Hi all,

Currently 30 weeks pregnant and trying to decide whether to give birth naturally or have an elective C-section.

Curious to hear of other women's experiences of elective C sections - positive and negative!

TIA x

I'm a ftm and I'm opting for ELCS due to previous sexual trauma. Is that wild?

That was my reason. And it was a good decision. Best wishes, @MNpenisadvisor.

No regrets, while I wouldn’t call it a lovely experience as some do, the procedure was over quickly and the healing process was almost pain free, I was back to walking a few days later and exercising after my 8 weeks check. I sometimes wonder if I could have had a positive vaginal delivery, but most of my antenatal class did not and are now looking into birth debriefs to come to terms with their birth while I never felt that I had anything I needed to come to terms with.

Just want to add to this conversation. My c section led to secondary infertility. It was a planned elective c section - advised because the baby was measuring big and I wasn’t engaged at 39 weeks. Turns out I was left with a small but symptomatic “niche” which is like a pocket in the scar which collects blood and mucus and causes implantation failure. Niches are very common (up to 70% of people have them following c sections). Most don’t cause problems. The medical community are remarkably ignorant about them- mine has taken nearly 2 years to diagnose even though my symptoms were textbook and I have seen multiple specialists. I have recently had a procedure to correct it but there is no guarantee it will work of course. I don’t want to scare people as most c sections are fine and I was told I was unlucky to have this happen after only one c section (much more common after multiple c sections). However, more and more people are having elective c sections and I don’t think many people are aware there are real risks like there are with any surgery. You don’t think it will happen to you until it does.
