Im seeing my consultant to discuss it on 22nd of january but worried about reaction ill get and feel a bit embarresed about asking so wondered what you guys thought? here is brief reason....

I live approx 150 mile from my friends and family, we moved here due to my hubbys work (promotion basicly) its a tiny village in the sticks in cumbria... there is a hospital 28 mile away but they only have a MRU and wont deliver me due to my previous 2 births been complicated and im a high risk pregnancy the nearest hospital that will deliver me is 60 odd mile away. The problem with this is my last labour lasted under 1 hour (48 min) and i will never make it to the hospital in time if this happens again, i realise a solution to this would be just call an ambulance and cross my legs lol! but 2nd prob is i also i have no1 to have my children if i go into labour when my husband isnt around he now works away quite a bit and even when hes at his main work place its still a good 45-50 min drive away, hes also due to be working away my due week!!! and cannot change it really as too much would be at stake for him career wise. If i was induced and had a date my mum would take a holiday from work and come and stay here with the kids while i went in to have the baby and my hubby would prob also be able to make the labour.

So theres the story if you have made it this far lol! what you think my chances of getting induced at 38 weeks are?

38 weeks, very little. When did you go into labour with your others?

Nemostwonderfultimeoftheyear · 28/12/2008 15:55

I would ask I was induced early with both dds due to child care issues, however also had depression so dont know if that swung it

milliemoocow · 28/12/2008 15:55

36 week and 38+2 thing is i have no idea what im going to do with my other 2 children if i do go into labour

What dates did you go into labour before?

I can really see your point millie, but your baby obviously is not ready to be born yet.

What complications did you have before?

milliemoocow · 28/12/2008 15:56

nemo did they agree to let you be induced?

i suffer from clotting desorder to do with platelets and it causes all sorts of problems and puts me at high risk of hemroging (excuse spelling)

If you laboured at 36 then 38+2 you probably stand a good chance if you ask to be induced at say 39 weeks if your baby hasn't appeared by then and get your Mum to come stay from 38 weeks or something along those lines?

The complications may swing it your way though.

I got induced at term with dd3 (have been induced at 42 weeks + the previous times) because of chronic spd and severe AND. Nightmare, early ended up with failed induction!

SleighGirl · 28/12/2008 16:01

millie it sounds like you really need to be at the hospital to give birth so I think they may agree to it as otherwise you won't make it there in time?

MoreSpamThanGlam · 28/12/2008 16:02

Ahhh...well if you have early babies anyway and its putting your own health at risk too then I dont see why not. I think a controlled induction would be a good idea (obviously dont know all the facts), having said that, I HATE induction...its awful imho.

Is there no way you could get someone to stay with you? Comm midwife?

Lulumamaloveslatkes · 28/12/2008 16:05

i think the social issues are irrelevant when you have a high risk pregnancy and precipitate labours.

i have known several women be induced for these reasons

if there is a real danger of an unattended , unplanned home birth and a real danger of heamorrhage then i don;t see induction would be refused, those are legitimate grounds, but can depend on teh consultant you see.

milliemoocow · 28/12/2008 16:06

my mum works full time and couldnt have more than a week off really... i also considered going and staying at my mums but means taking my other 2 out of school which is not ideal as it could go 2 week either way n could mean them having a month off school which is by no means fare on them. its a nightmare really lol!!!

If the consultant says no, ask him what he suggests you do to ensure you don't end up with an unattended home birth with your 2 dc watching you die whilst waiting for the ambulance to turn up...........it may convince him to see the bigger picture!

milliemoocow · 28/12/2008 16:08

lets hope i get a nice consultant and he sees my point of view and doent think im some mad women asking for her baby early lol!

childcare issues and working hours issues are not medical reasons for induction.

induction carries risks. benefits but also risks and induction for things like no childcare is not appropriate, although i appreciate it can be so so difficult.

milliemoocow · 28/12/2008 16:13

tistheseasontobesunny- that sounds like awful situation u were in i cant believe they wouldnt agree to inducing u...

sleighgirl- im going to tell him exactly that lol!!! n if that still fails cry n cry n cry n c if the guilt trip works lol!

Having had all of mine induced it would never be an option I would recommend because of the risks, increas of medical intervention. However being able to sort out the childcare in advance was an advantage! Was very sad that I never got my homebirths though.

milliemoocow · 28/12/2008 16:22

I was induced at 38+2 with 2nd child but they decided that i would be cos of my blood problems so i didnt ask to be induced that time and i suppose thats why im so worried this time because i am asking to be and not been told that i am being lol! and also i lived 3 mile from hospital that time not 60 something mile lol!!

SleighGirl · 28/12/2008 16:25

How did your induction go that time, how many pessaries etc?

Mine came okay when induced at 42+ weeks but the 40 weeker really was no way ready!

MamaG · 28/12/2008 16:27

milliemoo where are you?! I'm in Cumbria and was panicking about being 24 miles from MLU (kendal) and 60 miles from CLU (lancaster)

milliemoocow · 28/12/2008 16:31

well i had 1 lot in morning then labour suite were really busy so i got told id have to wait til a space became available again before i cold have my 2nd lot but then that night i went into labour and from my 1st pain t the after birth coming out it took 48 min. so it went really well but i no it can go wrong as ive heard horror storys. did u have a long labour with ur 40 weeker? or just along time getting labour started?

millie it's all a blur!!!! My body doesn't like going into labour I think.

Hmmm I started at 8am with pessary, then in the end I had a controlled ARM (very very painful) the next day around 2pm and had her at 5pm I think. My 4th labour was much better, first pessary did nothing - bishop score still 1 after 6 hours of prostin pains, 2nd pessary I started contracting properly. But my official labour was 2 minutes 5 hours after the 2nd lot of gel, they checked me said I was 8cm then she crowned then she was out.

However if you were induced that easily at 38+2 you seem to have short pregnancies rather than long ones like me.

milliemoocow · 28/12/2008 16:40

sleighgirl- maybe your babies like it in ur tummy lol! u must look after them so well while there in u that they dont want to come out lol!

OP posts:
SleighGirl · 28/12/2008 16:45

I guess so! They came out big, the umbilial cords were like thick rope. I literally did lose 2 stone by giving birth, then loads more making all the milk to bf them!

I wonder if it's partly the shape of my dodgy back I don't think they get to sit on my cervix very well IYSWIM.
