Due yesterday....increasingly dodgy tummy...

Due yesterday and over last few days have had an increasingly 'dodgy' tummy. After so many months of constipation, not sure if it is just my body readjusting since the baby is no longer quite as interested in what I am feeding it or is a sign labour is not far away, or could it be something else that I should worry about?

I think your body tries to clear itself out before labour, so this could be it!!

Jic · 16/02/2009 13:48

Having diarrhoea (sp?) can mean that your body is preparing for labour, by naturally 'clearing you out' and so having more room to give birth. hope your baby comes soon! don't worry though unless you start to feel really unwell, obviously.

Beantin · 16/02/2009 13:52

not quite at diarrhoea stage yet, but getting there. Appetite up the creek too - not really interested in it in last 24 hours, so maybe is body keeping space free......hope so!

This is a good sign. IME it is a good thing as it clears your system, makes room etc and means that you don't poo during the pushing phase. Not that you care by that point!

Good luck - keep us posted.

nigglewiggle · 16/02/2009 13:53

Try to eat something as you will need energy reserves.

Beantin · 16/02/2009 13:56

If it is labour coming on, what else should I look out for? Been have BH contractions this morning and last night - def not the real thing - didn't sleep at all last night due to not being comfy/fidgety and today am shattered. No 'show' as yet, but heard not all women get this anyway.

nigglewiggle · 16/02/2009 14:02

Afraid it's all different. My two were very different. One show, one not. One diarrohea and vomiting as contractions started, the other only vomiting very late. My waters went at completely different stages too.

Try to conserve your energy. Eat and drink sensibly and see what happens.

NB - Some experts may have better advice!

Why do we do this???

It's exciting!

Is your bag packed? Are you having a hosp delivery?

Have you had a nesting instinct?

I did mad cleaning of windows etc the day before both of mine arrived.

I'm getting excited for you!

Beantin · 16/02/2009 14:15

bag packed, no nesting instinct at all - in fact complete apathy....but then that's unusual for me who's usually rushing around! Gonna go read a book in bed and try to relax as belly aching a bit through BH's and concern for digestion. Thanks for help and feel free to post more advice.

Beantin

Any progress?

You could try some of the recommended methods of getting things going.

Not that I'm getting impatient

Beantin · 16/02/2009 17:49

nothing yet.....lots of BH contractions though - at least that's what think they are.....am starting to wonder now....

nigglewiggle · 16/02/2009 19:38

Oooh. Keep me posted. You can tell the difference between BH and the "real" thing, but they might be warming up!

Beantin · 16/02/2009 19:46

how can you tell? have been scouring the net and can't see anything conclusive. Has been about 2 hrs or so now that are fairly regular....manageable from a 'discomfort' pov. Am sat on my bouncy ball, which seems to help

twocutedarlings · 16/02/2009 20:05

BHs tend to be irregular whereas contractions will become more regular and increase in intensity, have you timed them yet?

Must say it sounds very promising fingers crossed.

Beantin · 16/02/2009 20:10

not been timing but they have been fairly reg - about every 15 mins, sometimes seem to have a mini one then another mini one 5 mins later...then nothing for 15 mins. Feel fine in between, baby active. No increase in intensity really for last 2 hrs. Some slightly worse than others, but all bearable - but def noticeable!

Just try and relax, have you been in the bath if its BHs then i find that a warm bath stops them, if it the real deal (which imo it defo could be) then they will continue.

twocutedarlings · 16/02/2009 20:23

When i say try and relax what i mean is try to rest up LOL just re read my post and it sounds abit lol, blame my pg brain !! i am 38+5 btw.

Beantin · 16/02/2009 20:30

was thinking about a bath....now DH home might try that - we have a deep bath and was worried about getting stuck if home alone!

Thinking about timing them to see......just wish i knew so could either prepare or not. Trouble is, if real thing, i guess could be hours and hours of this yet.

OP posts:
nigglewiggle · 16/02/2009 20:38

I had quite strong BH's. I felt the tightening etc. BUT when the real contractions started, they woke me up and were quite a lot more powerful and more painful.

Could be the start of something. Fingers crossed for you.

Beantin · 16/02/2009 20:45

Crikey.....I still have no idea.....been at least 3 hours now.....feels like periiod pains for about 20 secs or so (haven't timed them though) and do need to breathe through them a bit, or distract myself. DH come home and have told him and showed him the stuff online that says the difference between them and he can't decide either. Hee hee.....Not sure whether to try to go to sleep or not. Just bouncing around on my ball, which is more comfy than I can imagine lying down would be.

OP posts:
nigglewiggle · 16/02/2009 20:49

As tcd says - BH's will stop or become less frequent if you move around take a bath etc. Stick with it and see what happens.

A bath is good when you are further along as it helps with the pain. You can be allowed two baths in the circumstances though!

Beantin · 16/02/2009 20:51

I thought I read somewhere that if indeed is the real thing that need to make sure don't have a bath too early....or is it too late? Can't remember why though.

With the real thing is the baby active during the contractions? Last 'twinge' could really feel some movement low down.....

OP posts:
nigglewiggle · 16/02/2009 21:00

Don't know why a bath can be too early or late?

Can def feel baby move during labour, that's one of the things the MW will ask when you call in.

Sounding good....

twocutedarlings · 16/02/2009 21:05
