Hi all, I am 42 and 4 wks 4 days! A shock as my first was 11 years ago via IVF. We had our consultant IVF appointment on the 5th April and were ready to go ahead in May. No need now!

Very excited but also nervous which I know is normal. I have had to step away from poas as it was becoming addictive.

Any other 40+ mums to be out there?

I'm not currently pregnant, but had my second at 40, after a gap of 11 years.
My son is now 27, and his sister is almost 16. They still absolutely adore each other and have a wonderful strong relationship, which brings me great joy!
Wishing you all the very best, enjoy every minute!

Editing to add that being pregnant at 40, and then having a young child made me feel younger and gave me a new energy! I didn't feel my age at all!

Oh this is fabulous! Exactly what I am hoping for mine 🙂

I feel so excited about it. There are so many people having children later on life, I certainly don't feel old! X

Hi lovely.
Congratulations !!!

wonderful news for you.

I had my youngest at 42… a shock yes… but he’s been the making of me and enabled me to be so much more.

I had my older boys at 25 and 31 and had to hand them over to a childminder whilst I worked… this time I was older and wiser and thought nope… my son, I’m bringing him up… so started my business and 15 years later we’re thriving.

yes his older brothers are 32 and 26 … so more like uncles, but they adore him and no doubt will be the first to buy him a pint when he turns 18 !!!!

best thing ever !!

Good luck … it will be grand !!

Congratulations! Due on 27th December I think. Pretty sure they will induce me a week early due to age likely around the 22nd. X

I wasn’t quite 40 but I had my youngest at 39, the most easy pregnancy and unmedicated homebirth, just a wonderful experience from start to finish! I’ll be 40 in a couple of weeks and my two are two and 9 months and it’s just wonderful 🥰 they are keeping me very active! Big congratulations to you!

I'm 41, 42 in October, and I'm 32 weeks. I've found it a really easy pregnancy and I've enjoyed it. I did IVF and PGT-A testing on the embryos as I know the miscarriage risk is pretty high, but I honestly don't think the pregnancy itself has been hard at all.

Kids keep you young. I had dc2 age 42 after a big age gap and people are astonished when I tell them I’m 50. A lot of people asked me if he was adopted though as I kept the pregnancy quiet and managed my weight carefully to try and stay healthy so loads of people had no clue the baby was coming.

A rarely-mentioned benefit is that dh and I enjoyed our late return to parenting so much more than when we had to do the newborn babe thing in our 30s . Jobs and finances are more secure; you appreciate the gift of that precious new life immensely. My dh is no longer working 60+ hour weeks. So as my ds has grown up, dh has done loads more with ds and especially a lot more exercise than he would I’m sure if he was just a middle-aged father of teens. It’s been really lovely to see Dh blossom as a parent in his 40s.

I had my second child at (very nearly) 45. Easy pregnancy and birth.
Just bear in mind that you will have a young child whilst you are going through the menopause. I had an easy, uneventful menopause, but lots of women don’t and I think that would be very tricky with a young child to care for.

I hadn't even thought about that! X

You are so right about jobs and finances and just being that little more secure. I am really looking forward to this new lease of life and being able to do it all again.
