope with the long hospital stay?
