I have been feeling so so sick from about 1 week after conception - now I am 7 week plus 5 and still feel so sick everyday (but not been sick).

Have tried Ginger biscuits, Ginger beer, mints, wrist bands. nothing works any ideas on whats worked for you. I will try anything.

I have emetophobia (phobia of vomiting) and also (thinkfully) a good, understanding GP. Had already discussed this with him at the point that we were trying to get pregnant. He reassured me that there are treatments you can take for MS.

When I started feeling sick in my first pregnancy (at around 6-7 weeks , ooopsyoopsydaisy) he was brilliant and prescribed 25mg tablets of Phenergan, which worked well for me (still felt sick and tired/nauseous much of the tired, but never got anywhere actually near being sick, which is what I fear most - just ate lots of Carr's water biscuits - yummy!).

Second time round I bought the same medication over the counter - called Sominex - only it's 20mg, but it seemed to do the job just as well for me again. Don't tell the pharmacist it's for MS as they won't sell it for this purpose - I said it was for DH who couldn't sleep!

It's sold as a sleep aid, but is also an old-style anti-histamine and travel sickness remedy. Take it in the evening. May also aid sleep (Yay!), or cause drowsiness (Boo!), though I never found it seriously knocked me out! Was permanently knackered anyway!!

Stopped taking it at about 14-15 weeks when the feelings of nausea just went. Oh and both babies are very healthy indeed btw - will would do exactly the same again when if it happens . Planning already!! And to think I nearly catergorically refused to get pregnant for fear I might vomit...

Hang in there - it will get better!

acupuncture - does hurt a bit but would have stuck pins in my eyes to get rid of sickness. Would definitely do it again.

I tried everything - wrist bands, homeopathy you name it but the only thing that helped was eating in small amounts every two hours -bananas are good as they are high in potassium. Also anything starchy - crisps, bread, rice etc.

Really feel for you. Mine lasted til week 22

becaroo · 27/06/2008 13:17

Jellie...acupuncture doesnt hurt at all -can be a bit costly though.

Jelliebaby · 27/06/2008 14:41

Mmmmmm Not sure if i can afford it. If i knew it would work i'd be tempted but everything else has failed so not much faith left.

terribletwos · 27/06/2008 22:05

jackieglyn - like the others say it does get better - honestly!
'Nice' biscuits or plain cream crackers just to get something down you (worked for me) and melon of any description don't know why?? I managed to get tea with lemon and ginger down too very occasionally.

i felt sick from about week 7 to week 15. And felt totally knackered too.

First thing in the morning was the worst, so dh would creep out of bed, get me some watered down apple juice and 2 dry oatcakes, leave them on my bedside table and creep away to the bathroom. I would stretch out a hand without lifting head at all, consume the offering, lie perfectly still for another 10-15 minutes then slowly get up. It seemed to help reduce the worst "washing machine on spin cycle on deck of leaky hovercraft in force 15 storm" feelings. Was never actually sick but think the feeling of just-about-to-be-oh-no-i'm-not is worse!!

Carried oatcakes (nairns organic are nice) with me everywhere, little crumb trails like Hansel and Gretel round my work. Then suddenly one day i just felt better.

I was sick from 7 weeks until 42 weeks... Vomited most days, some days 4-5 times per day. I tried most things, stemetil PR was most effective. In the end only childbirth sorted me out....

chocbutton · 30/06/2008 12:19

feel for you with this, it's awful isn't it?
i found the following helped:
crunchy green apples
really strong salt and vinegar crisps - McCoys or something
macaroni cheese
super noodles DH thought this was gross and normally so would I but I just craved them so badly, it was as if I could just have some supernoodles I'll feel ok.
SN's craving lasted about 2 weeks, but the other things helped me through 14 weeks of misery
good luck, just try anything and everything, whatever your body tells you xx

Booboobedoo · 30/06/2008 12:23

Chocbutton: I normally don't post on this topic, as the very memory of the sickness still makes me shudder, but I just found that processed food was an absolute godsend.

I mean, almost pre-digested, so your stomach has to do as little as possible.

What really helped me was McDonalds.

Booboobedoo · 30/06/2008 12:24

Oops: sorry! jackieglyn, not chocbutton.
