Pregnancy Advice - Can Anyone Help?

Hello everyone. My partner and I have decided to start trying. We Did the deed on August 22nd during my ovulation. My period is due on Monday 8th September. I would just like to know a few things for future reference if possible?

I have read many bad reviews in regards to First Response tests giving false negatives. Has anyone else had this experience and should I stick with Clear Blue? Also, at what stage do you start to feel pregnancy symptoms and is it normal not to feel nauseous for some women? I feel absolutely nothing and am guessing it hasn't worked this time but could I be too early to feel anything? I'm worried because of the dates that I may take a test next week and it will give a false negative even if I am late on my period.

Thank you in advance for the help!

I don't rate clearblue because the dye can run. I found the sainsburys cheap tests the best - clear lines, no second guessing. Good luck!

I just got the cheap pink dye ones - either from the pharmacy or Poundland. Literally £1 a test of 3 for £1 for the ones you dip in. I got early positives on these. Clear blue are so expensive and not that great x

Hi, I'm not sure on tests these days tbh. My youngest is 13 and I have a 19 year old. I've taken many pregnancy tests over the years and the only 2 I've taken that were positive were the ones with my boys. Negatives can be wrong as it may be too early to detect. The only time I've heard of a false positive is when people have something untoward going on.
As your HCT levels are low to begin with, morning sickness doesn't usually kick in until around 7 weeks, well that was for me anyway and I am pretty sure I read that too. Early pregnancy symptoms can mimic period due symptoms so that is confusing.
For me I had implantation pains too which felt similar to period pains and I worried something was wrong but apparently it's really common.
Good luck. I hope you get the results you want 🙏🏼💖 xxx

Deffo just buy some cheapies, don’t bother with the Clear Blue tests. All you see on here is dye runs or evaporation lines with them.
My symptoms at first mimicked a period, lower back pain, spots, cramping, bloated etc so don’t be discouraged. Then morning sickness kicked in at about 6 weeks 👍🏻 count yourself lucky if you manage to avoid it 😂 good luck 🍀

LER2023 · 05/09/2025 08:03

Test with a pink dye on monday, you can use clear blue but may cause some confusion if it comes up with an evap after the stated timeframe. (5 minutes)
Your symptoms will be the same as a period to begin with which is whay is confusing. Minimal cramps, spotty, bloating. Nausea if you get it, can start as early as 5 weeks. But usually its around 6 or 7 weeks. Mine started at 7 weeks, lasted 3 days and went again🤣 (i got lucky to be honest, i think i threw up once a day in that time) but throughout my oregnancy ive had days where ive randomly been sick, with nasuea starting like half an hour beforehand. Subtle warning from my body😅
Its strange for some, one of my old colleagues told me she wouldnt test positive until 6 weeks gone so would have to have bloods to confirm.
It can take up to a year for a healthy couple to conceive so dont be disheartened if it doesnt happen right away.

Symptoms won't tell you anything. Some people have them, some don't. This pregnancy, just before my test I had period-specific prickly cramps, so was sure it wouldn't be positive. I'm now 14 weeks and never had any symptoms except fatigue and slight boob soreness some days, and bloating. No nausea. It varies from person to person and pregnancy to pregnancy.

I always went with the cheapest bulk tests on eBay and they worked fine.

Superscientist · 05/09/2025 15:54

I've always just bought the cheap supermarket/pharmacy own brand tests.
I test after my period is late - 5 days late for the first 2 pregnancies and got very clear "dye stealers", 3rd pregnancy tested 2 days late and got a convincing positive. First pregnancy gave me my daughter and the other two ended in miscarriage at 10 weeks. At the point of miscarriage with the second pregnancy my HCG was 17000 so well over the limit for the pregnancy tests so wouldn't have been detected by the pregnancy test showing fainter lines.
I didn't have a period between pregnancy 3 and 4 so after a convincing positive with a regular test I bought a weeks detector to estimate how pregnant I was and got a 3+. A scan at the epu this next week dated me at 8+3 pregnant.

From a symptoms perspective I had hyperemesis in the first 3 pregnancies and fatigue. In my latest pregnancy I had barely any symptoms until 32 weeks by which point my body is really struggling with pregnancy so early symptoms don't necessarily indicate a healthy pregnancy in my experiences

Thank you all so much for your help. I definitely know what to look out for and when to test now for an accurate result 🙂 I don't think I'm pregnant this time in this case because the majority of you have all mentioned that I would feel bloated, but I am not. I'll look out for that as a future indicator. I'll Only be a couple of weeks along, if that and IF I am indeed pregnant. That's why I was worried to test so soon on Monday. I will wait and see if my period arrives next week but as I said, no bloating or any other unusual symptoms so I'm guessing I will need to keep trying. Thank you again and good luck with your pregnancies 😊

@AutumnGirlyplease don't give up hope just yet. No 2 pregnancies are the same, even with the same woman. I remember the emotional rollercoaster of trying to conceive. Try to be patient and keep an open mind. Good luck 💖🙏🏼 xx

Superscientist · 06/09/2025 11:58

I knew I was pregnant the first two times because I had no pms at all

Also not related to your question but don't be waiting for ovulation to have sex. Sperm lasts longer than an egg so it's good to have regular sex in the run up to ovulation. I've conceived 4 times in 1-4 months just by having regular sex. I have always said I'd wait 4 cycles before tracking cycles as for me it would get obsessive quickly and wouldn't leave me with anywhere to go if conception was not quick. It's quite normal to take 6+ months

EmilyMay89 · 06/09/2025 22:35

I used Superdrug early ones and that showed a line in the middle of the day at 10dpo! Then the clear blue digital early detection gave me a pregnant same day

AutumnGirly · 08/09/2025 21:00

Well, I tested this morning and it came back positive but it wasn't a solid line so I am going to test again tomorrow and Wednesday 😂 I just think its wrong. Is it common to get a false positive on the first day of your missed period? I'm just not convinced because I have absolutely no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever. I feel fine lol. Its been lovely speaking to you all and hearing g your stories 😊

PS. My last period was August 11th do technically I'd be around 4 weeks pregnant, I believe 🤔

princesseauxchampignons · 09/09/2025 00:01

It’s very rare to have a false positive! Good luck, I hope it’s the result you are looking for :)

AutumnGirly · 09/09/2025 06:33

I just tested again and got another very faint positive. So I'm still confused 😄 I will wait until Friday and test again

OP posts:
princesseauxchampignons · 09/09/2025 06:40

Your hormone levels will increase as the days go on. It’s very rare to get a solid line straight away. I’d say congratulations are in order 🙂

DCmum95 · 09/09/2025 06:53

Two faint positives are a great sign! I didn’t get super dark tests until quite a few days after a missed period. It’s looking good for you xx

Redskyinthedark · 09/09/2025 06:56

@AutumnGirly attach a pic of the tests to your next post here on this thread and we can take a look

Definitely a faint line there!

AutumnGirly · 09/09/2025 11:56

I'll do a digital on Friday to make double sure haha 😄

OP posts:
AutumnGirly · 11/09/2025 07:51

Update. Just done a digital Clear Blue and I am not pregnant. Not sure why I got 2 positives earlier in the week. I still don't have Mt period and have had no bleeding so now I am really confused. I'm never this late on my period. What shall I do? Shall I see my GP?

OP posts:
Redskyinthedark · 11/09/2025 09:05

So either the previous faint lines were dud tests and the latest one is correct (and you're just having a wonky cycle, it can happen!), or it was a chemical pregnancy, in which case I would assume your period will arrive soon.

I wouldn't bother contacting your GP at this point, they won't do anything except possibly another urine test (no more sensitive/better than shop bought ones)

AutumnGirly · 11/09/2025 10:01

I'm absolutely gutted. I really thought I was pregnant

CommissarySushi · 11/09/2025 11:05

I'm sorry. I hope it happens for you soon.
