I am usually a size 8, now a size 10 at 11wks, just. I am putting on weight around my waist, especially at the front, but sides as well, but not thighs really. Boobs a bit bigger, not huge but again probably a size 10.

I have just exhausted myself shopping in town, what a nightmare! I bought a few things I am not happy with, and a couple of things I am happy with:

I am keeping:
two plain vest tops (not maternity but longish), one red, one black.
Black jogging/yoga bottoms for the house/lounging
Nice top for work.

I desperataly need the following:
One pair jeans
One pair black smart trousers for work, prefer wide bottomed
Tops, just some pretty ones that do not look like a sack, or some t-shirts.
Dress, maxi or empire line style. But nothing too flash like wedding type, just nice enough to look pretty out of work.

I really like some of the jeans in topshop, but they are out of stock, in my size both in the shops and online.

I don't want to spend a fortune as I might need to buy more if I get bigger.

Help fashion ladies?

I am so disheartened that all I bought was some bloody joggers!

Try Next jeans, narrow bump band £25. They are big sized (I'm a small 8 and 8 is large ish still, so you order 8 i reckon). Very nice or if you have £££ get some Isabella Oliver IO jeans. Amazing!

Have you checked out New Look maternity?

ScorpiowithabigS · 30/04/2009 16:52

jeans

pavlovthepregnantcat · 30/04/2009 16:53

Scorpio - yes I tried on a pair in new look and they are too big for me/or too long.

I did not put, but should have, one of the biggest problems I have is I am a short arse! 29in leg ideally, can do 30, but everything is 32!
I would love some isabella oliver ones but if dh knew how much i would be spending he would hit the roof! He thinks its a waste of money buying anything other than bloody jogging pants as it is 'that'll do'. Er, no. I do not have to become a frump thank you!

I shall look in Next, if I can brave town again. Do they do petite?

La Redoute have amazing maternity clothes.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 30/04/2009 16:54

Ah, not sure I like that waist band. I think i prefer the ones at the side.

Am i just being fussy here?

pavlovthepregnantcat · 30/04/2009 16:56

I know I said I don't like the high waist, but these are nice. They will be too big now though won't they?

I am sort of in between at the moment.

La Redoute usually send you endless offers as well so don't feel you need to buy everything all at once. Have you looked at JojoMamanBebe - they might not have what you're looking for but they do have several lengths of trouser and I think are generally better geared towards shorter legs as there were only a couple of styles of jeans with extra long (sadly!). Seraphine do good jeans - pricier than Next but not in Isabella Oliver league.

alana39 · 30/04/2009 17:10

should also have said check the discounts section on mumsnet as you can get codes for special offers for some websites

Gap has a huge sale on maternity clobber - I got three dresses, a t-shirt and a camisole for £35! They do a good 'demi-band' maternity trouser that saw me through from 15 to 30 weeks. Now too small, however....

marmoset · 30/04/2009 17:18

Red Herring at Debenhams do some nice maternity stuff, as does New Look. I also bought a couple of empire line floaty style tops and wraps from non maternity ranges which lasted quite well and can still be used (when I can face them again!). A couple of stretchy long sleeved tops can be very handy too to go under anything which is riding up and showing the bump (I know some ladies like to show it off but I do like coverage myself!).

Minshu · 30/04/2009 17:39

Nothing useful to add, but I feel the pain!!

I put on a good few inches quite early on (eating to combat nausea), but it now seems to be stabilising into the bump growing. So, normal clothes didn't fit, but I didn't know what to buy as I didn't know what would happen next.

I've bought some things that I hate - like some New Look combats, which won't stay up and are too short (supposedly 32"), but their really cheap overbump work trousers, side panel linen trousers and jogging trousers seem great so far. Bought some red herring leggings and cropped jeans, but not worn either yet. Stuck for decent work tops - everything is loud print and gypsy-floaty (some nice, but not work-y). Seem to live in vests and cardis...

Going shopping (again) on Sunday, so I'll be taking your suggestions on board. Would rather shop in real life, so I can try things on as the sizes seem to be fairly random at the best of times and worse in maternity ranges.

Quite fancy a safari-type dress - anyone seen anything?

Minshu · 30/04/2009 17:41

Oh - and although New Look has been ok for me, they do only seem to have 32" trousers in their maternity range (in the Newcastle city centre branch at least), so that's not much help to OP... Sorry.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 30/04/2009 17:53

I don;t mind going proper shopping, if I limit myself to just the one place, hence need for advise. I was in town for hours and just do not think it was productive.

I like the empire line style tops that are non maternity, as I don't have a big bump yet, but I cant find them anywhere !

I will take a look at the places mentioned, lovely, keep em coming!

Ah ASOS, nice jeans, 32inch leg [sad. Damn, and they are in a sale!

I got lots of empire-line smocky tops, non-maternity, in Zara's sale - all about £3! They have others, too.

traceybath · 30/04/2009 18:34

I've got the mamans and papas slim fit jeans and they're very nice - they also do a 30inch leg.

Am 26 weeks pregnant and just bought some white skinny jeans in next size 10 (not maternity) and they're so stretchy that they fit so worth looking at their normal stuff. They were also only £20.

Otherwise i stick to t-shirty type tops that cling to bump as find that things that hang make me look bigger than i am.

Also dress wise i'd look for some empire line ones - lots around at the moment. Next online also has some nice maternity dresses at a reasonable price.

herbaceous · 30/04/2009 18:36

Me again - I found that stretchy non-maternity clothes, apart from trousers, did up until about 30 weeks, but after that it has to be the real deal...

pavlovthepregnantcat · 30/04/2009 18:39

Bloody Laredoute, all 32inch too .

I am not happy.

White Stuff has some empire line-type tops and I reckon a medium sized bump would be fine in them (although obviously at 42 weeks you might need proper maternity clothes).
On their website they also have some cropped trousers with a jersey waistband which I reckon would work fine for a lot of pregnancy.

Mamas and Papas do a good range of jeans, including ones which are under the bump and don't have that itchy jersey bit.
Isabella Oliver (online only) do lots of stretchy tops that will do you until you give birth.

Not sure where to get a maxi dress but Mamas and Papas changing rooms have those fake bump cushions so I am thinking of buying a non-maternity dress elsewhere and then taking it in there to see what it will look like at 7 months!

pavlovthepregnantcat · 30/04/2009 20:10

MrsHappy thats a good idea about the mammas and pappas cushion!!! Unfortunately there is not one near me. it is now that i wish i lived near london! Maybe there is one in Exeter
