Did anyone just 'Know' they were pregnant?

I have heard people say that they just knew they were pregnant long before the positive pregnancy test.

Has anyone ever felt like this and if so how soon?

I can't explain why but I too had that feeling each pregnancy before positive test...just a feeling that something is different.

When trying to conceive this time round, I was a serial pregnancy tester but until I really was preg, I always knew when the tests would be neg, dunno why I put myself through it.

When I was in early stages of preg (this time round) the test was not clear but I knew it was wrong and did like 6 tests until the faint line became darker and clearly positive.

Hub thought I was mad and was trying to say I was not preg and I was like, "I am, I know I am...I'll prove it" lol

I was just like lulumama and was really surprised, even though we were TTC. However for 3 months before, each time my period was late, but I just knew then that I wasn't pregnant. My DH was convinced before I was

TheOtherMaryPoppins · 14/10/2008 09:20

How can you know the day after the deed?? Implantation wouldn't have occurred by then

HeadFairy · 14/10/2008 09:24

I did last time, had really strong implantation pains. This time, I'm still trying to make up my mind, got all the symptons, sick as a parrot and tingly nips. Had a positive digital test and a faint positive with an analogue test, but had some bleeding so I'm still waiting to see what happens. But I feel so blooming pregnant!

solo · 14/10/2008 09:32

Yes, every time I've been pg, however, I wasn't quite sure with Dd as my breasts didn't feel the same as with the others which were(I believe)all boys. Also, it was within three days of doing the deed that I just knew.

babyinbelly · 14/10/2008 09:56

I knew when I refused to do the test in Tesco loos. Have done about 4 neg tests previously in their loos but this time just couldn't bring myself to do it!

Can't think of a worse place to find out!

Dropdeadfred · 14/10/2008 10:05

Thanks for the congrats everyone!!

LittlePushka · 14/10/2008 10:13

Mary Poppins...I know it all sounds barmy, but it was true,..maybe it is hormonal/chemical?

peachsmuggler · 14/10/2008 10:29

Yes! Could feel "things" going on in my uterus. Guess it could have been the implantation.

TheOtherMaryPoppins · 14/10/2008 11:17

But implantation doesn't occur til around 7 days after fertilisation? Sorry not trying to discredit you, but i REALLY CANNOT SEEHOW THAT CAN PHYSICALLY BE? oops

mollythetortoise · 14/10/2008 11:23

yes both times I knew the day after conception.. both were planned though so not a surprise as such but I knew both tests would be positive before I did them. With my dd I was also a serial tester as she took 5 months to concieve and I knew in the preceeding 4 months the tests would be negative but still did them!

mollythetortoise · 14/10/2008 11:33

But Mary, hormones are actually released from the egg the minute it is fertilised to stop your body having a period and prepare the womb for implantation (or something along those lines - trying to remember my A Level Biology!) so it may be that the hormones "tell" us subconsciously we are pregnant. I really really did know both times and at least one to two weeks before I could actually test..

SixSpotBonfire · 14/10/2008 11:35

Yes, I sort of felt the moment of conception when I got pregnant with DS3.

FlirtyThirty · 14/10/2008 11:36

I had no idea...and we were actively trying!

blueshoes · 14/10/2008 11:39

No. But then again, I have very easy pregnancies with no morning sickness or obvious symptoms, other than a growing belly.

rosbif · 14/10/2008 11:40

Yes, I dreamt about a baby during the night I must have conceived. I couldn't tell the sex in the dream but as soon a DS3 was born it was exactly the same face as the baby in the dream. Very strange and emotional.

beansontoast · 14/10/2008 11:45

yep...not the first time though.

memoo · 14/10/2008 12:49

I think
implantation takes place 72 hours afrter conception. But the moment the egg is fertilized your body starts producing pregnancy hormones and that can affect the way a women feels.

Memoo???????????? What hormones??? How??? Implantation occurs 7-10 days after conception.

memoo · 14/10/2008 17:06

Look if you have a look in the third paragraph it explains how the egg begins to divide straight after conception, even before implantation.

Also the walls of the uterus start thickening to aid implantation.

So as soon as the egg is fertalized there are changes happening in the womens body, and of course there are pregnancy hormones, the levels aren't high enough to be detected in a pregnancy test because it takes a few weeks for them to build up but they are still there!

I had no idea I waqs pg with DS1 until had missed 2 periods (although was in hospital when due first one!) In fact the nurses asked before I was due for an op if I could be pg. I said absolutly no way. They did a test and it was -ve. A month later I found out that I had been all along. (Hadn't had sex in between either so must have been pg already.) Had no idea.

This time was trying and just knew. Can't say how early tho.

BTW sperm can live what? 48hours in womans body. How could you know what day you conceive on? Could be immediatly or could be two days after sex!?!

janinlondon · 15/10/2008 15:46

But surely a blastocyst does not produce any human chorionic gonadotrophin until after implantation? Not even at morula stage. And endometrium will thicken in response to rising progesterone levels regardless of whether a blastocyst has been formed or not?

memoo · 15/10/2008 16:47

No, hCG is made by the embryo soon after conception and later by the syncytiotrophoblast (part of the placenta).

TBH though, I didn't start this thread for an argument about the pyhsical part of conception.

I'm taking about a mothers gut instict, I have heard many mothers say that they just knew. Just look at how many of us on here knew, so many women can't be imagining it.

I think it comes not only from a women being really in touch with her body but also from the strong maternal instinct that many women have, so yes! You can just 'know'.

Sorry but I think it's a load of rot.

TinkerBellesMum · 15/10/2008 17:44

babyinbelly, no 5 days.

I knew about a week before my missed period. This time I didn't because we hadn't even thought about it, we'd planned to wait about three months. With Tink we were sure we were about to make a baby.

I think we know a lot of things, we're almost trained out of our instincts through our lives. I knew I was to miscarry and that I would bury a child (apparently it's quite common) I knew I would miscarry a week after finding out I was pregnant and I did. I've known that all three were girls.
