I'm trying to work out if my weight gain in average or if I'm overeating.

With my first pregnancy I was very overweight/possibly obese and gained even more weight after the birth. I tried hard to lose the weight in order to have a healthier pregnancy however it was tricky because of various birth complications. In the end I opted to take Mounjaro to help with the weight loss. I unexpectedly conceived whilst on Mounjaro and stopped it cold turkey immediately after I found out I was pregnant. I've tried being very sensible in this pregnancy with my health but it's not been easy and my appetite is huge (I'm sure it's more Mounjaro related than pregnancy related).

Anyway I'm trying to figure out how bad my weight gain is and how much will disappear once baby is born. Would you mind telling me how much weight you gained during the pregnancy? Not what you weighed once baby was born but just before baby was born if that makes sens.

I'm 20 weeks and have seem to have gained 8kg

19KG (3 stone) with my first. 22KG (3.5 stone) with my second. Weighed the morning of my c section and weighed when I came home and I hadn’t even lost the weight of the baby! I lost it quickly the first time but struggling more second time around! Went from 9st 7lbs to 13stone and now I’m 10st and shes 16 months. Lost it all within 4 months last time but that was being v strict whereas I’ve been more relaxed this time

quickncncncnc · 14/08/2025 16:46

I went from 71 to 94kg 😁

MidnightPatrol · 14/08/2025 16:48

I honestly can’t see how knowing my weight at that point would have provided any value…

… happily ignored, was thoughtful about my eating and gentle exercise post-birth, and re-engaged with the realities of my waistline about three months later.

I didn’t feel being miserable and anxious about weight gain during pregnancy would be good for me, and I stand by that decision…!!

Zoomzone · 14/08/2025 16:48

Yep I was 8 stone 4lbs and I’ve put on about 3 stone!
however I’m really petite but weirdly everyone says it’s all bump (it isn’t!)
I don’t want to know exactly how much weight I’ve put on and I will not be weighing myself before or after (due next week)
I’ll let it come off naturally and be mindful of food and hope to get some exercise in.

most of my weight went on first trimester as I was hungry all the time. Since around 28+ weeks I haven’t had much of an appetite because of baby

Feliciacat · 14/08/2025 16:51

I went from 90kg (14 stone 3lbs) pre pregnancy to 93kg (14 stone 9lbs) by 29 weeks. I’m hoping not to put on much more but I’m pleasantly surprised I haven’t gained much so far. Larger Mums like me tend not to gain much though cos I already have fat so my body doesn’t need to create more.

iirbRosb · 14/08/2025 16:52

3 stone just before he was born; my hospital trust weighed pregnant women at every appointment which made me feel a bit like a prize cow.

RuLu · 14/08/2025 16:54

4 stone!!

aintnospringchicken · 14/08/2025 17:02

Went from 58kg to 76kg with DC1.I felt like a whale.

Sorry I feel like I've worded it really clumsily.
I suppose what I really wanted to know was the amount of weight gained but only up until just before giving birth. And it's really to understand how much of that weight is to do with all the fluid etc as opposed to actual fat (or maybe muscle!) put on.

I've so far gained nearly 1.5stones - and I'm wondering how much of that is just pure fat.

Because I was on Mounjaro I was weighing myself religiously - so at the start of the pregnancy I was 82kg and this morning I weighed 90.5kg.

Around 15lb is the approximate total weight of a 7lb baby plus other pregnancy related weight gain, such as blood volume, fluid, placenta.
So if you gained not a single gram of fat, and had a normal healthy pregnancy with a 7lb baby, you'd gain about 1 stone. But your body is programmed to gain a few extra pounds on top of this, for breastfeeding stores.

Mumnewname · 14/08/2025 19:50

With my first I went from 49kg to 74kg (I'm short). The difference was enormous, over 50% of my body weight. Got terrible pgp and could barely walk. With my second it was 52kg to 76kg I think, so same again. My pelvis is still a bit shaky even now.

It was basically all water weight. Both babies born bang on average baby weight. Lost it all nearly in the first two months each time by sweating a bathful of sweat each night.

Parker231 · 14/08/2025 19:50

Twin pregnancy - I think I gained about 45lb - it dropped off very quickly and I was back to pre pregnancy weight after 3 months.

SErunner · 14/08/2025 19:54

I gained 9kg with my first pregnancy, 11kg with my second. Weight dropped off within a week first time round. Still the last kg to shift at 5 months pp this time round. I kept my eye on my weight throughout my pregnancy and continued exercising as I didn’t want to have a lot to lose.

AnotherVice · 14/08/2025 19:59

I started at 9 stone, went down to 7.5 due to hyperemesis and ended at about 12! So quite a huge gain. Took 18 months to get back to about 8.5 with breastfeeding.

LoveSandbanks · 14/08/2025 19:59

I only know with my second, I gained 28lb. He was 10lb so I actually weighed myself the day after delivery and I’d lost 20lb. I gain a lot of weight in the first half of my pregnancies but less in the second half.

Mrsttcno1 · 14/08/2025 20:05

An 8kg gain is higher than average by 20 weeks, I think the stats say most pregnant women gain 10-12.5kg during pregnancy with most of that being AFTER 20 weeks.

With my daughter I gained just under 10kg from finding out I was pregnant to the day I gave birth, was weighed when I got to the hospital for meds checks which is how I know. Most of that was gone by my 6 week check at the GP, the rest gone a month or so later. I was active during that pregnancy though so maybe that made a difference, continued running & gym until giving birth pretty much but ate what I wanted within reason.

Currently 6 months pregnant with number 2 and so far have gained 3.5kg ish, another active pregnancy, not being particularly careful about what I’ve ate- definitely more big mac’s than my midwife would recommend!

NotMyRealAccount · 14/08/2025 20:10

I put on 40-50lb with each of mine, nearly all in the second half of pregnancy. I'm short and I carried the extra weight all over and looked like a barrage balloon, but I had uneventful pregnancies, the babies were all average size (between 3.1kg and 3.6kg), and the weight came off easily between babies after I'd stopped breastfeeding. After the last one the weight clung to me a bit but I got it off with a bit of self-denial and exercise when she was 3.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 14/08/2025 20:11

I was 11 stone when I conceived and 12.7 at 9 months pg. I’m 5.10 and didn’t have a huge bump.
24 years later I’m 13.7 …

Aimtodobetter · 14/08/2025 20:16

13 kg came off over the first few weeks following my first birth, 16kg came off over the first few weeks following the second birth. As others have mentioned - I barely lost the weight of the baby in the first few days - but about 2 weeks in I basically peed about 10kg off in 2 or 3 days. I’m bigger and my babies were decent sized so it’s probably a bit more than average. Interestingly for you - in my first pregnancy I had gained more weight than came off but in my second pregnancy I actually lost quite a lot of weight, particularly in the third trimester as I was a following a Gestational Diabetes diet. I asked my OB and he said at my BMI as long as I was eating nutritiously it would be as good or even better for the baby than me gaining weight - and she came out very healthy (4kg) so if you’re worried you could try to cut down carbs heavily now.

Cookingupmyfirstbornson · 14/08/2025 20:18

This I gained 10kg in first pregnancy, was actually told off for losing weight in the first trimester in my second not sure what my final weight gain was. I know I pnly started showing at 24 weeks.

LittleCarrot12 · 14/08/2025 20:21

Not sure on kg but just under 2 stone. baby was 10lbs

jjeoreo · 14/08/2025 20:26

I gained about 12-15kg with all 3. I gained hardly anything until about 20 weeks, then the hunger kicked in. Weight gain isn't always linear. Some women seem to front load, some are steady, some gained most at the end. Unfortunately I did get a bit worked up about it but managed to relax by the end. As they say, "it is what it is". I don't think 8kg is too bad - and you will find it probably does come off afterwards. With my first it fell off quickly because I was manic and depressed. With the other two it was far slower. I'm pretty much exactly the same weight now I was when I got pregnant with no. 1. I think you'll be fine but if you can, try not to worry too much about it as it's pretty pointless.

anythingbutlillies · 14/08/2025 20:28

The day DC was due - 22 years ago- I was at a routine MW appointment, she thought I was mad when I asked her to weigh me! I didn't own scales - still don't - and was curious.
9st 2lb. Safe to say I weigh more than that now!

Justsayno123 · 14/08/2025 20:30

Gained 22lbs with both. Both the same size (8lbs 9oz). Back to usual weight and BMI (19) within 6 weeks of both (of course not usual body as I now have a baggy tummy and saggy boobs). Honestly, I just watched my weight throughout and didn't gorge myself, but then I don't in normal life either.
