Hello
Just wanted people's views
We live in Wales and DS goes to Welsh speaking school. He is Harri so want something Welsh but also easily pronounced in English. Next child is also a boy.
Can't decide between Edwyn (known as Eddie)
Or Evan.
Middle name will be Tomos.
Also open to other suggestions!!
Thank you

If you like two syllable names then I would suggest:

Elis or Idris as being particularly easy to pronounce with an English tongue.

But Ifan and Iwan are lovely too and not too hard to get right.

Lavendersquare · 07/07/2026 21:10

How about Owain, Huw or daffy.

Lavendersquare · 07/07/2026 21:10

That should say Dafydd, not Daffy 😂

Cockerpoomom · 07/07/2026 21:12

I like Evan.

Whatatodo79 · 07/07/2026 21:12

We went for Griffydd (Gruffydd) thinking that was very unique (we are Welsh but in the East Mids). Little boy at playgroup with exactly the same name and spelling!

Iwiicit · 07/07/2026 21:17

I have a wonderful son called Evan Tomos! You have impeccable taste obviously.

SowWhatNow · 07/07/2026 21:20

Dilwyn

FusionChefGeoff · 07/07/2026 21:23

Hayden is a name I loved from my Welsh side but DH is too English to agree to that!

marmaladygaga · 07/07/2026 21:28

I like Aled but DH vetoed for entirely reasonable reasons.

i also like Gethin, Idris and Iwan

Clearinguptheclutter · 07/07/2026 21:41

There is no v in the Welsh language so Efan would be a better choice

Similarly, Hayden is not remotely Welsh

Twoweeksinaugust · 07/07/2026 21:47

Wyn / Gwyn are personal faves of mine.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 07/07/2026 21:47

What about Eifion?

Sailawaygirl · 07/07/2026 21:52

Gwilym
Geraint
Or does Tristan count as Welsh?

MrsMoastyToasty · 07/07/2026 21:57

I know men and boys with the following Welsh names. I'm English but don't have difficulty pronouncing any of them.

Arwel
Ieuan
Iwan
Rhys

I also like the name Tudor.

Any1ForTennis · 07/07/2026 22:00

Ellwyn. Is Edwyn a Welsh spelling as I've only met Elwin's?

FionasFarmyard · 07/07/2026 22:02

Rhodri
Iolo

HudALledrith · 07/07/2026 22:03

Wiliam Wink
Edwyn isn't Welsh. Neither is Elwyn. Ellwyn is a misspelling.
Dilwyn would be in his 60s or older.
Trystan is the Welsh spelling.
Arthur sounds nicer in Welsh.

Avoid Arwel, Eifion, Geraint and Ieuan - they'll get mispronounced.

ivyleafgeranium · 07/07/2026 22:10

What about Bryn. Is that Welsh or have I imagined it.

hmmdunno · 07/07/2026 22:15

Merlin and Mostyn are nice I think. Also Tristram, Dylan, Teagan

HudALledrith · 07/07/2026 22:18

Bryn is Welsh but not a baby's name. He'd be in his 60s or older.

Merlin is Myrddin in Welsh. Mostyn is great but a bit linked with Llandudno.

Do you like Lloyd, @Tax12 ? It's an anglicised name.

If you don't mind popular names there's Jac.

Clearinguptheclutter · 07/07/2026 22:21

hmmdunno · 07/07/2026 22:15

Merlin and Mostyn are nice I think. Also Tristram, Dylan, Teagan

Tristram and Teagan definitely not welsh

Dylan is, but not pronounced as in England.
its DULL-an

Silverbirchleaf · 07/07/2026 22:24
