Worried about pregnancy tests changing at nearly six weeks

Hi, just looking for a bit of advice as I’m worried about my pregnancy tests. The first day of my last period was 3rd July and I got my first positive on 3rd August, so I should be around 5 weeks 6 days now.
I had some very light brown spotting around 3rd–6th August. It was only a small amount when wiping and it stopped so I’m guessing this was implantation bleeding?
I got 1- 2 weeks on a Clearblue Digital on 7th August and then yesterday, 12th August at about 6:30pm, it went up to 2- 3 weeks. I’d been drinking normally throughout the day before taking that one as well.
I’ve been working night shifts so my sleeping and testing times are a bit all over the place. I finished my night shift this morning, went to sleep and when I woke up I did another strip test which looked lighter than my previous ones. I then did another Clearblue Digital at about 2pm and it’s gone back down to 1- 2 weeks. I hadn’t had anything to drink since around 5am, so I wouldn’t have thought my urine would be particularly diluted.
I’ve got an early scan booked for Saturday 15th August and my first midwife appointment on Tuesday 18th August. I’m just worried because the digital has gone from 1-2 to 2-3, then back to 1- 2 the next day and my tests look a bit lighter ( see picture) and I wondered if this is something I need checking? I’m testing constantly x

Not necessarily. Look up the hook effect. It’s where hCG levels can overwhelm a pregnancy test strip. At the stage OP is at I think it’s just maintaining anxiety and isn’t helpful. If it was first 1-2 weeks fair enough, but OP is 5, almost 6 weeks.

The hook effect doesn't come into play til around 10 weeks usually, 8 at the earliest.

Those ClearBlue tests are the devil, there are so many posts about them on here causing stress and anxiety.

OP, wishing you lots of luck for your scan but if you can, definitely stop testing xx

Hopefully you ovulated later and the night shifts have affected the progression, good luck for your scan! X

Thank you xx

Good luck for your scan today. I would also be worried in your shoes, but you are only two weeks past a missed period. I'm hopeful for you that you ovulated a little later, and got your first positive when you were only 7/8dpo. If that is the case they still may not see anything on scan today so be prepared to be asked to return in a week or so.

Update - had my scan they couldn’t see a pregnancy sac or yolk. Advised I’m super early or miscarrying , I e been referred to epu for an internal scan Monday 😢 because my periods are so irregular I could still be 3 weeks she was saying x

That doesn’t sound good OP. You can’t be 3 weeks as you got a positive test almost 2 weeks ago and you need to add the 2 extra weeks on minimum so you’re at least 5 weeks. It’s unusual they can’t see a pregnancy sac at all. Were they worried about ectopic? It can be normal to not see a yolk sac etc at 5 weeks but normally you can at least detect the sac in the correct place.

No I asked about ectopic she said everything else looked fine , but said they might be able see better with an internal scan Monday, so will see then I guess when have bloods etc at the hospital x

Ah ok if it wasn’t internal then they normally see less on that. An internal should give a clearer picture. But you definitely can’t be 3 weeks with a positive test 2 weeks ago. The earliest you can get a positive test is dead on 3 weeks (7 days past ovulation). So let’s say you got a positive test at 7dpo on 3rd August that would make you 3 weeks on that date so now the earliest you today is 4w5 days.

If you are 4w5d then I don't think I'd expect to see anything on an abdominal scan. Im suprised she didn't go TV straight away. That said, I've sadly been in your situation many times and it's unfortunately never ended well for me. Either ectopic or miscarriage. They do need to be doing a TV scan to properly check your fallopian tubes if there's no sac visible. I'm so sorry you're in this position 💔

Hi just an update , and probably more Advice is anyone has any 🥺. The Saturday following my scan I had abdominal pain I went to a n e which wasn’t in my area as I was away for the night my HCg was 86.
I went to EPU on Monday and had both an abdominal and internal scan but they still couldn’t see anything, so it’s still classed as a pregnancy of unknown location. My hCG was 111 on Monday and I had it repeated on Wednesday and it was 107, so it’s basically stayed static rather than rising.
I’m still having brown bleeding/spotting with the occasional bit of fresh blood and some mild twinges, but otherwise I feel okay. EPU have said they’re continuing to treat it as a PUL and I need another blood test in a week to see what the levels do. So unfortunately still don’t know whether it’s a pregnancy that’s resolving itself or an ectopic just more waiting 😩 Anyone know whether it could be a MC or ectopic I’m so anxious and on pins. This is why I took so many tests I had a gut feeling from the start something wasn’t right 😞 x

@mumtofred im so sorry you’re going through this, it’s such a worrying and upsetting time. I had the stalling clear blue tests where they just wouldn’t progress past 2-3, had a scan booked around 6ish weeks and was told my dates were a week out but I knew it all added up to bad news. I had another scan a week later and there was progress but slower than it should have been. The following day I started light bleeding at which point the clear blue was 1-2 weeks, the bleeding then progressed and within 24hrs I had passed the pregnancy. I hope that you have a different and more positive outcome ♥️ sometimes you just know though and I did when I had those weeks tests, I still had strong symptoms, cravings etc but unfortunately it didn’t work out, this was over a year ago and I’ve had a chemical since then too. Good luck 🫶🏼 x
