Drank Pepsi max in week 4

Hi. I’m 17dpo. Getting positive tests since few days & since day before getting really strong lines.

yesterday went to Pizza Hut to celebrate a few things. I stupidly drank a few sips of Pepsi max from my husbands glass. May be totalling to half a glass or less.

woke up in middle of night with weird stretching sensations in stomach. And read about not drinking diet sodas at all in pregnancy.

im now worried that I have destroyed everything.

did anyone drink diet soda in early pregnancy & went on to have safe pregnancy?

OP posts:

It’s nonsense. The only thing you need to watch is caffeine content. You could drink three cans every day and nothing bad would happen.

DaisyChain505 · 18/09/2025 08:07

This is absolutely nothing to waste a second thinking about.

maryberryslayers · 18/09/2025 08:08

Where have you read that? It's total nonsense.
Refer to the NHS page for reliable information.

BathTealSkip · 18/09/2025 08:10

What? Really don't waste energy thinking about this!

Bjorkdidit · 18/09/2025 08:11

Definitely sounds like nonsense. There's nothing on the NHS website about pregnant women needing to avoid diet soda and in any case, seeing as it's pretty much impossible to buy any 'pop' that doesn't have artificial sweeteners in, you'd have to avoid all sweet drinks, not just diet ones.

Where are you getting your information from?

ApricotCheesecake · 18/09/2025 08:11

This is absolutely fine OP. Don't worry about it for another minute.

Iocainepowder · 18/09/2025 08:12

Lol. It’s more caffeine you need to limit. But i drank diet fizzy drinks throughout pregnancy. It’s fine. I also stuck to caffeine free diet coke.

Allswellthatendswelll · 18/09/2025 08:13

I drank about 2 cans of coke zero a day as it was the only thing that gave me temporary relief from feeling horrendous! Baby perfect!

LorelaiGilmorepoodles123 · 18/09/2025 08:16

I get the worry, but you can't get worked up over a few sips of pepsi, that level of anxiety isn't good for you. You will have aches and twangs, but try not to start googling them.

tripleginandtonic · 18/09/2025 08:17

I had loads of Pepsi max throughout my pregnancies and all was fine.

dementedpixie · 18/09/2025 08:23

What were you reading online??
Nothing wrong with diet drinks. I only ever drink diet varieties and have 2 healthy teenagers now. Caffeine should be limited but not diet drinks themselves

FancyCatSlave · 18/09/2025 08:25

Come on @Chakubaa have a word with yourself. Stretching sensation is normal and I drank diet drinks in pregnancy as I had GD and couldn’t have the sugar.

You are barely pregnant, get a massive grip as otherwise this will be a very long journey. You have plenty of actual things to worry about rather than inventing new ones. If you must worry about something focus on those. Preferably don’t do either.

EBearhug · 18/09/2025 08:29

Loads of women will have drunken diet drinks, drinks with caffeine, alcohol, etc - many won't yet have realised thry are even pregnant yet. It is not something to worry about.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 18/09/2025 08:32

The only time I avoided diet coke/Pepsi in pregnancy was in the evenings later on as the caffeine made my babies kick the crap out of me all night! This won't damage a pregnancy.

Tillow4ever · 18/09/2025 09:19

I drank Diet Coke and Pepsi Max throughout all 3 of my successful pregnancies. I switched to caffeine free as much as possible, but still had all the artificial sweeteners etc. All 3 boys were born at around my due date, a good size and healthy.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, but kindly for your own sanity, try to calm down - the anxiety and stress will be worse for you than a few artificial sweeteners!

Berlinlover · 18/09/2025 09:36

Most ridiculous post I’ve read in a while.

Most ridiculous post I’ve read in a while.

Ah, it isn’t really. Half a glass of Pepsi is of no consequence, but they do recommend caution regarding aspartame in pregnancy.

Swandry · 18/09/2025 09:41

Honestly this is nothing to worry about. Congratulations.

stitty · 18/09/2025 09:41

I had a can of Pepsi max everyday in pregnancy. Baby’s now 7m old!

Edited

Same, but diet coke. There's nothing better than a crisp, cold can of diet coke in the third trimester!

Makingpeace · 18/09/2025 09:42

Don't stress, it's done and it can't be undone but you didn't have much. Try to limit your caffeine intake as far as you can. Congratulations on your pregnancy! Navigating the "do this don't do that" is tricky!

From NHS website:

"You can have caffeine, but no more than 200mg per day. Regularly drinking more than this amount can increase your risk of pregnancy complications, such as low birthweight, and even miscarriage.

There is:

100mg in a mug of instant coffee
140mg in a mug of filter coffee
75mg in a mug of tea (green tea can have the same amount of caffeine as regular tea)
40mg in a can of cola
80mg in a 250ml can of energy drink
less than 25mg in a 50g bar of plain dark chocolate
less than 10mg in a 50g bar of plain milk chocolate"

MummytoE · 18/09/2025 09:42

It's going to be a long nine months

Henbags · 18/09/2025 10:04

I’m sorry, what? This is bat shit. Kindly, get a grip, or it’s going to be a long, long pregnancy.

Janey3090 · 18/09/2025 10:05

Kindly OP, if you are anxious about this you may need some extra support throughout your pregnancy as this isn't even worth worrying about.
