Can someone help? I have just taken a pregnancy test, the first response one, and it has come up with a very, very faint red line, has anyone else had this? Its not my due on date yet but been feeling a bit iffy lately, so decided to take a test. I have 3 children already and when taking those tests the line ws very prominent

Also does anyone know what happens if you are pregnant and working for a company on a fixed term contract, can they get rid of you??

any help would be greatly appreciated xx

For goodness sake, how on earth can any of us tell you if you are, or are not pregnant? I mean, really? We don't know you. We don't know your sex life. We don't know your cycle. We haven't seen the test.

Follow the instructions on the test and all will be revealed.

Perhaps you can tell me why there is a post asking this very same question approximately every 0.2627 days?

bit harsh, Goingslowlymad. Why does anyone bother posting anything in that case?

hannah001 · 04/07/2008 17:05

I would have thought so (pg) - first response seem pretty good - as long as you didn't take the case to pieces, and you read it within 10 minutes.

Not sure about fixed term contract though - wouldn't have thought they could use it as a reason to get rid of you.

star6 · 04/07/2008 17:05

ohhhh poor you, Kat80! I don't know about working on a fixed term contract... but you can just not tell them for a bit while you're finding out about it.
Take another test tomorrow, then another one... and/or go to the doctor and have them do a urine and/or blood test.

TotalChaos · 04/07/2008 17:06

If you aren't due on yet, then it would early on in the PG, so that might be why the line is quite faint. Sounds like you are PG.

kat80 · 04/07/2008 17:06

Thanks hana, i'll try the legal board with the work thing

Goingslowlymad, if there is a post asking the same thing every 0.2627 why do you bother replying, people are on here for a bit of advice and/or support and not to be made to feel stupid.

thanks everyone for the comments, i'm sorry if i've come across a bit silly, but your advice is appreciated x

Goingslightlymad - presumably there are so many posts on this topic as

1)people aren't aware that PG tests are available very cheaply these days at Poundland, so don't want to waste money testing unnecessarily

2)as in this instance people are bit perplexed by the test result

or

3)for a bit of company

youcannotbeserious · 04/07/2008 17:09

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if you are on a fixed term contract, then they can get rid of you. They do not need to cite the pregnancy as the reason, they just do not renew your contract. there is nothing you can do about it.

I had a rolling contract with my employer and had every reason to believe it would be renewed (conversation with boss, etc).

I told them I was pregnant on the Tuesday. By Friday my contract was terminated. They kept me on until the end of the contract that had been signed (unbelievably the day before DS was born - so I worked right up until he arrived! ) but that was it.

And, what's worse, you aren't eligible for SMP, you have to apply for MA instead.

Sorry it's not better news, but having been through this recently, and contacted CAB, this is def. right.

Sorry.

MehgaLegs · 04/07/2008 17:09

How helpful you are goingslowlymad .

kat80 has explained that the test showed a very feint line and she was asking for other peoples experiences, probably for some reassurance.

kat80 - it sounds like you might be. Hope someone who knows about the fixed term contract bit can help you out.

goingslowlymad · 04/07/2008 17:10

kat80 what kind of advice or support were you looking for? No-one can tell you if you are pregnant or not. There are hundreds of posts here asking the same farking thing and the only answer is to test again or wait for your period to arrive. Tis not rocket science. MN is great, but no-one has true pregnancy-telling-psychic abilities or they'd have made a fortune.

star6 · 04/07/2008 17:10

maybe goingslowlymad is just having a bad day. We're all pregnant here... we know how it is But yeah, goingslowlymad... that was a bit mean. MN is supposed to be a safe place where we can safely seek support/advice and offer the same. I hope you are feeling better soon... we've all had our days/moments.

kat80 · 04/07/2008 17:13

thanks youcannotbeserious, sounds like bad news on the work thing then! i'm signed up till May 09 but if I am PG then wont make it that far, which is not too good, but i'm grateful for you replying as at least i know what i can expect x

MehgaLegs · 04/07/2008 17:15

I am not pg star6 (well I blardy well hope not)

youcannotbeserious · 04/07/2008 17:18

Kat80 - If you have worked more than 26 of the last 66 weeks, you will be eligble for MA.

But, regardless of your earnings (you only need to prove 13 weeks wages) it's only £410 per week (OK, better than nothing) which isn't lots.

I'm afraid I don't know what happens if you aren't able to finish up the contract... Do contact CAB though, they were very helpful

FWIW, I am not PG either (well if I am it's a blardy immaculate conception!!!)

kat80 · 04/07/2008 17:22

I have been working for the last 4 years, and have only just left my last company (perm) in may! and then started the 1 years contract! typical! i'll be able to prove 13 weeks wages, do you mean £410 a month?

i'm going to google MA now!!

OP posts:
kat80 · 04/07/2008 17:27

no i definately wont tell them yet, (i'm still hoping that i might not be) but if i am then i'll leave it as long as possible! Will just have to avoid any social events, or pretend i'm contantly on antibiotics, or they'll wonder why i'm not having a drink lol!

OP posts:
youcannotbeserious · 04/07/2008 18:04

yes sorry per month

itati · 04/07/2008 18:11

Be very careful and get as much in writing as you can. They can't get rid of you because you are pg but they can be quite sneaky at using other reasons to get rid, when really it is because of the baby.

A line is a line, btw. Good luck.

Goingslowlymad if it bugs you so much, why click on the thread? You are being nasty imo.

The OP was looking for a little bit of reassurance.

NorthernLurker · 04/07/2008 18:40

Kat - hope everything works out for you
