Hi ladies,

Hope you don't mind if I join this thread too? I've just been reading through some of the entries and think it is wonderful how supportive you all are of each other.

I had a mc at 9wks4, after seeing a strong heartbeat at 8 weeks. It was my first pregnancy and I was devastated. I had also told a lot of friends/family and stupidly felt really stupid and vulnerable about everyone knowing about this (although they have been amazing).

Anyhoo, 3 months later and I'm pregnant again and a total mess! I've had two scans so far, one because I had really bad cramps and that showed a sac, but no embryo. But I had a scan two days ago which showed it is there and has a heartbeat! I should technically be 8 and a bit weeks but they have dated me as 7 weeks so I'm due around the same time as Carrie2010!

I am so so terrfied of losing this one. I've got slightly loopy today in particular. I noted from my ovulator kit that I ovulated really late in my cycle: days 19 and 20 of my 31 day cycle. I've read somewhere that this can mean I have a luteal phase defect, which may be caused by low progesterone. As a result, I've spoken to my GP and she is now going to prescribe progesterone supplements to me although she thinks there is no evidence to suggest it will help at all, but it won't harm. Am I going over the top?? I just hate the way doctors tell me not to worry and just relax, until I've had 2 or more mcs?!! I want to do everything I can to avoid that! Plus, my MS has disapeared today which is also making me panic... Sorry for the rambling message. I'm not telling friends as want to wait until 12 weeks so woudl be so so grateful for any advice/support. Thanks so much and best wishes to all

bunnyinheadlights · 30/07/2009 20:29

just popping in (as i've dropped off the face of the earth here on MN since arrival of dd2 - it's hard enough to get a shower in RL much less log on!) to say hi to lola. i remember our mc and pg stories have been very similar and also remember that you are due v. soon in the summer!! 36 weeks! i can't believe it! v. excited and v. v. pleased for you. will be checking in to hear about your birth story in due course, but wanted to send you a big hug for the last month of your pg!

also read your birth story herby congrats on arrival of samuel. it did bring a lump to my throat. i hope you are now enjoying him fully! what a precious gift!

does anyone know if any one started a post natal knicker checkers thread for graduates of this thread?

cornflakegirl · 30/07/2009 23:20

TS - welcome to the thread - congratulations on your pregnancy and on seeing the heartbeat!

Try not to worry about the MS - I'm sure you've seen on here that symptoms are a very unreliable indicator. If you want to understand more about the possible causes of miscarriage, then I recommend Prof Lesley Regan's book.

Here's hoping that you have a long stay on this thread, and that the wait until 12 weeks isn't too anxious for you.

scarlotti · 31/07/2009 15:26

Hello all

Just popping in to say a quick hello to everyone really and welcome to TS.

TS - hope your stay here is a long and happy one. We did the same thing with our 2nd m/c, had got to 10 weeks and thought we were safe to tell, then lost baby a few days later. It does mean you worry constantly for the first 12 weeks (and beyond!) the next time, but I'm now 26 weeks and all is well so hang in there!

Hope all you ladies on the home stretch are all still feeling well and looking forward to some relaxing mat leave before babies arrive

sydneysuze · 31/07/2009 18:35

Happy Friday All, esp to you Ash on Mat Leave you lucky thing!

I can't wait to join you - only 2 weeks more for me, yippee! Can't believe they rushed your position scan so much - did you at least get a good look / picture?? Hope appt today was ok - did it work to move the baby?

Lola it's lovely to have you back . Sorry to hear you were worried about movement - maybe you read I had similar a couple of weeks ago? Glad it all worked out and you got another sneak peek

Welcome back Ozbride (was on the phone to friends in Byron Bay only this morning, sigh....) and welcome to TS. Feel free to rant away to us, we all know the lonely paranoia of early PG after MC.

Bunny I think the post-natal knicker checkers is a great idea for a thread, but don't know if anyone has done one - maybe Crunch?.......

Am in pram-deciding hell at the mo - only 6 weeks to EDD and still not got one .... need a 3-wheeler and was set on Out N About Nipper until I saw that the back support is not really firm enough for a newborn....

Any ideas ladies?????

Tamlin · 31/07/2009 19:17

Due date for the one we lost today, and DH is, of course, cheerily oblivious. In my next life, I want to come back as a bloke. It's not that I've spent all day moping about it and writing bad angel-baby poetry, but you know, at least I REMEMBERED.

scarlotti · 31/07/2009 21:42

Ah Tamlin sorry to hear that. If it's any consolation I had the same thing a few weeks back on our due date. DH did ask if I was ok and apologised for not realising, once I'd emailed him to say what day it was

Hope you feel you've marked the day in the way you wanted. Thinking of you.

cornflakegirl · 31/07/2009 23:28

Ash - how did the ECV go?

Tamlin - think I must be a bloke! I deliberately didn't remember any of my due dates. The closest I got was that my second miscarriage would have been due at roughly the same time as a prominent poster on here, so seeing her birth announcement was quite hard.

Hope you were okay today.

I have only one more week left at work, and am definitely in wind-down mode. Am slightly wondering whether I should be concerned that I haven't had any sort of birth plan discussion with the midwife. I wouldn't want a homebirth, and I'm not eligible for the MLU because I'm under a consultant, but it would have been nice if my midwife had at least said "Let's discuss your options. You don't have any."

scarlotti · 01/08/2009 07:46

cornflake nope, think you're definitely a laydee - give away was the deliberate-ness of you forgetting

V of you on the wind down to mat leave, I'd love to finish now but have 10 more weeks to go. Don't need to leave yet in terms of discomfort or anything, just being lazy

I'm still at the infrequency I've seen my mw as it's not my first. Am 27 weeks now and have only seen her twice! I seem to just go in for blood tests, so no tea and sympathy there!

cornflakegirl · 01/08/2009 17:14

scarlotti - I lost my work motivation quite early on. Am trying to recover it so I don't leave too much of a mess for my colleagues. Although I figure I'll get blamed for everything for a few months anyway, so don't feel too guilty.

DH picked up our free Huggies newborn nappies today. Still haven't packed an actual bag, but I think I have everything on the list now!

scarlotti · 03/08/2009 15:26

cornflake think my motivation took a nose dive once that blue line appeared!!

Trying to keep a bit of momentum going as do have some deadlines looming - that normally kicks me into doing stuff.

Nursery has a pay dispute with it's staff so none of them turned up for work today DH and I have juggled the day between us working from home in sections.
Praying that it's all sorted for tomorrow as we're both needed in the office.

Joys of living hundreds of miles from family

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 03/08/2009 15:35

Hello everybody!

Haven't been online for ages and now you're all so huge and pregnant!

And Herb has created a whole new person!

I've missed you all, I can't believe Pol is 3 months this weekend! She is still so lovely. An incredibly smiley baby, she only cries when she's hungry and is almost sleeping through the night. Utterly gorgeous.

Things with H went through a much worse patch (where I woke up one morning to a letter saying it's over and immediately packed up the kids and drove away), an inbetween patch (where he followed and begged me to give him another chance), and now a vagualy positive patch (where we are 'dating' and I am spending the Summer in Wales so we only see each other at weekends).

I'm a glutton for punishment, aren't I?

scarlotti, ashleigh, sydney, cornflake, tamlin, lola, lal, and all the other oldies and newbies how are you all?

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 03/08/2009 15:45

And just for bunny HERE's a postnatal group for all us graduates if you fancy it: somewhere we can feel less guilty about how seldom we post now

scarlotti · 03/08/2009 15:55

Hellooooo Crunch!!!

Lovely to hear from you and great news that Polly is doing so well. Sounds like you and H are on the right track - either the dating will allow you to get to know each other again and work through your problems, or it will allow you to part as amicably as possible (if that's where it heads) knowing you've done all you can.

And no better place to spend a summer in my opinion How is Aber? Sunny and glorious I hope.

Am good here. The black hole I was living in for the first 12 weeks has long gone and so DH and I are back on firm ground and looking forward to our little boy's arrival. Am 27 weeks now, so starting to get to the end of the comfortable spell and moving into not being able to buckle up my shoes!!
Oh, and trying to convince DH that Ioan would be the perfect name for our son - DS has a Scottish name so I get a Welsh one this time, but I'm told it has to be pronouncable by non-Welsh people!!
It means 'gift from God' which I thought was quite apt considering the journey it's taken.

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 03/08/2009 16:05

scarlotti abit short of sun, but still having a lovely time

Ioan is lovely, I really like Gwion or Gwydion too. Threaten him with lots of CHs and LLs in a name until you get your own way! So pleased you're back on track with dh, it's tough enough dealing with pregnancy, without adding in marital worries.

Sorry to rub it in but I had no idea how much I missed my feet until I could reach them again!

cornflakegirl · 03/08/2009 16:24

Crunch! Good to see you! So glad that Polly is still lovely. And glad that things with H are moving in a positive direction.

Scarlotti - deadlines are the only way!
How does one pronounce Ioan? (My first guess would be Joan, but I'm assuming that's wrong!)

I know exactly how much I miss my feet! The worst thing at the moment is that my stretch marks are hurting, so if I try to bend too far forwards, I get shooting pains in addition to the discomfort. Fortunately DH is very good about tying my trainers for me

scarlotti · 03/08/2009 16:50

Ioan is pronounced yo-ann. There is a famous actor now with the name (funnily enough I know him from school) he played Hornblower and was in 102 dalmations amongst other things. It's Welsh for John I think.

cornflake sorry to hear your stretchmarks are hurting, hope they're not too sore. Leg cramps are my current woe - oh, and constipation
Who says pregnancy is glamorous?!!

YouKnowNothingoftheCrunch · 03/08/2009 16:55

cornflake I offer complete sympathy for all pregnancy-related aches and pains. I am so glad to be the other side of it. It may not be much of a consollation, but you really do forget all the pains so quickly afterwards. I keep looking back at how physically crippled I was by SPD (oh and the constipation, piles, nausea, cramp, and so on ad infinitum) and it seems a lifetime ago already. It makes me want to skip about

Tamlin · 03/08/2009 17:00

Scarlotti, I love that actor, he's very swoony. I honestly don't worry too much about pronunciation issues for my children's names, I figure they'll probably go to school with little Sirajs and Laszlos so everyone will wind up spelling their names out! I quite like Iestyn, but have absolutely no chance of talking DH into it. What about Gwyn..? Rhodri? Knew a very fit Rhodri at school.

Crunch, that sounds like a lot to deal with while in the throes of sleep deprivation with a little one - I hope Wales is at least proving restful for you! Lovely to hear that Polly is prospering.

TS, fingers are crossed for you - hang in there...

DS is prowling around me in a very meaningful way, occasionally pausing to chew on my jeans and whine 'Meeeeee...' I take it this means it's dinner time!

scarlotti · 03/08/2009 17:21

Tamlin yeah, I used to fancy the pants off him at school but was too shy to make any kind of move. Now I just dream about the life I might have had ... His Dad was our deputy head and he was gorgeous!!
I like Iestyn too but DH has already vetoed that one, along with Rhodri!

pmsl at your DS description.

blondieminx · 03/08/2009 17:34

Evening all!

Just a quick hi from me as am about to leave work - home PC out of action at the moemnt due to BT again

Welsh names obviously in vogue on this thread - me and DH were discussing Dylan at the weekend! Ioan is a really lovely name and cos of the actor I'd think most people'd be able to cope with it.

Crunch I hope things continue in a positive way with DH. Polly sounds a very lovely baby

Hi to all the newbies - hope you are hanging in there ok.

Cornflake and Scarlotti yep not much motivation here either

And a big hi to everyone else - hope all is well with all the bumps!

sydneysuze · 04/08/2009 18:13

Crunch! How fab to see you! And I'm really glad to see you've started the Nappy Checkers thread! Fingers crossed I'll be over there myself in (gulp) six weeks!!!!

Blondieminx are you fully recovered from the SF now? I've been off work since Monday with what I thought was a normal cold, but am now starting to feel quite ropey - don't think I've got a temp though..... am trying not to panic about this

Still feeling movements though and just taking it easy.

from sick-bed to everyone else

sydneysuze · 04/08/2009 18:17

PS Cornflake was grumbling to my DH this morning about how you guys thought I was a bit of a hippy. 'How ridiculous' I was in the middle of saying, only to have him crack up laughing and point out that at that very moment I was:

a) wearing organic trackie bums
b) making home-made lentil soup using home grown herbs ......

I think the phrase is 'Know thyself......' isn't it????

scarlotti · 04/08/2009 20:04

suze making soup with lentils is fine ... now if you start weaving them we'll get worried
Hope you feel better soon, fwiw my gp said if you get SF you'll know as you'll feel so dreadful.

blondie lovely to hear all is well with you. Funnily enough, Dylan is another of our options too. Great minds eh?!

cornflakegirl · 05/08/2009 10:59

suze - I don't think that being more of a hippy than an accountant and an IT geek (no offence intended, scarlotti) is a particular slur! Although home-made lentil soup does take it up a notch.

(I used to make my own hummus, from dried chick peas, when I was on mat leave last time. Not sure why!)

Am starting to go into worry phase again now - whether the baby is moving enough, what if it all goes wrong at the end... Probably should do some actual work to give my brain something else to focus on!
