It's so annoying isn't it? I went into work after the Christmas break and everyone kept saying 'bloody hell - you've bloomed'. I'm 19 weeks and I remember popping out around this time when pregnant with DS. Grr.. Of course I bloody am, I'm bloody pregnant!!!

CatIsSleepy · 07/01/2009 12:42

one of the porters at work said "hello, porky pie" to me yesterday

felt like braining him!
of course i just laughed merrily and went on my way

exactly, Ineed....am not sure why people seem to be continually surprised by the fact that my belly's getting bigger...would surely be more surprising if it didn't...

Wait till you're overdue and everyone says 'oh you've not had the baby yet then' 'still here then, hehe' 'sure you got your dates right?' - GAH!!!

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 07/01/2009 12:46

Aaaagh! People say things like 'oh my God, you're massive'. How is that helpful? I remember I put on 4 stone with DS and people even stopped me in Tesco to tell me I was having a huge baby. WTF? How is that helpful? (He was 7lb 8oz - nice size really).... Fuckers!

ihavenewsockson · 07/01/2009 12:46

i had a (fat) guy say to me last week, "oh you've put on alot of weight, it must be all the doughnuts!"
Dh was a bit shocked at my reponse "well, at least it's not permenant"

it hacks me off the way people feel they have right to remind you that you are getting bigger. esp. if you feel a bit guilty that you've put on more weight this time cos of the chocolate cravings

CatIsSleepy · 07/01/2009 12:51

LOL newsocks good for you

tis surely not fair that in addition to all the physical effects of pregnancy we have to put up with idiotic comments too...

and look like we are amused

well my patience is wearing dangerously thin and there are still 10 weeks to go....

Because you're going to have a BABY and people find that exciting! The bigger you get the closer you are to having that baby. You keep getting bigger because your pregnancy is going well! It's a nice thing.

BettyTurnip · 07/01/2009 12:53

I've had three dcs in the last four years so I definitely had my fair share of it(actually, it was more like "God, are you ever not pregnant?!! third time around ).

I just tried to rationalise it by thinking I was possibly the only pregnant person they knew at that time so they were bound to notice how it was developing and say something about it (not realising it gets to be serious overkill!), whereas for me they were just one of about twenty people who I'd see that day, all saying the same thing.

Of course, once the baby's born you could be standing there bollock naked and no-one would notice...all eyes on the baby from then on!

CatIsSleepy · 07/01/2009 12:53

ah alice
i feel you are a better person than I

I got sick of people saying i had a small bump at work. Considering most of them look like they are pg with twins or triplets (men eh?) i always said "Well, yeah, it would look small compared to yours"

Mind you, have been in since being on maternity leave and they've all said how huge bump is and trying to feel it, pat it, poke it..bless em, one even got me to show my stretchmarks and told me 'they're beautiful.. a badge of producing a beautiful baby'

I work with all men as well so wondering if i should feel slightly worried at last comment hehe

Mind you, rather of been told that by someone as DP is not the kind of person to say things THAT nice/thoughful

Ineedmorechocolatenow · 07/01/2009 13:08

LMAO at Ihavenewsockson

justme85 · 07/01/2009 15:48

I get told my bump is massive and i get told my bump isn't tht big also, i've had neat, nicer than mine, is that twins? Have u eaten the turkey/xmas pud whole.... Generally I agree people are paying an interest, i do feel big but i know that I am 8 months pregnant and only put on 1 n a half stone and so i am quite plsed. My mom put on 5 so I can see how the turkey jokes wud have p*ed her off. Some people are interested, some are tactless (my best friend tells me she's excited for me to get fat feet like hers were-im determined to not let her have her wish lol) and others are too thick to know what wud hurt someones feelings. I cried last night because my bf commented on a gorgeous girl on tv-I c now how irrational that is consiering he's not in anyway doing me down if anything he tells me how great im doing etc. Try and not have a hormonal melt down and think about the gd things u have to look forward too.xxx

BarrelOfMonkeys · 07/01/2009 16:17

BlueSapphire I got told exactly the same thing, 'isn't your bump small?' for the first six months and now for the last three it's all 'aren't you big!' No, I'm just right, thanks!

My DH also made an odd comment on stretchmarks last night, he thinks they are 'pretty'.

uppsydaisyhereicome · 07/01/2009 17:51

I don't mind at all - people just want to say something about you being pregnant and it's the most obvious thing that comes to mind I guess - pretty harmless in the scale of things I think

mogwai · 07/01/2009 18:46

Oh I HATED this. In fact, I got so sick off it I took early maternity leave from work.

There was one particulalry porky girl who used to bellow "you're huge" down the corridor and I ddn't even know her.

The temptation to shout "so are you" almost became too much.

I wanted a teeshirt saying "yes, I'm getting big. I'm pregnant". I dreamed of alternating this with another teeshirt reading "I'm due in June, no, I don't know the sex, yes, I'm looking forward to it"

Grrrrr

CatIsSleepy · 08/01/2009 10:21

oh i know people want to say somehting...but I have a friend i see fairly regularly, she's been pg herself (we have dds the same age) so she knows what it's like...and even if I've only seen her a week ago she still says "ooh i think you look bigger"
now to my mind she should definitely know better

if people want to say something nice they could say ask how I am or say I'm looking well or something, couldn't they?

i always worry about the size of my bump and actually really wish others wouldn't seen the need to remark on it

and I would never make my first comment to a pregnant friend anything to do with bump size as i know how this makes me feel
or am i just oversensitive??
it's entirely possible...it's the hormones y'know...

Notreallycutoutforthis · 08/01/2009 10:26

I made a t-shirt for a friend for her first pregnancy with a big target on the bump and an 'I'm not fat I'm RADIANT' going round the middle. Was very pleased when I got it back for mine .

Also worth reminding people that with the state of your hormones you can probably get away with murder?

EyeballsintheSky · 08/01/2009 10:28

Wait till you're standing in front of someone with a pram and a baby in it and some arsewipe asks you if you've had it yet.

CatIsSleepy · 08/01/2009 10:33

LOL eyeballs
you've got to wonder about some people haven't you

OP posts:
Notreallycutoutforthis · 08/01/2009 11:15

@ eyeballs - had exactly the same thing - from a sodding ex

lauraloola · 08/01/2009 11:24

I used to say 'so have you, whats your excuse'!!

pgwithnumber3 · 08/01/2009 11:27

LOL, Eyeballs, that happened to me in Starbucks when DD2 was 5 days old, I was very slim considering I had just given birth (already back in size 10 jeans) and the girl working there said "oh what a cute little bump you have!" - I nearly wet myself, she was more embarrassed than me.

Penthesileia · 08/01/2009 11:31

I would occasionally respond like that Smack the Pony sketch.

Look confused at remark.

Look down at pregnant belly.

Shriek in horror and try to brush the bump off, as if it were a un-housetrained puppy.

That got 'em.

francagoestohollywood · 08/01/2009 11:40

I love smack the pony thank you penthe

I actually quite liked it when people told me I was getting bigger. I took it as a compliment
