Shock at seven and à half months pregnant

Jennifer48 · 10/12/2025 16:47

I'm seven and a half months pregnant and I give English lessons. Today I walked into the classroom at the usual time- the room was dark, nobody there. Very strange. Then the pupils jumped out from where they'd been hiding- under the desks or behind a piece of furniture, and I got such a shock. I hope I'm worrying over nothing but since then I can't really feel baby move.
Could this shock really have provoked a miscarriage or detrimental impact on the baby?
Thank you in advance.

No.
But if you worried call your midwife.

Blueleaf837 · 10/12/2025 16:48

I really wouldn’t think so, but if you are at all concerned about movement definitely go in and get monitored even if for peace of mind.

Squishedpassenger · 10/12/2025 16:49

Go the hospital please.

CandyCaneKisses · 10/12/2025 16:49

This wouldn’t have caused any harm but if you can’t feel your baby then you should get checked out.

KilkennyCats · 10/12/2025 16:50

No, it really won’t have induced a miscarriage, op.
Women give birth in war zones.

incognitomummy · 10/12/2025 16:51

Go and get checked.
unlikely to be linked but always go to the clinic for a check if you realise baby is moving less.

the shock may have just heightened your senses
hope it is nothing to worry about

Mulledjuice · 10/12/2025 16:52

As above - no this won't have caused anything but if you feel reduced movements go in

Jeska7 · 10/12/2025 16:55

Very unlikely that it’s caused anything. It’s likely that your baby is having a sleep.

However, if you are worried and at any time the baby is moving less, you need to go to hospital to checked out. So go to hospital and make sure everything is ok.

Jennifer48 · 10/12/2025 17:15

Thank you all very much. I texted my midwife and she said exactly the same thing as you all. I'm working until 8pm, I think I ll go to the hospital afterwards.

If you have reduced movements go now. Work isn’t life or death (if you’re a teacher) so sack that off and take yourself to be checked now

Butterbean21 · 10/12/2025 17:18

If you have reduced movement leave work and go in right now. Its nothing to worry about most of the time but there is a reason why they bring you straight in every single time immediately to check you out. Work can deal with the situation, just go.

Interpink · 10/12/2025 17:18

I think there’s far more of a risk attending a germ ridden hospital than there is by just staying home and calm and speaking to your midwife. And as has been pointed out, women have babies in incredibly stressful circumstances, not just one off jumps! Gently, it sounds like you’re VERY anxious.

Edited to add I didn’t see the bit about reduced movements. I hope you can speak to midwife x

PineapplePizzaz · 10/12/2025 17:37

Try having a bit of choc and then wait a little. That’s what the midwife recommended to me before when I had similar worry. Hope all ok x

This isn't good advice. Go straight to the hospital.

I was going to say drink an iced drink as that's what my MW once said to me, but choc may work too. But don't leave it too long if you really aren't feeling movement.

Jennifer48 · 10/12/2025 20:48

Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to reply and advise. I am hooked up to a monitor at the hospital as I type.

Good luck, Jennifer. I'm glad you're being checked out.

Jennifer48 · 10/12/2025 22:58

Thank you, I was reassured by the baby's heart monitoring and the scan this evening. I also had blood taken and will get the results tomorrow evening but I was reassured this evening.
Once again, thank you all.

Glad all is well. What are the bloods looking for?

Cardomomle · 10/12/2025 23:05

Good news, I hope you can relax now.
Have words with the management about what happened, though.

Mayflower282 · 10/12/2025 23:12

Have an ice cold glass of orange juice, that should make the baby move! Worked everytime with mine.

Thunderpants88 · 10/12/2025 23:17

Glad all is well and you had the good sense to be checked out.

my textbook perfect pregnancy went south quickly and first sign was no movement. Ate lots of sweets and a liter of freezing ice water and nothing. A Doppler would have shown a heart beat but the CTG at the hospital was pathological and she was delivered by C-section and resuscitated for 7 minutes.

get checked out every single time

Copperoliverbear · 10/12/2025 23:27

Glad all is well. X

honeyfox · 10/12/2025 23:33

What an awful thing to do to a pregnant woman.

Glad all is good OP.

KimuraTan · 10/12/2025 23:38

Glad all I well but would second to say what a heartless and mean “joke” to play on a pregnant lady. I’d be having words with your admins and headteacher - this isn’t on.
