Much sympathy from me too. I had hyperemesis on both pregnancies. The first time round I was hospitalised for dehydration and spent pretty much the whole pregnancy in bed because although the worst of the vomiting stopped by around 5 months I was still sick on and off and nauseous all the time. The worst thing for me was the awful taste in my mouth all the time. It was like I needed to eat something particular but could never find what it was.
This time round (I'm 26 weeks now) the vomiting hit with a vengance around 7 weeks. I was distraught as I couldn't take care of dd and had to go to my mothers. I was seriously ill for about 6 weeks and lost over a stone although I managed to stay out of hospital. I took cyclazine and stemetil but don't think either helped. I was so low at one stage that my mother was seriously concerned that I was suicidal. Then miraculosly the vomiting just stopped. I couldn't believe it as it had gone on so long the last time. I still feel nauseated sometimes but once I eat little and often I am ok.

I would say to please, please speak to someone if you get very down. I now realise I was very depressed though out my first pregnancy which definitely contributed to my post natal depression and anxiety after dd was born. I am enjoying this pregnancy so much more than I did last time.

Best of luck. Hope you feel better soon.

Lillymolly, being so sick is a big strain on your body and it's resources. It's good to get out and do things but you will feel drained afterwards. Pregnancy is a strain on your body anyway. We went out for a big family day out all day yesterday and I have had to spend much of today in bed as result, but I enjoyed the day. Little burst of energy with breaks is a good idea.

Hi,

This is the first time i have posted and can't believe there are so many people with HG i thought i was the only one. i completely understand how you feel. i am currently 15 weeks pregnant and have had HG from being 4 weeks. i have been in hospital 5 times to be rehydrated its a nightmare and i sometimes feel really down with it all. i am currently taking stematil but have also taken cyclozine. Although i thought they weren't helping the Dr told me to slowly reduce them and tried not taking any tablets yesterday and couldn't stop being sick so i'm back on them. i am so bored not been able to work for 10 weeks and sometimes dont have the energy to get out of bed. I have found Complan drinks (can buy them in Boots) useful as they give me a bit more energy and Lucozade sport powder that disolves in water as this helps to rehydrate me. Also sugary bubble gum really helps.

suiledonn I could have written your post- especially the bit about wanting to eat something but not knowing what!

In my first pregnancy I had hg from 5 weeks right up until the moment ds1 was born. I lost 2.5 stone and only got relief from ondansetron. Thankfully I had a very good consultant who was happy to prescribe it for me- took the meltlets which dissolve on your gums. (Tried everything else first though) Hospitalised 6 times (last time at 31 weeks) and found it pretty miserable to say the least! Tried acupuncture and sea bands to no avail.

This time round (ds2 is now 6 weeks!) it was worse, much worse, at one point I was being sick 50 times a day - even breathing would make me vomit, the feeling of air going down my throat was enough to make me puke. Swallowing (not food or drink- just generally) would set me off too. However it was only worse initially- was hospitalised 5 times but only up until 15 weeks, ondansetron again was my saviour but this time in suppository form . I think it went away around 24 weeks this time. I did hit on a few self help hints which kept me hydrated and therefore out of hospital after the 15 week mark:

Ice cold water with lots of ice and a dash of robinsons high juice squash
Scratching and sniffing lemons (!)
Sweets- first of all Murray mints, I wouldn't be as nauseous if I had one of these on the go (but I dread to think what my teeth are like now) and then after about 8 weeks of them I moved to Wrigleys Extra, the blue version.
Sleep- think I actually got a bit depressed and whilst sleep wasn't a cure for the nausea/sickness, if I was asleep I didn't have to think about how awful I felt
Seabands- didn't help first time but did this time

Would also recommend cyclazine- not for the intended anti sickess effect but because it gave me the most amazing pyschadelic electric dreams which were fab! That was only via injection in hospital but the tablets I tried at home made me feel a bit woozy like someone else has mentioned which was welcome.

I'm really sad that this was my last pregnancy, but it was very hard on my dh and ds as well as me and I couldn't put my family through that again so no more babies here

Good luck, hopefully it will pass soon enough and you'll have a lovely healthy baby to show for your troubles! (Mine were 8lbs and 8lbs 11 oz so obviously not affected in the slightest.)
