Hi ladies,

I'm new here, but a long-time lurker. I hope nobody minds. I have a history of multiple miscarriage. I've done IVF and I have one last embryo remaining which, all being well, I'll have put back in around 2027.

I was planning to have my last embryo put in around February, but we wanted to do one more investigation to rule anything out. I saw a private gynecologist who specialised in recurrent miscarriage who recommended a hysteroscopy to check for endometritis. I'd never had a hysteroscopy before and it was my first time under GA, I've never been knocked out before. I was terrified, but it really was a piece of piss in the end! The recovery was rough, but I'm so grateful because I've heard hysteroscopies being done without a GA and I doubt I'd have made it through without being knocked out. Anyway, I only went privately because the waiting list for the NHS was just too long and I was told that the NHS's interest in recurrent miscarriage doesn't really exist, leading to lack of knowledge and virtually no funding.

It turns out that I did actually have endometritis. The biopsy came back clear, but the consultant saw textbook endometritis through the camera and prescribed me three very powerful antibiotics.

We need to save up for my last embryo to be put back, and so we just carried on trying naturally in the meantime. I then got a positive pregnancy test in July and I thought it was going to end in another loss, I was more or less expecting it at this point. However, it turns out it was the best £4k we've spent, because for the very first time ever, I got this on Wednesday! I still can't believe it!

(I was 12+3 by last menstrual period, the sonographer measured 12+1 in the scan, so I'm 12+4 today)

Thank you! He's due tomorrow, but I thought I might be able to have my first Mother's Day if he decided to arrive early. No pressure, obviously. I'll see what tomorrow brings xx

I'm 40+1 today. No sign of baby coming yet. He's now officially a day overdue. I'm going to my midwife today who might do a sweep. I'm also pencilled in for an induction on Monday.

You're nearly there.

Thinking of you @YorkshireGoldDrinker! How was your midwife appointment today?

Thinking of you @YorkshireGoldDrinker! How was your midwife appointment today?

Hiya! 😊Thank you! The appointment went okay, but there was an issue raised that makes having a vaginal delivery an absolute no-go. Without going into too much detail, my anatomy down there does not do well with digital examinations, ie fingers. It's in keeping with having to artificially inseminate and extremely painful albeit successful smear test examinations. Smear tests can be done, but the technique has to be 100% perfect with the smallest speculum that exists.

The TL;DR is that I will tear (tear as in pear), badly, if my body is allowed to push. So as soon as I am obviously in labour, I will go in and be promptly taken into theatre. It could even be I'm able to have a planned c-section before labour begins.

How are you? 💙

YorkshireGoldDrinker · 31/03/2026 20:09

UPDATE: Sorry for the delay. It's been really hectic.

Everyone, I'd like to introduce you to my newborn baby son David who was born at 4:09pm on 25/03/2026 weighing in at 7lbs and 10oz!

16 hours of labour, 1 hour of pushing, 1 small tear, one episiotomy, one very sticky placenta (the cord snapped twice trying to pull it out!) that was removed in the operating theatre.

We are all doing very well xx 💙

I think the whole scare of having a vaginal delivery being a no-go ought to be cleared up.

Backstory:

I had a routine midwife appointment and I consented to a sweep at 40+1. Smear tests have always been agony for me, but I have always soldiered through and got the job done, so let's try for a sweep.

I can reach my own cervix with one finger (sorry for TMI!) but introduce a second and I can't tolerate it. The midwife saw me cry and she looked at me in horror each time I said "Keep going, I'll be okay." but she was too frightened to proceed, saying: "No, I can't proceed".

That planted the idea in my head that I could not have a natural delivery. So my mind went full steam ahead to getting a c-section. My mind was flipped right back by a consultant obstetrician at the hospital I delivered at; a major abdominal surgery for a fear of tearing which is more than likely to happen anyway? Overkill. Go for a vaginal delivery, and if a cesarean is needed, it'll be done. So I dutifully stuck to the original plan of having an induction. The vaginal examinations were still very painful, but the midwife taking care of me was able to reach my cervix, despite me yowling. She put in a pessary, then a day later tried a gel and the rest is history.

Midwives' experiences vary across the board, pain isn't nice (understatement) but it is part of life. I'm very glad to have not had to have a cesarean birth simply because why not deliver naturally if you can? I did in spite of staunchly believing I couldn't. Tears are common (as are the other ones that rhyme with hear!). They can be sutured and a full recovery made.

Vaginismus was ruled out on the spot. I'm a small person. Not a lot in life is or has ever been easy for me, including putting anything larger than my forefinger up my whatsit.

Okay, this is getting weird now! 😂
