Please help/advise - think I am leaking water - 2nd Trimester

TMI alert btw.

I am 20 weeks PG and have been leaking fluid - which I believe to be waters - for about 4-6 weeks now.

This is my second PG and I had had this sensation before, when my waters broke - they 'trickled' rather than gushed and this feels exactly the same.

The reason I am posting now is because I had kind of assumed 'it would all be ok' as you do! But today it seems worse than normal.

I am still peeing normally, am otherwise healthy, can feel baby moving and kicking, but also finding in this PG that I am a lot less physically able than before.

The leaking is constant and all day, ie, it doesn't get worse if I cough/sneeze or anything.

Is this common? I was so bad today I was feeling like I had wet myself all day, is it likely to be waters so early on, or pressure on the bladder? Aside from going to the GP (which I plan to do), is there anything I can try tonight that might put my mind at rest?

Sorry long post!

Hey Maddylou.

My friends are in Aus!! But I could do with family who are about an hour away. I have considered it myself to be honest, and have done in the past when DH needed emergency surgery!

Thanks Miamla - I am about to jump (well, waddle and climb uncomfortably) into the shower and will head off.

I will feed back when I am home. DH is going to come thank goodness.

Thanks for support.
My mother is telling me prolapse, google is telling me SPD, midwife is telling me UTI. Fingers crossed the MW is right!

Good luck HellHathNoFury! I am shocked at some of the attitudes you are getting on this thread. I was just gone 20 weeks when I thought I was leaking fluid as well. It does seem to be a period where women do experience increased discharge (I know cos I went google-mad!). Even so, it did take me a few days before I brought myself to the GP. I know exactly what you mean, you don't want to sound stupid or waste their time etc so you hope things get better and the hospitals are so crap that in the end, time has really flown. Just wanted to say that luckily, they did a swab test and scan at my GP's (he had like an ancient scan machine!) and baby was fine (he is now 13.5 months old!). Mind you, didn't stop me going to the delivery suite on New Year's Day when I was 31 weeks cos I was convinced the baby had stopped moving. Good luck, I hope it is nothing more than increased discharge for you!

Have been following your thread, hope everything ok HHNF. Ignore those posts, sometimes I think posters are trying to make a name for themselves by being as awful and confrontational as possible, I had the same thing once when I posted about wanting a CS a long time ago (have since name changed), I even got sworn at because I "wasn't listening" to those who don't agree with having a CS.

anyway, all the best xx

TotalChaos · 03/04/2009 12:13

when I got checked out for similar reasons they just listened in to the hb with the doppler and didn't bother doing a scan after they did the swab, so you may well not get a scan.

Ohforfoxsake · 03/04/2009 13:09

Good luck today Fury!

I'm so pleased to see how many people have supported you on this thread.

chickaleggjac · 03/04/2009 13:29

Good luck HHNF, absolutely ridiculous the way you were treated at beginning of this thread. Really hope everything goes ok today

musicmaiden · 03/04/2009 13:55

Good luck from me too! I hope it's something that's easily sorted.

I am curious as to which London hospital you are with. I also know exactly what you mean about worrying about having to fight to be seen, and putting it off - I do it all the time!

Thinking of you.

Owlingate · 03/04/2009 15:59

HHNF - I thought my waters had broken in mid-trimester and continued to gush out for a week - I went to hospital three times and they couldn't see anything when they did speculum exam but they didn't check anything else - i.e. no special colour change swab as I had with DS, no scan etc. Sadly they had in fact broken. I just want to make sure that you don't get 'fobbed off' by the hospital and you do get scanned.

I really hope everything went well, the fact that the 'leak' is constant sounds good to me, mine got worse on any change of movement e.g. getting off the sofa, going up the stairs. But like I say make sure you get a scan. You probably will because you're going to delivery not being seen by 12 y o gynae SHOs in A & E!

HellHathNoFury · 03/04/2009 19:17

Owlingate, wish I had read your post before I went, as I would have been ready for a fight just in case!

Thanks all for kind words.

I just got back, I was there from 10am - 5.30pm. Delivery suite said I wasn't for them and sent me off somewhere else (oncology??) where I was given a check, speculum and swab, and no fluid was present, however cervix very red and sore.
Because cervix so sore, sent off for a scan which revealed baby is fine, waters are fine, and cervix, whilst sore, is intact. Yay!

Back up to oncology where I had more tests, Dr's, Midwives, registrars etc and twas there that they found the ligaments in my pelvis have given up - NOT SPD, the bit at the front was fine, but the ligaments that run down the side and front are a bit buggered.

As a result, everything is not getting the support it should, including bladder (so yes the leak is urine), and putting pressure on bumhole, cervix etc.
So the good news is, waters are intact!
Bad news is, I have to rest up, not lift things, not walk far, wear incontinence pads and it's only going to get worse the more pregnant I get.

I have been referred to a physio to help me manage and help prevent it getting worse.

So an odd result but very glad it wasn't the worse of the scenarios!
I have to go back in 2 weeks for swab results and another speculum to check cervix.

Musicmaiden - I am with Queen Charlotte.
From what I have experienced it's a real battle to get seen and you are passed from pillar to post, but once you penetrate fort knox into the inner sanctum, they are actually quite nice

That's great news - hooray for successful outcome (well, sort of successful...)

LackaDAISYcal · 03/04/2009 19:45

ouch fury, you poor thing, but at least the baby is fine

I wonder if that's what was going on with me actually, as I am still having major incontinence issues 22 weeks post labour.

Be prepared for a very sore and uncomfortable labour; when I was in between contractions I was still using the gas and air as the pain in my legs was worse. I've never been so glad to have an epidural in my life and wish I'd had it sooner.

HellHathNoFury · 03/04/2009 19:47

Bring on the epidural. I had one last time, it was my friend!

(oops it was gynaecology not oncolgy, doh)

phew so happy all is OK Take it easy and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

angel1976 · 03/04/2009 20:37

Great news Fury! I know we pregnant ladies all worry too much but it's better to be safe than sorry. Take good care of yourself now and what a great excuse to make your DH do all the housework! ;)
