6 weeks 5 days pregnant… horrendous all day nausea from the second I wake up to the moment I go to bed. Currently taking anti sickness tablets but they only take the edge off slightly.

I had HG with my 3 year old but it’s a lot harder this time, dealing with a toddler whilst being unwell. I’ve already had to take time off work and tell them I’m pregnant.

I know I’m so early that it could be weeks or months until the nausea lifts.

Has anyone else felt similar before?

Very normal unfortunately. If it gets worse maybe try different anti sickness tablets or go into hospital but apart from that nothing will make a difference apart from not being pregnant.

@Lollipoprainbows003 this old thread may give ideas

Hey, same here 😩 I'm now 16+1 and really fed up. Been off work since September. Xonvea has helped a bit but I'm paying for it and it's expensive x

I had the same and only felt better at 13 weeks so yeah you have quite a bit to go . Are you having any support from GP . I had to be signed off sick for weeks as I couldn't stop vomiting. Childcare for my toddler continued as I remained housebound and on home days bedridden. Ironically at the end of my pregnancy when you are big and unweidly and people make allowances for you I felt absolutely terrific.

type100 · 27/11/2025 17:10

OP you arent the first to feel this way and certainly wont be the last so take any pressure off yourself and allow yourself to think this is shit!! Hopefully doing that will take the emotional side out of it and you can just focus on the fact that physically you feel crap. Get yourself down the GP and say that you’ve had this feeling because it feels so bad and you need something else to help you out.
My cousin had HG badly(isn’t it always just bad?) and she was so glad she powered on through, sending you strong vibes, you’ve got this.

cinnamonda · 27/11/2025 17:20

Try having lime and soda drinks, mint in various forms (menthol bonbons, chocolate mint, etc) it will refresh your mouth and help with nausea.
hang in there it should ease off soon.
congratulations on your pregnancy, you are very lucky 🍀

Morecoffeethanks · 27/11/2025 17:34

Ask GP for different medication, and keep asking until they give you something effective. I think ordansentron was my 4th or 5th medication and the only one that proved effective. Also the anti sickness meds sometimes don’t work if you are dehydrated so get down to A&E for fluids if you think you need it.
It really is awful, sorry

Starbells53 · 27/11/2025 17:40

I'd second www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

Push your GP for more support/drugs and take all the help you can get with the toddler. I was medicated, signed off work and I still could cry with gratitude for the friends who fed my older ones a couple of nights a week.

Mayflower282 · 27/11/2025 17:41

Sorry to hear this OP. I had similar all pregnancy and kept getting intrusive thoughts of getting an abortion to stop feeling so ill. It was horrible. The only thing that I could eat without throwing up was lamb shish kebab 😆 You have my sympathy, it’s no fun. I kept feeling sorry for all the people on chemo who must feel like that for years and if it’s terminal that’s the rest of their life 😩 At least there was an end in sight for me after 9 months. Hope you feel better soon ❤️‍🩹

Pearlmaster500 · 27/11/2025 17:42

If it gets worse go to the gp. Get some ginger biscuits plenty of water when that first nausea kicks in it’s vile x

doglover92 · 27/11/2025 17:53

Im 8.5 weeks now and had it awful since 5 weeks. My GP has been really good though and prescribed cyclizine to start with which helped but made me so drowsy I couldn’t cope. He’s now prescribed Xonvea so hoping that works 🤞🏻 I’m signed off sick until later in December because I just couldn’t cope. I’ve just decided I need to try and take all the pressure off, I’m finding it emotionally quite hard as we’ve got loads of stuff planned for Xmas with my toddler that I’m not enjoying, but we’ve just got to remember it’s only for a short period. Feel free to message me if you want to rant about how awful it is with no judgment! ❤️

Rtmhwales · 27/11/2025 17:55

Which sickness medications are you taking? I had to switch between several until the nausea abated enough I wasn’t considering throwing myself off the nearest bridge (seriously).

redblock · 27/11/2025 18:10

I can relate to how you feel as it’s how I felt when pregnant with my son. Cyclizine helped me. Also I found drinking lemonade and eating ready salted crisps in the morning seemed to help!
it is an awful feeling and like you I even contemplated ending the pregnancy over it as I just felt so unwell.
for me the sickness lifted hugely at around 22 weeks.
wishing you all the best.

MotherofPearl · 27/11/2025 18:39

Could you ask for Ondansetron OP? That’s the only thing that helped me. It wasn’t perfect but it made much more of a difference than other medications.

Eat and drink whatever you can bear. I found nibbles of salt and vinegar crisps quite good. And tiny sips of ice cold lemon barley water.

Xiexie · 27/11/2025 18:49

I can relate to how you are feeling. I’m currently 7+4 and feel awful. I’ve been signed off work and have cyclizine and had a few days of metoclopramide (which you can only have for 5 days so limited use really). In my area Xonvea can only be started by specialists so I’m contemplating buying it. I’m already so fed up, I feel like I’m letting work down, letting my toddler down. Yesterday I thought I was going to have to go to hospital because I couldn’t keep anything down at all but today I have managed some water and rice cakes and crisps. I had a missed miscarriage earlier in the year at 10 weeks and had quite a lot of nausea with that (although this is much worse) so feel I’ve already been through it this year. I also have a 3 year old. Really hope you feel better soon, it’s so hard.

Pidgeypidge · 27/11/2025 19:09

What are you taking? I was given cyclizine and something beginning with 'P' that didn't work. Then I was put on Xonvea which worked wonders. If you can get them to prescribe that, it is worth a try.

Kossak · 27/11/2025 19:15

So sorry. Try ginger. Any and all forms, as long as it has real ginger root in it. If it's the fizzy kind, make sure it's one with sugar rather than sweetener. And put a teaspoon into it to take the bubbles out of it which can trigger sickness. You can also get ginger cordial in Lidl or Aldi and mix it with water. It's not a cure, but it does help. And rehydrates you as well.

Foxtrotbeta · 27/11/2025 19:20

People who suggest you try ginger are well meaning but have no understanding of what HG is like.

How long did it last for you last time? I think all.you can do is take the medication and time off work.

I had HG for 39 weeks, ondansetron was the only thing that made any noticeable improvement for me. Cyclizine made no impact and Xonvea was not effective for me either.

If I did it again I'd get signed off work long term.

OfDragonsDeep · 27/11/2025 19:21

It’s the worst ☹️ I didn’t leave the house for months when I was pregnant with my youngest. I do remember vividly one day I was about 20 weeks when I got up and went to do some washing up. I was standing washing up and though, wow I was able to get up and walk over here! I was so happy 😂

Just take it hour by hour, forget about work, keep the toddler in childcare and try and sleep to pass the time. Good luck, I hope it gets better soon. I used to look at the clock during the day thinking ‘that’s one more hour until I’m not pregnant any more’

Minnesota38 · 27/11/2025 19:26

I've no helpful advice but writing in solidarity. I'm 8 weeks gone and feel horrendous, I've no idea how I'm going to cope with this. I've got cyclizine already which helps sometimes but I feel awful, I've had a week off work sick (and was fairly useless before going off) and I'm beyond useless at parenting my toddler too. I keep saying to my partner that I can't do this and we didn't think this through.

InSlovakiaTheCapitalOfCourseIsBratislava · 27/11/2025 19:51

Ondansetron was the only thing I found that made a difference.
Good luck OP. It’s awful. The only consolation is sometimes you can vomit on people who suggest ginger biscuits

InSlovakiaTheCapitalOfCourseIsBratislava · 27/11/2025 19:52

Also , are you on iron tablets? Because that can definitely increase nausea.

LozzaCh0ps · 27/11/2025 20:06

I’m not and have never been pregnant, but I’m prescribed Prochlorperazine (/Stemetil) as an antiemetic which has been life changing for me. You can get a dissolvable tablet (on the tongue) if you’re struggling to swallow things. I’m not sure if you’ve said what you take, but there should be some alternatives that you can try. If you get a period where you can still swallow liquids I find peppermint cordial (preferably the lairy green French one, Le Teissiere it think) better than ginger cordial. I’m sorry things are so miserable for you at the moment x

Terfarina · 27/11/2025 20:15

I really feel for you, I was the same through both pregnancies. No advice other than to get your partner, friends & family to take over so you can rest up as much as possible. My midwife aunt says sometimes a week in bed can sort out sickness x
