My scan - will I know in 1 week if baby has grown and therefore it's alive and everything is okay, or not?

Hiya

You may or may not know that I had a scan on Monday afternoon, the 25th April.

I thought I was 10 weeks pregnant going from the dates I have.

However I'm either only 5 weeks pregant, or, I am 10 weeks pregnant but the baby hasn't done anything for 5 weeks .

The woman scanning me at the private hospital i went to said the only way to know was to scan me again in 2 weeks and see if the baby had grown or not.

Meanwhile the NHS scan appointment that was made for me through my GP has come up and it's for next Tuesday, 3rd May.

That's only just over a week though.

So will there be a difference? Will I / they know if the baby has grown or not?

Is it worth me having a scan only 1 week later?

I badly, badly want to know what is going on but if the results are inconclusive again and I've sneaked time off work, D has taken time off, just to be told it's still to early to know if the baby is growing or not.....

Will there be a difference in the size from Monday 25th Aporil - Tuesday 3rd May?

So sorry to hear this TC. I agree with everyone else about going for the second scan. Don't forget that dbs grow at a very predictable rate at this stage.

I am 9 weeks pg and don't have anything like the symptoms had with ds this time last year (I was so sick and nauseous all day every day until 14 weeks) and I spend my days wondering if I've had a missed m/c. My scan isn't until middle of May and it's the longest wait ever.

I really hope it goes well for you TC - I have everything crossed for you.

Blu · 28/04/2005 10:16

How are you today, TC?

sassy · 28/04/2005 10:46

Hi TC,
just wanted to say good luck and really hope next week's scan gives positive and conclusive results.
My dates were 4 weeks out with dd2. We didn't find this out until I went for my 12wk scan only to see that I was only 8 wks pg- so dates CAN be wrong.
Afaik, babes grow incredibly fast this early so you should get a clear difference in size next wk. Thinking of you, x

Toothache · 28/04/2005 10:57

Just to echo what others have said. Definitely go for the scan!
And I had that dull ache with both pregnancies at 5wks...and 10wks... and 14wks!

Good luck.

pooka · 28/04/2005 11:05

I also had the dull ache for ages - felt almost like a burning inside, not a sharp pain but more like a constnat discomfort. If passed, babe still here (21 weeks), so really hope the same applies to you TC.

Hi girls, i feel better than i did this morning. I was so down this morning. Feel better again now. Trying not to get my hopes up. My boobs are so sore again today. The ache in the womb area turned into a bit of a sharpish pain 3 times this afternoon but nothing else. I had a word with him upstairs as well. Noone was in at work so I just sat and had a chat. Asked whoever was listening to please let everything be okay and if it wasn't to give the strength to deal with it and to give me my time again soon. I don't know if I really believe in God and praying but it felt right and I felt comforted, I've definatley felt better since having a word!

Best wishes to you TC. A good chat, even if you aren't sure who it is with, can help loads, so do whatever helps.

If you could have seen me sitting at work mumbling, or if my boss could have seen!

Oh, TC, love, the more I think about it the more convinced I am that your little bean only started a couple of weeks ago and is now growing madly (as they do) and soon you will see a heartbeat.

It all adds up really - it just seemed as if you were 10-11 weeks from what had happened so far. In fact I bet your subconscious knew you were pg now - but didn't before, because you weren't - and that's why you did the test when you did.

As far as the one-week-growth goes, if they haven't yet had the pictures/measurements from the first one then no-one will be able to tell and you will still be in suspense. If you can be sure they will have a baseline to go on then have the NHS one, if not then wait for the second week because you would have to anyway IYSWIM.

Big hugs again XXX

Thomcat - you do whatever makes you feel better. The wait is agonizing isn't it?

There is a lot to be said for not having early scans.
I'm picking up the scan readings from the GP tomorrow to take with me and I think I've got the whole of Tuesday off to ... well to hopefully celbrate.
I rang the hossie and asked for an internal and she said just ask on the day so there's nothing more I can do, except hope, until Tuesday, and hopefully I'll be allowed to keep hoping and get my smile back.
