I know, I know, I have heard it all before, it will pass in a week and a half (did not with DD), its not that bad (it is) have you tried ginger? (i hate it but yes have some tea now), its normal in pg you just got to deal with it, you are pg not ill, you have to eat something, it is because you are hungry, it is making you feel sick.

I have tried wrist bands, rich tea biscuits in the morning, banana, pasta.

In the meantime, it is getting more violent, my throat hurts, my skin is going wrinkly, my eyes are bloodshot and I am reaching the end of my tolerance.

Please give me some suggestions of what I can try to eat right now that will either a) stay down or b) have the least impact coming back up, as I am hungry but can't face food anymore.

Thank you in advance.

To stop you feeling nauseous try popcorn. Really worked for me, and have had thumbs up from friends I have recommended it to.

Least impact coming back up: Well, that's personal choice! . I found pink nesquik or yogurt preferable.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 25/04/2009 14:58

duffy - thank you, we do have popcorn actually, but its microwave stuff and our microwave has recently broken and not yet got a new one. I will go see if I can do it in a saucepan too...

my sister has been v.sick with morning sickness recently the only thing she could keep down was chocolate!!!!!!!!

YanknCock · 25/04/2009 15:05

I found salt & vinegar crisps to be a lifesaver. Don't chew them, just let them melt away on your tongue.

Flat regular coke.

Peanut butter and jam sandwiches on white bread (but someone else had to make it for me).

Not healthy in the least, but I had to give up any idea of veg, fruit, meat, wholegrains, rice (basically anything good for me) for ages.

At the very least try to get some water in so you aren't too dehydrated. GP can give you medication for nausea (didn't work on me, but works on some!).

I'm FINALLY over it (I think) at nearly 23 weeks. Will happily hobble round (SPD too) and punch anyone who suggests ginger to you.

DevilsAdvocaat · 25/04/2009 15:06

marmite on toast
s and v crisps

in fact any crisps

i couldn't face the bland food that is suggested (dry crackers etc). salty food seemed to work well for me.

i found i was sick if i didn't eat something every hour.

(not a whole meal tho!)

DevilsAdvocaat · 25/04/2009 15:08

oh yes and i found that if i made a sandwich, i needed to leave it in the fridge for 30 mins or so before eating.

the making of things tended to make me vom if i ate too quickly iykwim.

maybe try making a lunch sandwich the eve before.

dustbuster · 25/04/2009 15:10

I used to like french toast with maple syrup, those little brioche rolls you get in the supermarket, and crumpets with cottage cheese and a bit of jam. Anything bland and sweet. The cottage cheese was my mother's suggestion for some protein.

dustbuster · 25/04/2009 15:11

PS Poor you, it is grim, easily the worst I have ever felt.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 25/04/2009 15:12

chocolate - urgh, just sits there, waiting for its imminent return. Marmite on toast, mmm, maybe. I might try that.

Oh, peanut butter on toast, that sounds nice. BUT, I did not think I could have peanut butter. Midwife said better to avoid it (have history of allergies in family, brother, and nephews, but not me or DH).

Funnily enough, drinking fluid makes me more likely to be sick

I found melon quite good for going down and coming back up easily! It was nice and cooling and help with the dry mouth I also got.

I also found boiled new potatoes with tomato sauce ok and pork pies. But I could only manage a little at a time.

As for fluids I found fizzy drinks more tolerable than flat ones e.g. coke and lucozade and I found drinking them through a straw also helped them to stay down.

Good Luck, hope you are feeling better soon.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 25/04/2009 15:15

I can manage fizzy water, but run out and DH not here. I would send him on an errand but he has lost patience with my constant demands. I have to be a bit more self sufficient for a while

lemon ice lollies was about all I could handle for a while - and very cold lemon Fanta. Anything with a bit of sugar in it should lift your blood sugar a little bit, and might make you feel (slightly) better. Just keep sipping...

Polo mints were actually quite pleasant on the way back up

I could eat toast, or yorkshire puddings with gravy, as long as someone else cooked them and I didn't have to smell the cooking!

Hope you start to feel better soon

pavlovthepregnantcat · 25/04/2009 15:16

Oh yes melon, that sounds like a good idea. I really fancied grapefruit the other day, really really wanted it. And now know, not to ever give in to that desire again. It is ^not pleasant the other way .

Yankncock - its grim isnt it? Hope yours has passed for good.

also pavlov, geat a bag of mint imperials. they help with the burning throat thing.
also good to have if someone is cooking.

i lived on toast with marm, cereal and crisps for the first 12 weks or so.

now 16 weeks and feel totally normal. it does end!

choc or anything sweet made and still makes me feel sick. can only eat a bit now which is weird. first time in my life ever!

DevilsAdvocaat · 25/04/2009 15:28

*get not geat

Sycamoretree · 25/04/2009 15:29

You have my unending sympathy. Only those that have really been there with ms know what you're talking about.

Mine lasted 17 weeks with both pgs.

The best thing for me was salted popcorn alternating with a really crisp, almost sour apple like a granny smith. I drove round NZ with bags of both.

Preggy pops (buy online) kept me going at work.

Only sometimes - pizza express pizza.

Apple crumble and custard. Chicken pie.

That's about all I have for you.

Water - the key is to drink it ICE COLD. Let the tap run and run (sorry environment) or keep a jug in the fridge.

Avoid ginger - it made me more sick, as did chinese herbal nonsense.

Good luck.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 25/04/2009 15:32

Devilsadvocat - I had sickness all through my pg with DD, so sorry if I am a bit suspicious about it ending . In fact I now know just how much your mind edits things! I am 10.4 weeks, and I have had a let up of a few days last week, thought I had turned a corner, but no, it was a wrong turn.

I have just eaten two slices of toast and peanut butter. I know I am not meant to, but out of the list so far, its the one that made me want to eat something. I now want more, but know I have to pace myself or else be sick for eating too much!

I am making a list of things people are saying, and when I have had a nap, I will go the shops to buy some of things I do not have, for example melon, mint imperials (funnily enough, I really fancied some extra strong mints the other day!).

Thanks and keep em coming!

Reading this thread some things pop out.

Have your drinks very cold cold.

Go citrus where possible.

Mint good on the regurge - also milk. I remember weetabix being almost identical on the way back up!

Highly salted foods.

Sour/sweet combos.

pavlovthepregnantcat · 25/04/2009 15:36

the sweet/sour thing is sounding good. I am no good currently with artificially sugary things, like pop, or chocolate or ice cream or jam (not artificial but you know what I mean), but ok with juice if watered down lots, and granny smith apples sound good.

I will try to alternate see if that helps...

Sycamoretree · 25/04/2009 15:39

Get some salted popcorn too - the more natural kind if you can. Think someone else mentioned it on this thread too.

In the morning, I used to keep a banana and a cup of milk by the side of my bed and would reach down and eat/drink before I sat up. If I sat up without eating, it would be touch and go whether I'd make it to the loo before that nasty early morning vom. It's always easier to deal with if there's something more neutral coming up, non?

foxinsocks · 25/04/2009 15:42

best thing for me was eating a GIANT bowl of cereal before bed

then crackers in the morning (carrs water biscuits)

DevilsAdvocaat · 25/04/2009 15:49

aw pav! sorry to hear that. however, it will still end eventually

ms is a bitch you have my sympathy and some sort of medal for doing it 3 times.

also, i ate some limes once i craved the sour taste so much. notice the plural on limes...

DevilsAdvocaat · 25/04/2009 15:50

sorry 2 times (pg brain)

Biglips · 25/04/2009 15:54

have u tried sucking fresh lemon? as apparantly they seems to work (i heard it in a book and i ask one of the pg mnetters to try the lemon and it works).

crokky · 25/04/2009 15:58

I had hyperemesis right through both pgs and I really felt as though I was dying.

Anyway, I really didn't eat much at all (I just couldn't). I would try and suck a small piece of ice, that's really all I could manage.

Things like cornflakes and milk - I vomited them up every day, but they came up quite easily and (if you can tolerate the milk going lumpy when it is puked up), it doesn't burn your throat and insides as much as other things.

Don't eat stuff like tomato sauce - I found the burning from pasta and tomato sauce (when vomited up) absolutely shocking. Ditto the burning from tuna.

I also consumed dioralite whilst pg (a salt replacing diahorrea remedy for kids). it was not too bad and if you try and pick at time where you can sit totally still for a while and have a stab at keeping it down, it will replace some stuff your body has lost.

You ahve my sympathy.
