Please help/advise - think I am leaking water - 2nd Trimester

TMI alert btw.

I am 20 weeks PG and have been leaking fluid - which I believe to be waters - for about 4-6 weeks now.

This is my second PG and I had had this sensation before, when my waters broke - they 'trickled' rather than gushed and this feels exactly the same.

The reason I am posting now is because I had kind of assumed 'it would all be ok' as you do! But today it seems worse than normal.

I am still peeing normally, am otherwise healthy, can feel baby moving and kicking, but also finding in this PG that I am a lot less physically able than before.

The leaking is constant and all day, ie, it doesn't get worse if I cough/sneeze or anything.

Is this common? I was so bad today I was feeling like I had wet myself all day, is it likely to be waters so early on, or pressure on the bladder? Aside from going to the GP (which I plan to do), is there anything I can try tonight that might put my mind at rest?

Sorry long post!

Hmm
TheNatty · 02/04/2009 21:50

exactly daisy.

oh and i didnt get booked in for my pregnancy till i was 18 weeks.. so hows THAT for crap treatment?

Ewe · 02/04/2009 21:51

I was under Kings College Hosp in London and it was just like the OP describes, I also thought I was leaking water and they were fairly dismissive initially but I insisted they see me. Turns out I had thrush which is fairly commonly mistaken as a waters leak.

OP, why don't you call the labour ward now? They can advise you on what are the best steps to take.

Ohforfoxsake · 02/04/2009 21:52

FGS if you have nothing helpful to say cock off with your s

HellHathNoFury · 02/04/2009 21:52

Jeez babybaby. Not feeling empathetic huh?

Ok. When I first noticed wetness, you think 'hmmm. wonder why' then forget it.
later you get it some more and think 'hmm. Wonder if it's excessive discharge? I had terrible thrush in my last pg, maybe it's the same thing?' forget about it.
Later you think 'hmmm, perhaps I should buy a pad. But it can't be waters as I read somewhere that in early pregnancy they fixed themselves. Maybe it's bladder'

Later you think 'hmm. I really should get this sorted'.

But when you have full time work and a toddler and a busy life and stuff, you just don't realise when 4 weeks passes. And it wasn't always this heavy.

THAT"s how you can let it go on so long. Because it creeps up on you.

Not you Ewe.

Although I had the very same thing now you mention it.

HellHathNoFury · 02/04/2009 21:55

Oh you guys!

I don't need to join Bounty after all!

Babybaby I have to say your constant 's have had me on the verge of tears tonight, I really hope that's what you wanted.

If you didn't perhaps you might want to look at your social skills. Or not consider a career in nursing.

HellHathNoFury · 02/04/2009 21:56

Ewe, same, I had TERRIBLE thrush 1st time round, just thought it was more of the same as my old GP said if I got it once I would likely get it again.

Thanks for support. Much appreciated.

TheNatty · 02/04/2009 21:57

ah who need bounty when u got us.. and i'll swear at any fucker given half the chance

so babybaby as foxy quite rightly said

COCK OFF!

Ewe · 02/04/2009 22:00

Fingers crossed that is all it is!

And I second the "cock off" to babybaby123, not helpful. At all.

TheNatty · 02/04/2009 22:04

ewe i had the thrush thing too, must be a pretty common thing.
but still they should care more INCASE it is waters, 90% might be nothing but u have to treat everyone the same, do you not?

HellHathNoFury · 02/04/2009 22:07

I'll call them tomorrow and get seen.

I'll feedback tomorrow.

I do think that it reality the likelihood is bladder...it just 'feels' the same as when my waters went last time.

Fingers crossed.
And supportive posts - thanks all. Funny how time slips away. It was only Christmas 5 minutes ago.

They should still care but I think things like this take a backseat. I remember phoning my labour ward and them answering the phone and asking me to call back in an hour as they were too busy.

I think the babies they have being born are obviously the priority and they seem to be vastly understaffed. Especially at hospitals in London, they often have specialist staff and equipment so have high priority patients/deliveries to be focussing on.

It is a shame but that is why the OP needs to be the one making sure she gets checked out as they have too many patients to personalise the process and care!

Gah, I didn't mean this to be an essay but I have written it now

jellybeans · 02/04/2009 22:11

Hi please get seen ASAP I had this type of thing and assumed it was just 'weak bladder' or thrush etc. The m/w said discharge normal. It usually is NOT the waters (don't want to panic you) and if it is hospital admission can help. In my case it was my waters and I went into labout at 20 weeks as the water had become infected and my cervix was opening, sadly it was too late for me and DD I would always advise anyone who thinks their waters are leaking to go and insist on a check!

TheNatty · 02/04/2009 22:12

oh fury i know, it seems like only yesterday id had my second m/c and was feeling like i might never have another baby.. and im sitting her poking this lump of a boy asking him to please sit still cos he is hurting me

HellHathNoFury · 02/04/2009 22:17

Jellybeans I am so sorry to hear that. I keep thinking it must be something else but it kind of hit me today that I really should get it seen to.

I DID call all of the hosp numbers I had, and the GP, on the way home from work at 5.30 but everything had already closed.

I know this isn't thrush. I thought it might be but it's not like what I had before. it's very thin and watery. No smell, hence concern, but I also understand the urine in these small quantities can have no smell too.

I will call first thing.

I really hope all is OK, I am sure it will be, It's so annoying when everything shuts at 5. In my last normal pg (DS is 5 months) I also thought I was leaking and went to the hospital several times, used amniosense pads etc. Luckily he was OK but I am glad I went. With DD the leaking was progressive and it started happening when I lay down etc, it never smelled of wee. Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

LuluisgoingtobeanAunty · 03/04/2009 07:21

am sorry, hellhath, if you thought that my post was unsympathetic and harsh, i have to say i was v v suprised that you had not been checked out, i appreciate how difficutl it is, but saying 'don't worry/ get your home test kit/ wait for your scan' etc etc is just not always the appropriate response

sometimes not sugaring the pill is the best way to say something

i hope you get seen and that this is resolved

Longtalljosie · 03/04/2009 07:46

Oh God, I've had the odd dribbling (not even enough to see in my pants, but sensed it) which I was convinced was a weakened bladder. Am seeing midwife today so I'll tell her.

I have to say I can't believe the tone of some of the stuff I've read on this thread. Would you speak like that to someone who asked for help in RL?

TotalChaos · 03/04/2009 08:00

sounds like there's a massive problem with ante-natal care in some areas of the Uk but not others! Which I think is why the responses have been so harsh because other posters will have found it very quick and straightforward to get this sort of concern checked out. Best wishes with getting this checked out.

Miamla · 03/04/2009 08:20

thinking of you this morning HellHath
hope you get to see someone who puts your worries to rest

Confuzzeled · 03/04/2009 08:44

Hello HellHath,

I'm 20 weeks too and had what I thought was leaking waters. It turned out to be my bladder, I was so but glad I got it checked out. I always feel like I'm wasting the midwifes time when I call.

I hope it's as simple for you too.

It sounds a nightmare to see your docs.

Good Luck

HellHathNoFury · 03/04/2009 08:49

As suspected - Ante natal will have nothing to do with me and referred me to delivery suite.

Delivery suite have said because I am exactly 20 weeks they will see me - but if I called yesterday I would have been referred to A&E. They tried to refer me to GP but I told them GP always refers me to them.
But either way...I am being seen! Theu said I might have to sit and wait a few hours but...!

I lived in Reading before and if I needed to see someone, I would get seem same day without delay.

I wish I hadn't moved. I have to fight to get seen. It's emotionally exhausting and you feel like no-one gives a damn.

To be fair, I also used to think "why are people procrastinating? Why is it so hard? It's easy for ME"
But that's just it, now it's not, I wish I hadn't moved!! Unless you have been in the same boat with fighting to be seen you just can't compare!

Could you go somewhere else, maybe where you have friends ,and present yourself at a hospital you prefer?(say you are staying with friends)

Miamla · 03/04/2009 09:16

i'm so pleased you've managed to find someone that will see you. I reckon you should pack a picnic, a good book and an mp3 player (it'll drown out the noises of women in labour in the next room!)
let us know how you get on
