Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi Mum2toby, I am now 8 weeks pregnant. This was a complete accident. I had no desire to get pregnant this soon, but am now trying to get used to the idea. I have actually been quite depressed about it - and the depression has been made worse by my nausea and vomitting. I think though that if I can make it through until 12 weeks when the nausea stopped last time, I will have a much more positive outlook and be able to look forward to having another baby. Thanks for the words of encouragement though - this took no valor at all, I can assure you. By the way, how was your sis when you were born - does your mom say there was any sibling rivalry or anything like that. I am very concerned that DD will feel deprived or jealous.

Mum2Toby · 12/05/2003 00:03

Tinyfeet - there was no sibling rivalry until we were older and just created it ourselves! We really don't get on now, but then again we have nothing in common, we move in very different circles. My sis was very protective of me when we were young. She used to tell everyone that I was HER baby... LOL!

My cousin has 2 boys that are only 13 mths apart! They get on brilliantly, and at 4 and 3 they are best pals.

She does regret not spending more time exclusively with her ds1 as a baby but then she got pregnant again when he was only 4 mths old!!!! I don't think you have anything to worry about. The rivalry thing is just really dependant on their personalities IMO.

Good luck and I hope that the nausea stops soon.

Any advice on what to eat for breakfast? I've been doing pretty well with 2 pieces of dry toast and the lemon tea I mentioned earlier. Also, Mum2toby - what are the cinnamon balls? I'm in the U.S. so I may not be able to find them here.

pie · 12/05/2003 14:07

tinyfeet, I don't think that you will find the cinnamon balls stateside. My DH's grandmother is British and we have to send her regular supplies. Where in the States are you

tinyfeet · 12/05/2003 14:21

I'm on the east coast. I'm doing ok with Altoids and lemon drops, but thought I might mix it up a little

susanmt · 12/05/2003 17:22

I am SICK!
Sicker than I ever was with the other 2. I think it is because I am much more tired than I was with either of them - because of them - and the tiredness makes it much worse.
Today is the worst day yet. I have been sick (properly) over 10 times. I think in the course of the whole day I have managed to keep down a pint of water in tiny tiny sips. This is for me who is supposed to drink 8-10 pints a day for my kidneys. All of my food (i am still hungry!!) has come back up!

I have tried - seabands, acupuncture, lemon and ginger tea, sucking ginger, mints, eating little and often, lemon oil to sniff, sipping lime juice, ginger nuts, ginger beer, staying out of the kitchen, not changing nappies and NOTHING is helping. If you can think of anything else, PLEASE HELP!
How do you know if you have hyperemesis? I'm starting to worry!

pie · 12/05/2003 17:35

susanmt; if you are worried about hyperemesis then take a urine sample to your doctor. If there are ketones present then your body is beginning to burn muscle and you need treatment. Be warned that the presence of ketones is usually sufficient reason alone to admitt a pregnant woman into hospital for rehydration and treatment with anti emitics. This maybe tough if you have younger children.

Although I have to say that when I went in 10 weeks ago (I was 8 weeks) it was so nice to not have to run around after everyone else.

See your GP though asap if you keep going like today.

susanmt · 12/05/2003 19:32

thanks pie. I'll get dh (not my GP, but here!) to dip it tonight and see. I am worried, but hopefully it will be ok. I'll let you know.

tinyfeet · 12/05/2003 20:41

Susanmt! Poor you! It sounds like you've tried everything that I could suggest. I think rest is really important. Can you get someone to come around to help you just for the next few weeks? DH has been pretty helpful lately, and that seems to have made a big difference.

tinyfeet · 12/05/2003 20:42

Susanmt - how many weeks are you?

susanmt · 13/05/2003 10:13

I'm about 9 weeks. Not entirely sure due to pregnancy being result of mirena failure and we didnt get a great picture at a scan. But about 9 weeks, so hopefully it will start to ease in the next couple of weeks - though with dd I was sick until 16 weeks - so hoping it wont be as bad as all that!

Ginger cordial and soda helped, also peppermint tea,the main thing is not to let your blood sugar drop too much,or so I was told.I always had to get up to the loo in the first 3 months so ate a digestive when I got up in the hope this would help in the morning. The other thing I found helpful (although disgusting!)was chewing gum which stimulates the saliva.

Susannamt ,poor you I really hope everything is OK.

emwi · 13/05/2003 14:01

I've just remembered, for some reason I could eat Eccles cakes when all else failed! Oh and grapes were ok too.

emwi · 13/05/2003 14:04

But you probably can't get Eccles cakes in America tinyfeet! Are you American or UK living in America?

tinyfeet · 13/05/2003 14:10

I am managing to eat pastries, which is odd since I typically hate them. For some reason, I am able to keep apples down and also cucumbers. Also orange cheese (cheddar or colby). I pray every moment that time passes quickly. Please get me through to week 12 without too much more vomiting!! I've also found chewing gum to be helpful.

Ruth21 · 13/05/2003 20:04

God, you poor women. I hope you all have people around you looking after you. This thread makes me so grateful that all I have had is loads of feeling sick, not actually throwing up. And the feeling sick lots of the time is bad enough. With me it is definitely related to tiredness. Don't have any advice to add, though.

pie · 13/05/2003 20:36

Damn it I jinxed it....had 2 days not throwing up and its back with a bang...

I found pastries were good, though haven't tried them for a while. I'm off to the bakers first thing.

tinyfeet · 13/05/2003 20:43

Don't know if you have these there, but I found flaky apple turnovers drizzled with sugar cream frosting pretty good.

tinyfeet · 13/05/2003 20:45

Ruth21 - you are lucky indeed. The really lucky ones are the ones who have no nausea whatsoever. I have 2 girlfriends who didn't even know they were pregnant because they felt exactly the same - no fatigue or nausea! Life is not fair sometimes. . .

monkey · 14/05/2003 14:53

All of you, but I suppose esp susanmt - so sorry to read you're having such a bad time. I'm one of the ones you might hate - no nausea, so reading about vomiting 10 times a day is horrendous. My mum vomitted the whole 9 months with both me & sis, but it seems, miraculously, to have passed me by.

I don't have any suggestions, just lots of sympathy.

pie · 14/05/2003 15:10

Ok, pastries don't work for me...just spent the last 10 minutes with my head in the toilet.

I was given some domperidone when I was discharged from hospital but I have barely used to as I just don't want take any more drugs. What criteria should I use for taking them...how many times do I throw up before using the damn supposities (which I should add make me lose control of my bowels)....

Aren't you getting tired of lying on the bathroom floor begging God for mercy?

Mum2Toby · 14/05/2003 15:15

Pie - isn't domperidone an expensive Champagne???

pie · 14/05/2003 15:17

LOL, if only you could get that on prescription!

tinyfeet · 15/05/2003 01:37

Lucky Monkey too. Sorry about the pastries, pie. Pie - I've felt pretty good about apples lately. Have you tried it? It's strange because I don't feel like eating them ever, but I eat them when I'm thirsty, and after I eat them, I feel better.
