What's your fantasy post-baby meal?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/04/2009 15:08

ie. one which brings together all your favourite things which you're not allowed to eat?

I am thinking:

lobster with home-made mayonnaise
a cheese board consisting entirely of runny and blue cheeses - Stinking Bishop, Brie, and something blue and goaty
copious wine

Realistically, I reckon I could make mayonnaise with the baby in a front carrier, but dh may have to hold it while I boil the lobster.

What are you fantasising about eating?

Ohhh-- all the things I can't have now!!
But mainly baked camebert (can't spell it), scampi and chips, sweet and sour king prawns and pate- oh and a medium steak!!
wine, beer and a g+t xxxxxx

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/04/2009 15:47

Hmm, the steak is a good idea. I was short of a main course for my meal (lobster is more of a starter really) - think I'll have mine rare.

Baked camembert, mmmmm. I only just discovered about a month before getting pg that you could use it as a pasta sauce.

champers, wine,beer. coffee.

OonaghBhuna · 30/04/2009 15:48

yes juicy steak

MrsHappy · 30/04/2009 15:49

Effielou, you can have scampi and prawns, and personally I would think that a medium steak would be very low risk.

I will be having some nice pate, runny brie, parma ham and one hell of a lot of wine.

Effielou · 30/04/2009 15:49

ohh will try the pasta sauce!!! Champers is already on ice!! wel in the fridge!!!

notcitrus · 30/04/2009 15:52

What's wrong with steak? never heard that one!
Cooked cheeses are fine anyway.

I fantasised loads about a huge sushi platter being delivered. Finally got home after 3 days in hospital, faffed around choosing from the menu...only to find the restaurant was shut on Mondays!

The next day MrNC ordered it and mistakenly ordered £50 worth of sea bass for me (5 portions of 5 pieces...) it was fantastic!

Tee2072 · 30/04/2009 15:53

A real Ulster Fry with 2 runny eggs.

Some pate on toast.

A whole glass of white wine. Followed by a whole glass of red wine.

mosschops30 · 30/04/2009 15:56

I will be having a huge slab of pate, with thick slices of fresh bread, toasted with proper butter on.
Followed by a prawn salad
Followed by huge amounts of stilton and danish blue cheese

MrsHappy · 30/04/2009 15:57

Nothing wrong with steak, Notcitrus, but the Food Standards Agency says not to eat raw or undercooked meat so some people decide to cook theirs until it turns grey.

I've always understood that most of the germs are on the outside of a steak, so by cooking it (even if not well done) you make it safe. I eat mine medium when pg anyway, which is a slight concession since I prefer it rare...

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/04/2009 16:00

Notcitrus, ordering your fantasy meal in is an excellent idea and will make it far more likely that it will actually happen.
Unfortunately we don't have good takeaways round here.... if you want exciting food you have to do it yourself.
ROFL @ the 25 pieces of sea bass!

Mainly just being able to eat a delicious three course meal, savour it and enjoy it without knowing that its going to give me horrendous heartburn/reflux/constipation etc etc etc and I'm not going to have to sleep sitting up in a chair all night!

Ah, the bliss!

heverhoney1 · 30/04/2009 16:19

Umm

Pate on toast
Big fat rare juicy steak
some restaurant made tiramissu (Without having to look/ask if the eggs are pasturised!)

at least 2 glasses of a nice wine/ champers (Guaranteed to have me on the floor after so long off of it!)

And please can I have enough space to fit it all in because right now I would get as far as just dribbling all over the steak!

YanknCock · 30/04/2009 16:20

You can eat sushi--commercial sushi has to be flash frozen to a certain temperature to kill parasites. Government advice [[http://www.eatwell.gov.uk/asksam/agesandstages/pregnancy/#A219865 here].

YanknCock · 30/04/2009 16:21

Sorry, here!

suwoo · 30/04/2009 16:21

A bottle of smirnoff vodka with diet coke

funtimewincies · 30/04/2009 16:24

If the heartburn I had with ds is any indicator of what's in store for this one...

HUGE steak pie with proper chips and veg
Sticky toffee pudding with custard
A pint of proper beer (Bath Ales 'Barnstormer' for preference)

At the moment, nausea and sheer exhaustion makes any of this impossible, drooolllllllll .

Kathyis6incheshigh · 30/04/2009 16:26

Heverhoney - you will have space, not only that but if you are bf you will NEED to eat lots of extra food anyway.

I have to say that I eat most things when pregnant anyway so no strong desires for steak or seafood, sushi etc as I eat them anyway (although not often). but I do totally avoid Pate so always want that after I've given birth. Last time dh brought me in a nice crusty baguette and some chunky pate - so much nicer than hospital food.

ilovemydogandMrObama · 30/04/2009 16:31

DP did a lovely meal when I came home with DS:

Scallops/thai chilli sauce
Cracked crab garlic butter

Stilton/oat cakes

champagne

It was the best meal in the entire world

Effielou · 30/04/2009 17:02

MrsHappy After that- if I've enough energy to go for a meal scampi it is I fancied it all through my pregnancy!! I did have some prawns at TGI Fridays and they were yum xxx

I'm hungry or humbry as DS says now!!!

betterthanlife · 30/04/2009 17:06

for supper - Lots of sushi and sashimi and lashings of beer.

Breakfast the next morning bacon and very runny eggs (I'll be BF so I'll need to keep my strength up!)

witchofeastwick · 30/04/2009 17:10

a massive bowl of mussels in white wine and garlic

pate with red onion chutney

at least 2 bottles of rose

Beccabump · 30/04/2009 17:17

Liver and bacon casserole, huge quantities of pate on toast, a nice glass of wine that doesn't smell like meths (all alcohol does to me at the minute )!

SallyJayGorce · 30/04/2009 17:19

I find the baby filling enough without anything else
