How quickly after MC did you conceive? And what did you do (if anything) to increase chances?

Just as the title says really.. I had surgical management for MMC at 9 weeks pregnant two weeks ago and just curious how long it took others to conceive after a miscarriage and if you did anything to increase your chances? Keen to conceive again quickly x

My first DC was conceived on the first go, but when we started trying for DC2 it was still a surprise to conceive first time again. Unfortunately this ended as a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I waited until I had a negative pregnancy test, which took a while but started trying as soon as I could. It was on the second month I got pregnant again, but this also ended in a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I was too upset to try again straight away after the second so we had a few months off. In this time I had some blood tests (all fine) and tried to get myself as mentally and physically healthy as I could. I started on pregnancy multivitamins and tried to just enjoy life for a bit. We booked a lovely holiday for the following spring so I had something to look forward too. I felt ready to try again 4 cycles later and got pregnant straight away, this one stuck and became DD (I was 16 weeks pregnant on our lovely holiday). I used natural cycles to track ovulation which was very successful - I ovulated late the time we conceived DD and probably would have missed it without temp tracking.

Honestly I don’t know what caused either miscarriage but I felt like the second pregnancy was doomed to fail because I hadn’t physically or emotionally recovered from the first. That was just me though, lots of people have success straight after one.

I had a MMC at 9 weeks too, took about 6 weeks for my periods to return then was pregnant about 3 months after that so 4.5 months after the MC, but we didn’t really try the first couple of months
after it to have a bit of a break, so could have got pregnant sooner if we tried properly.
Didn’t do anything to increase chances no apart from the usual taking folic acid and cutting down on alcohol.
Sorry for your loss, it’s such a horrible thing to go through, mine was around this time of year too and felt like I was just going through the motions that Christmas for the sake of my eldest.
Take a bit of time to recover physically and emotionally

I had a miscarriage at the end of March 2017 and had to have surgical management in the April, lots of complications. Got a negative pregnancy test 2 weeks later and started trying after my next period in the May. Got pregnant first cycle and gave birth the following March. He’s now asleep in the next room. Just took the prenatal vitamins. I did nothing differently.

so sorry for your loss OP.

i had a miscarriage at 10 weeks and then had a D&C. It had taken 2 years to conceive with the pregnancy and I’d been obsessive about tracking ovulation, taking supplements etc. I was devastated as assumed it would take months/years to conceive again.

DH and I had sex before my period returned - not not trying but zero expectations of conceiving and I ended up pregnant within 3-4 weeks of the D&C. That 2nd pregnancy was my now 11 yo DD.

I never fully relaxed during the pregnancy (or labour) but I was so grateful to have gotten pregnant so quickly after 2 years of trying previously.

I miscarried at 9 weeks in the July and conceived again in September x

In December 2024, I had a MMC at 8 weeks, discovered at 12 week scan. We had medical management. Got pregnant again in April and baby is due in January 2026.

Did nothing extra, really. Also, I’m in my 40’s, so this year was very much the latest I was willing to try.

This is such a bittersweet thread. I’m sorry for all your losses, but so happy about all your babies. 💗

I started bleeding at 9 weeks and passed the tissue about 3 days later

I got pregnant in the next cycle and he’s 18 now. We didn’t do anything different but we had just moved into our new home and I felt immediately settled there.

His younger sibling took 2 years to conceive but I was over 40 at that point. And I fell pregnant once we’d given up hope of it ever happening.

DD1 took 16 months, DD2 took 12 months, I then had a surprise pregnancy and MC at around 5 weeks when my daughters were 3 and 6, started TTC again properly, got pregnant 3 years later, then had another MC 3 years to the day of the previous one, at 6 weeks, then somehow managed to fall pregnant just 3 months later and I’m now 33 weeks. Safe to say it’s been a bit of a journey! Good luck and don’t be too discouraged that your previous TTC stint was so lengthy - my story shows just how random it can be.

I had my overactive immune system suppressed by a reproductive immunologist. After many losses, this worked first time!

TwistedWonder · 13/12/2025 00:04

I had a MC at 15 weeks in May 2003 and my DS was born in April 2004 so I was pregnant within 2/3 months

My first trimester was very stressful as I kept expecting the worst. I was lucky to have a doctor who signed me off from work until I was 18 weeks so I could try and relax at home.

Thank you so much for all your responses and sharing your experiences 💕 I hope so much that it happens quickly for me and it’s reassuring that so many have had successful pregnancies following miscarriages, and also helps me to be realistic hearing about others who were successful but took a little longer! I hope I can update this post at some point with good news xxx
