Hi ladies,

I'm new here, but a long-time lurker. I hope nobody minds. I have a history of multiple miscarriage. I've done IVF and I have one last embryo remaining which, all being well, I'll have put back in around 2027.

I was planning to have my last embryo put in around February, but we wanted to do one more investigation to rule anything out. I saw a private gynecologist who specialised in recurrent miscarriage who recommended a hysteroscopy to check for endometritis. I'd never had a hysteroscopy before and it was my first time under GA, I've never been knocked out before. I was terrified, but it really was a piece of piss in the end! The recovery was rough, but I'm so grateful because I've heard hysteroscopies being done without a GA and I doubt I'd have made it through without being knocked out. Anyway, I only went privately because the waiting list for the NHS was just too long and I was told that the NHS's interest in recurrent miscarriage doesn't really exist, leading to lack of knowledge and virtually no funding.

It turns out that I did actually have endometritis. The biopsy came back clear, but the consultant saw textbook endometritis through the camera and prescribed me three very powerful antibiotics.

We need to save up for my last embryo to be put back, and so we just carried on trying naturally in the meantime. I then got a positive pregnancy test in July and I thought it was going to end in another loss, I was more or less expecting it at this point. However, it turns out it was the best £4k we've spent, because for the very first time ever, I got this on Wednesday! I still can't believe it!

(I was 12+3 by last menstrual period, the sonographer measured 12+1 in the scan, so I'm 12+4 today)

Your baby is so cute congratulations x

CC222 · 06/09/2025 18:43

Wow congratulations 💕
I also have a history of recurrent miscarriages and finally had my miracle baby 3 years ago. I bet you’ve probably been feeling a rollercoaster of emotions mixing between worry and pure disbelief. Enjoy the pregnancy as much as you can, don’t let any worry ruin it for you. You’ll have your little miracle in your arms soon enough 💕

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 07/09/2025 13:36

Thank you all! 😍

@CC222 Thank you! I'm so happy you had your baby after so much heartbreak ❤ Oh it's been mad! Emotions have been so mixed. The trouble is miscarriage and chemicals are all I've known and I get pregnant so rarely because my DH has low sperm, so then when I do get pregnant, there is no excitement, only fear and trepidation, it's really sad. Like I don't deserve it, if you know what I mean. It's going to be so hard to not worry, but I will try my best and keep an open mind this time as this pregnancy has got so much further than the previous ones. There are going to be lots of scans because of my history, so hopefully they'll each help to bring peace of mind.

I completely understand. And considering your history it’s very natural to feel fear. But please don’t let that stop you finding some joy in the pregnancy.
I had regular scans too, weekly and more at some points. Obviously that was due to the high risk in my pregnancy but I just tried to focus on the fact I was lucky to see my baby so often and get those regular reassurances in between the worrying updates I had. It helped keep me sane to be honest, because the extreme worry wasn’t good for me at all.
I really hope you’re able to find some joy and excitement soon 💕

UPDATE: 25+2 today and everything fine!

I had a 25 week midwife appointment yesterday. Blood pressure, CO (that breath test thing) and pee all fine. I later had the RSV + DTAP vaccine, which knocked me right on my arse before I went bed. The flu vaccine I got at around 8 weeks was easier to handle by comparison. I'm also finding it much easier to pick up a pee pot as I leave so I can produce a sample before seeing my midwife.

Baby's heartbeat is incredibly strong and healthy, and exactly how the midwife wants it. He's also been walloping me 😁I have come very close to ringing triage a couple of times, as in looking at my phone and going to reach for it, because he's gone so quiet. I get upset and then out of nowhere, he kicks or tickles me! I understand now why it can be so frustrating when the placenta is anterior (like mine), you really cannot feel much at all until about 20 weeks.

I've booked antenatal classes and my hospital bag is taking shape. I can't wait to meet him! 😍

UPDATE: I've returned from my 28 week midwife appointment. Baby is absolutely fine! He even kicked at the Doppler probe!

I have to go to and pick up a prescription for Heparin tomorrow at a local-ish hospital because there was no prescribing doctor at my midwife appointment. It's not for baby, but for me. I scored 3 on the blood clot scale (1. History of DVT in the family, 2. IVF, 3. I'm an older mum). I wasn't expecting to have to do that on Christmas Eve, but it is what it is. Fortunately I finish work at 1300 tomorrow, so I can get going before things get crazy.

All that said, I do have 17 doses of Heparin left from a previous pregnancy that expire 11/2026, so I am wondering if they'll let me start on those before I go back to see my consultant who will prescribe more. I'll ring them tomorrow now as the unit closed an hour ago.

Overall starting my Christmas on a high note. Merry Christmas, everyone! 🎊

Oh that's gorgeous news @YorkshireGoldDrinker! Every single week that passes little one gets bigger and stronger and readier to be born. Have a lovely peaceful healthy Xmas! 🥰

UPDATE: This is more of a follow-up to my last update. Something felt a bit off about the midwife increasing my VTE score to 3, so I contacted triage and explained. I then got a call from my midwife this morning saying I don't need to go on the Heparin for the timebeing as my VTE score is 2 at the moment.

  1. My age.
  2. History of DVT in the family.

The 3rd point would have counted if:

  • This pregnancy is an IVF one.
  • I've had IVF treatment within the last two years.

My penultimate embryo transfer ended in a missed-miscarriage this time back in 2023. My midwife was very apologetic when she phoned and said she knew about the IVF history and just thought my current pregnancy was an IVF pregnancy. No harm, no foul. She held her hands up and thanked me for contacting triage, so no prescription for Heparin to pick up today.

I did also have a blood test yesterday and my midwife let me know that while my iron levels are fine, they could do with a boost, so I'm going to get a prescription for high-dose iron; ferrous sulfate. When I see my consultant ob/gyn on Monday, I'll ask to be prescribed ferrous sulfate.

One last-ditch attempt before Christmas (roads surprisingly not as congested as I thought they'd be); I thought I'd see if could get it off-prescription from a pharmacy, but not so, as they cannot sell it to me for the risk of iron toxicity, which is very bad if pregnant or breastfeeding.

All in all, not a bad day. I feel sleepy now, though, so I'm just chilling out (almost literally, it's very cold where I am tonight) and I'll have a bit of a lie in tomorrow morning. My in-laws are having Christmas lunch at ours, so a lot of preparation is needed.

I hope everyone is keeping well xx

UPDATE: Today was the 5D ultrasound appointment.

My baby is a happy little boy! 💙

I also got a blue teddy bear with a little gadget inside that has a recording of his heartbeat. I hugged the teddy bear when I got home and listened to his heartbeat, and like a soppy sap, I cried. I still can't believe he's real.

I see my ob/gyn on Monday and I will need to get a prescription for ferrous sulphate (bigger dose of iron).

My hospital bag is just one item short of being ready and I'm going to get the travel system very soon.

UPDATE: I had my 32 week growth scan yesterday (21/01) and baby is right on track. My husband and I saw him drinking the amniotic fluid on the screen, so he'll have pee'd that out at some point 😂Everything he does is just so cute and I can't wait to meet him and bring him home!

I'm awaiting the result of a repeat bloodtest for my iron levels. Hopefully the ferrous sulphate has worked, but there is a possibility of needing an iron infusion if it's still not where it should be and they can't figure out why, so fingers crossed the level is where it should be.

UPDATE: I guess not really an update as such, but more of a little story.

Around half past midnight, I woke up really needing to pee. Then out of nowhere I got an intense pain in the my lower back that radiated around towards the front and I've heard that can be a sign of labour. I'm 32+4 today and to go into labour now would be less than ideal for baby. I was panicking and was thinking "I guess this is it!" while shaking in pain and sweating a bit.

I went to sit on the toilet and had a pee, but not much came out, I thought it was because I was in so much pain that I couldn't relax enough. I've also had some constipation recently, so I thought "Could it be be trapped gas?". Right on cue, I pooped! 😂Some wind also. Sorry for the TMI! But basically the pain slowly went away after that. The time was then 0130. A whole hour in pain and in a blind panic. I did want to call triage a handful of times but something kept telling me it wasn't labour.

It turns out that trapped gas is very common in the 3rd trimester, probably because of the constipation as that's very common at this stage, too.

TL;DR I got trapped gas and thought it was baby coming! 😂
