New one! Thought I would make my mark!

alana39 · 17/07/2009 21:20

What a beautiful way to remember him Syd.

Scarlotti it's not mad at all. Around what would have been my due date someone said to me it must be much easier now that I was pregnant again. If only it were that simple - yes it is lovely to be pregnant again, but you still suffered a loss and are entitled to feel however you feel about both babies.

Jubato · 18/07/2009 09:04

Hello Ladies!

I just wanted to say Hi and hope to join you all. We had an m/c 8 months ago despite seeing a heartbeat at 6 weeks. I'm currently 9+2, I'm just neurotic about symptoms and knicker-checking.

Have my 9 week reassurance scan today and I'm freaking out.

Anyways, hopefully all will be OK and I look forward to getting to know you all better!

cece · 18/07/2009 10:54

herb

just popped in to see how things hadgone. just read your birth story! OMG I am so glad things were OK in the end. Congratulations on the arrival of Samuel.

I am sat here with Tom asleep on my shoulder - I am really enjoying having him. He is such a lovely easy baby and so cuddly. I feel so lucky to have him.

Hello to all of you ladies. You should get some great support here

blondieminx · 18/07/2009 18:19

Hi....and of course hello to all the new mummies!

Welcome along Carrie and Jubato - I hope your stays on this thread are long and happy ones

SydneySuze welcome back! I've just signed up for NCT classes starting in November... if a knitted breast is passed round I shall think of you .

Scarlotti thinking of you... do what feels right for you about marking the anniversary.

Ashleighbee Roll on the 31st then eh so you can start your lovely maternity leave! When the time comes next year with any luck the economy will be in better shape and you'll find a new job quite easily. I'm sure things will work out.

Tamlin that's interesting about cloth nappy babies being trained quicker.

Well not much nesting going on over here at the moment - I have been in bed since Wednesday with suspected swine flu . I couldn't believe it as I've been SO careful about using santizer hand gel while out and about, and washing my hands loads. Grr. It started off feeling like the worst morning sickness so far, with a headache. Then developed aches, fainty feeling, sore throat and sneezing - it came on so quick. Have been prescribed Relenza plus paracetamol and plenty of rest... Still weeing for England so assume Bump is doing ok but am going to insist on another scan when I'm back on my feet. Was worried about taking the Relenza but midwife advised to definitely take it as it shortens the time you're ill... God I hope everything is ok.

Hope everyone's doing rather more healthily than me....

scarlotti · 18/07/2009 18:55

Hi All

Thanks for the lovely messages. Spent yesterday evening having a nice quiet one with DH - added the one babygro I'd bought for my previous little one to the things we've bought for this one. It's nice to be able to remember him/her but sad too.

Blondie hope you're doing ok. You poor thing, will it be confirmed whether it's swine flu or do you just rest?

I've been ill since last night. Spent a lot of the night being a bit ill and dreadful sickness and heartburn. Today feel rubbish with headache and nausea. Am a bit worried it's swine flu but then also think maybe I'm just being paranoid?

Should I ring someone I wonder?

blondieminx · 18/07/2009 20:03

Hi Scarlotti.... I did ask would I be swabbed for it to be confirmed but apparently they're not doing that anymore unless you're so bad you get hospitalised - as I had 5 of a possible 8 symptoms they just prescribed me the relenza and said to rest, take paracetamol and loads of fluids.

I only rang cos I had that achey feeling you get with flu... up until then 'd thought it was jsut the worst morning sickness I'd had so far

I rang the swine flu line on the front of that leaflet we've all had through the door, and that says after checking your symptoms to ring the GP, which I did. Receptionist there then said that I was to ring the co-ordination centre for our town instead, so be prepared for a bit of faffing about... Might be worth ringing your midwife in the first instance? Hope you feel better soon!

scarlotti · 18/07/2009 20:46

Am not sure what to do really, not one to bother people or make a fuss.
Definitely have something though, but could easily be a bug. Think I'll see how I feel tomorrow and take it from there.

Are you feeling any better now? Hope so

BellasYummyMummy · 19/07/2009 13:59

hi ladies, i wonder if i can join your thread? i have been on the due march 2010 thread but have been trying to stay away from the internet as i tend to get myself all worked up reading about everyone's symptoms that i dont have!! but glad to have found a thread that seems as anxious as me!!

this is my 4th pregnancy, 2 miscarriages (one mmc at 12 weeks, the other at 7+3w), i have a beautiful DD who is nearly 14 months, and Im 6+6w gone. I have been very apprehensive about this pregnancy due to past history, and have had cramping and some spotting. we went for a scan on tuesday and she said the baby had a very strong heart beat and everything looked as it should. Havent had anymore spotting since, but still getting cramps on/off which is making me so paranoid. I hope someone can put my fears to rest. I know seeing the HB should comfort me but i saw a HB at 8weeks with my first pregnancy, and we lost the baby a week later but didnt find out til 12 weeks. My last pregnancy saw the HB at 7 weeks but were told at the time it was weak and to expect to lose it. Im trying to tell myself that she said it was strong and on that basis i have no reason to think its going to happen again. Its just so hard to relax. On top of that I dont have much morning sickness (though I didnt really with DD), i get it occasionally and its normally quite mild. Apart from that I;ve been exhausted but thats all really.

Sorry for such a long post, especially as its my first and you all dont know me!!

oh- had a quick read of the swine flu posts, glad im not the only one concerned! though at the end of the day its just another flu and i think its been blown out of proportion by the media...

BellasYummyMummy · 19/07/2009 14:04

just read your post herby and brought a tear to my eye. Glad to hear your little man has arrive safely into this world.

scarlotti · 19/07/2009 14:48

BellasYummyMummy welcome to the thread, this is certainly the right place to be to air any fears or concerns.

This is my 3rd dc on the way, after having 2 m/c between dc2 and this one. With this one I had spotting at 6+3 but went for a scan and saw a strong heartbeat. Am now about 24 weeks so hang on in there

BellasYummyMummy · 19/07/2009 17:14

thanks scarlotti, i keep telling myself things wil be fine this time round, its just the cramping i get then all reason just goes out the window! it's more of a discomfort than painful, and itsnt all the time but is quite frequent and has been the last week. Im wondering if because it's not my first, things are moving around/ stretching/pulling a lot easier. I dunno, just trying to talk some sense into myself.

BellasYummyMummy · 19/07/2009 17:15

when is everyone due btw? is there a list?

scarlotti · 19/07/2009 20:03

Bellas cramping is perfectly normal so try not to worry - easier said than done i know There is a list, although it might be a few pages back now.
Have a scroll, then paste it in with your details on when you feel happy to add yourself.

alana39 · 20/07/2009 10:20

Hi Bellas welcome to the thread. I had quite a lot of mild cramping around 6-8 weeks, then again at 12-15 (that time with some spotting, which eventually just stopped and there was no obvious cause on the 2 scans I happened to have during that time), so I think if you're not bleeding and it's not getting more painful then it probably is just stretching etc. It's just really hard not to worry about it when you're already so anxious, I know. And completely agree with you about the swine flu stuff. I am generally not one to panic about this kind of stuff because I'm not sure what you can do about it anyway, but even I was momentarily worried when I saw a headline saying we might be prevented from going abroad (going on long awaited holiday to France on Friday) until I realised it was in the Express so was probably rubbish anyway

Scarlotti and Blondie how are you feeling?

cornflakegirl · 20/07/2009 11:06

Syd - I don't have a tumble dryer, mainly used a folding airer to dry my nappies. So it's perfectly doable (tbh, using a dryer probably negates the eco-benefits anyway). But it really depends how you feel about having your house strewn with drying nappies all the time. You might want to look into microfibre nappies, as they're pretty dry when they come out the machine (although still take a while to become bone dry).

(I think Ash and I are racing for the next spot - my due date is earlier, but I don't trust the dating scan.)

scarlotti - glad you found a way to mark the anniversary. Hope you're feeling better and that the symptoms weren't SF?

Jubato - hope your scan went okay?

blondie - big sympathy for being struck down with lurgy - get well soon!

Bella - welcome to the thread - hope everything goes really well for you this time. I had three miscarriages before my current pregnancy, no spotting or anything with this one, and I still worried about everything for the whole first trimester. 'Tis the nature of the beast, but as scarlotti said, this is a great place to air your worries with people who understand.

No news here really. My hips and pelvis are falling apart, my internal organs are compressed into a space the size of a matchbox, and my idea of a really good weekend is being able to spend most of it asleep. I'm such an ungrateful cow!

cornflakegirl · 20/07/2009 11:13

scarlotti · 20/07/2009 12:25

Ah, nice to see the list again!
Looks like there's 3 of you then in the August race! How exciting.

Thanks for all the nice posts. I'm still feeling a little rough but my doc reckons it's just a bug so am less worried now. Apparently he looks for a temp of around 40 and feeling like you can't stand up whilst the kettle boils as an indication of how awful you feel with the swine flu. Hopefully none of us will have to find out.

Have got into the idea of cloth nappies now so am definitely going to give them a try. Thought I might wait for the meconium nappies to be out of the way first though
There are so many to choose from!! Can see me getting addicted to them quite quickly Going to get a few different ones to try so I can suss out what I like/don't like before diving straight in. More shopping

cornflakegirl · 20/07/2009 14:25

Am glad you're less worried - hope the symptoms don't get any worse for you.

Yyy on waiting till meconium is out the way - bleurgh! Let us know what you end up buying - then I can indulge myself vicariously!

alana39 · 20/07/2009 16:41

Glad to hear you're ok Scarlotti and will be interested to hear your nappy choice. What was the name of that website with the questionnaire please? I think I have finally chosen a pushchair so need a rest before choosing a brand of cloth nappies

I hadn't even thought about meconium nappies - one of the many things that I have blocked out of my mind, I think.

One thing I am looking forward to, though, is using the swine flu advice to limit visits to newborns to hold off MIL being here all the time in between her usually hectic schedule of travel on the underground and sitting in GP surgeries or anywhere else you are likely to have contact with the maximum number of germs

cornflakegirl · 20/07/2009 17:21

alana - what pushchair have you chosen? The questionnaire is at www.thenappylady.co.uk

sydneysuze · 20/07/2009 20:36

Hi All!

Gulp! Am moving up that list!!!!!!!

That's a fantastic idea about keeping the Great Unwanted away after the birth Alana . Will def be using the swine flu excuse myself. Meanwhile hope you are starting to feel better Blondie and that the Relenza is available - and really glad to hear you are feeling perkier too Scarlotti.

Swine flu is freaking me out a bit I must say - all well and good the government saying 'avoid public places' but I work in a university for goodness sake - can't really get much more public / crowded than that! Am trying to keep all the newly arrived international types at arm's length but it's not easy to do my job that way - at least I've got Mat Leave in 3 weeks, yay And that's just what the UK government is telling me - you guys wouldn't believe the advice coming out of Australia

Thanks for the nappy advice and questionnaire Cornflake - very useful. Now, I have a new question for all you experienced mums -

Is a Moses basket a good idea?
We have been given a cot (new mattress) but it looks massive - Moses basket for first 3 months? Do they sleep well in them?

alana39 · 20/07/2009 21:01

Syd I haven't had a moses basket for either of mine, but we had a wooden crib just because it was bigger (lasted both of them 7 months as they weren't quick to sit up). We did have a carrycot on the pushchair, which was heavy but did as a small place to sleep around the house if need be. Think it depends on the baby - some seem to need a small place to sleep, others don't care - and a sleeping bag is quite good for making them cosy wherever they are.

Cornflakegirl thanks for link. I think I'm settled on the Maclaren XLR with soft carrycot. Have tried to get feedback on Products but it's mixed so I think I just have to go with the 1st reaction I had to it in Mothercare - every other pushchair is sooooo heavy and big when you're used to a Maclaren. Also it has handles for tall people! Was it you that told me to stop worrying about it because in 6 months I'd get a Maclaren anyway? Sound advice

cornflakegirl · 20/07/2009 21:03

DS slept in a moses basket at night for about the first 3 months. He slept in a cot for his daytime naps (and the size didn't seem to bother him!). However, the FSID advice is now that babies shouldn't be left alone for any sleeps, so I think this one will be in the moses basket in the daytime too. Assuming I get the compliant baby that I ordered...

alana39 · 20/07/2009 21:19

Oh no cornflakegirl, are we really supposed to watch over them all the time? I hadn't heard that, how long is that for?

Have spent 5 minutes doing nappy lady questionnaire, and finding out DS1 was at a party last week with a girl who now has swine flu. For a moment had nightmare of not getting to France at the weekend - have just had a stern word with myself about not panicking.

scarlotti · 20/07/2009 21:30

DS was in a moses basket for about 4 months, both for night and naps. We borrowed one though so is that an option syd?
We also rolled up some t-shirts and wedged them either side of him to make him feel more secure (mw suggested it) - if you and dh sleep with/in the t-shirts for a night or two first then baby smells you and feels more secure. Worked for us.

Watch them all the time?! Surely not... or does that just make me a flippant 3rd time mum?

Bidding on some totsbots nappies and wraps on eBay - the addiction has started... sigh!
