Bleeding at 7 weeks

TheWiseTealTurtle · 01/08/2025 13:19

Hello, I am currently 7 weeks pregnant and have had on and off bleeding, just a tiny bit when I wipe usually brown. I have had dull stomach ache pretty much the whole time I have been pregnant. I went to the loo again and noticed bright red blood when I wiped and a tiny clot (smaller then a pea) on the tissue. This happened a few times this morning and it has eased up. Never enough to need a pad. I saw the Dr this morning who basically said to keep an eye on it and if I am in lots of pain, or shoulder tip pain I need to go to hospital. She didn't recommend needing a scan as she said it could go either way. So I will keep an eye on it, just when I read on here people tend to have an ultrasound if they bleed but maybe they are bleeding more then I have done. And she said to take another test too that says the weeks so I will pick one up later.

I have cervical ectropion which caused bleeding every few days until week 20 in my second pregnancy!
bleeding is common. Can be implantation too.
I went for internal scans and weirdly enough did not bleed after those

HansBanans · 01/08/2025 13:43

Can you contact your local EPU? It’s generally them that would bring you in for an early scan rather than the GP

MayBabyMum · 01/08/2025 13:43

I bled on and off in the first trimester. It was scary. Apparently 1 in 4 women bleed in pregnancy but if you are concerned then you can ask for a scan. You should be able to see the heartbeat by 6 weeks. Depending on where you are - in the UK you can ring the maternity line and they may book a scan for you

CoffeeandSpaniels · 01/08/2025 13:54

Go to your local early pregnancy unit, they might not scan you straight away, but can do your bloods to check your hormone levels. If you're not sure how to contact them, go to a&e and tell them you have pain and bleeding and they will refer you. (That how it works with my local hospital, you can't self refer to EPU)
The GP is right but waiting is awful. It doesn't necessarily mean something bad is happening but reassurance could be helpful

LSADM · 01/08/2025 13:54

I had bleeding in 2 of my 3 pregnancies, the first pregnancy sounded like yours the 3rd was horrendous, (They’re 20 and 10 years old now.) I had huge gushes of blood with clots. They happened quite a few times up to 9 weeks. I did have early scans with both which showed absolutely nothing wrong. Crazy as I was full on hemorrhaging 😳 Give your local EPU a call. I went to A+E with my 3rd who referred me.

Hope everything is ok 🤞🏻

Couldntthinkofausername24 · 01/08/2025 13:54

Do you have any early pregnancy unit at your hospital. They will absolutly want to see you. Give them a ring. You will likely be scanned. Hope all is well. My mum had a monthly period for 9 months when pregnant with me

FlayOtters · 01/08/2025 13:54

You need to speak to your local EPU (early pregnancy unit) who will scan you. I had bleeding between 6 and 10 weeks with both of mine and both were absolutely fine but it is really worrying at the time x

doglover90 · 01/08/2025 13:57

You might have a subchorionic hematoma which is absolutely nothing to worry about most of the time. Definitely get in touch with your early pregnancy unit and they will be able to provide more specialised advice than the GP.

ShallIstart · 01/08/2025 13:58

I bled in both my pregnancies which were fine in the end. Its scary. I don't thinknyou can tell anything right now or do anything except get the drs opinion. I went to maternity a and e and had a scan though.

ChristmasMiracleBaby · 01/08/2025 14:16

No one can say what the outcome will be but for what it's worth I've had bleeding on and off the whole pregnancy and I'm 19 weeks.
Pretty sure it's just a sensitive cervix as I'm only bleeding if I exercise or go to the toilet for a number 2.
I had similar with my first pregnancy and ds was born healthy, so I think some women are just prone to bleeding.

PigeonDuckGoose · 01/08/2025 14:19

Please call your early pregnancy unit.

Bleeding at this stage (if red, so not old blood) is not implantation bleeding.

However it doesn't necessarily mean the worst. Unfortunately early pregnancy varies for everyone and you will get both positive and negative stories on here.

I can literally tell you I have had 4 pregnancies with bleeding before. 2 miscarriages, 1 ectopic and 1 where it stopped (current pregnancy, 30 weeks ATM).

I've also had 2 miscarriages where I had no bleeding.

So really only a scan can tell you if all is ok. At this stage it will likely be an internal scan.

Also do not use a pregnancy test to check anything at this stage. That's poor advice from the GP. It will flag positive regardless of what's going on and weeks indicators can be wrong. (Again I have had positive with correct weeks but was miscarrying, and one with wrong weeks and a healthy pregnancy!).

Sorry you have to go through this I know it is stressful.

Fairyladyonwheels · 01/08/2025 14:19

This is how my miscarriage started, 2 weeks later I miscarried. You need to get checked out especially if you are having a dull ache which i had as well.

Welshmonster · 01/08/2025 14:19

There are plenty of stories where everything worked out but 1 in 4 pregnancies end so please just rest now and wait. The waiting is so hard but there is nothing that can be done at this early stage.
EPU may agree to see you but it’s Friday and you may have to wait until next week. You can pay for a private ultrasound so see what is local to you. This may give you some comfort over the weekend.
you can ask your doctor to do bloods to see if pregnancy hormones are rising. They will be a couple of days apart.

if you get a fever or feel unwell then do call 111 as an ectopic pregnancy can cause serious damage.

GP saying do another test is not helpful. I was still showing as pregnant 10 days after miscarriage as I had a tiny piece of something left.

sending you massive hugs but do rest now and tell a close friend or family member and get them to help you by bringing a meal over so you can rest or just talk to. You don’t need to keep it secret until 12 weeks

ThisZanyPinkSquid · 01/08/2025 14:47

I have had bleeding in 2 of my pregnancies. One unfortunately did end in miscarriage and one results in my healthy baby boy (now 7).

With my son it was a extroption (not 100% on that spelling 😂) on my cervix that would periodically bleeding during my pregnancy but everytime I called the midwives were amazing!!

Call early pregnant unit it could be a number of things. My friend had a haematoma that was stuck under the placenta and she passed that (quite heavily) about 8/9 weeks.

SnappyDenimHedgehog · 01/08/2025 15:13

I had bleeding at 8 weeks you need an ultrasound i was sent for one straightaway . A tiny part of placenta was unattached, went on to have a full pregnancy and the biggest baby ever at 11lb 7 natural birth, I'd go to hospital straightway.

sarhumph1 · 01/08/2025 15:40

I had a heavy bleed at 9w. It was like a flood and I went through two pads. I was absolutely terrified. My midwife booked me into the EPAU and I had a scan. There was nothing wrong and they had no idea what the bleeding was or what caused it. My boy is a strapping 14 year old now 😁
Good luck, hope all goes well for you 😘

Bumblefuzz · 01/08/2025 16:54

This happened to me at 7/8 weeks. I was visiting my parents at the time. My mum's GP referred me to the EPU & they did an internal scan & pregnancy tests which showed everything okay. They told me to rest for a week & then essentially get on with my life (in a very reassuring way) as what would be would be. She's 15 now.

TheWiseTealTurtle · 01/08/2025 19:59

Thanks everyone for your advice and support. The bleeding has got heavier enough to half fill a pad in a few hours and my tummy hurts more then before. Phoned 111 and a GP is calling me back. Not feeling particularly hopeful unfortunately

Hoping everything works out for you & they get you in for a scan so you know either way. It’s the not knowing that’s the hard bit :(

Thank you. I spoke to the GP last night and she didn't suggest a scan, just that I need to wait and see. From what she was saying I think she implied its more likely a miscarriage and to potentially expect a heavy period and to take a pregnancy test in a few weeks to see. But reading some of these posts do give hope it may all be fine so I am not sure. I would say that during this pregnancy I didn't 'feel pregnant' I had no nausea or sore boobs, just a missed period and positive test

I just went to the loo, no tummy pain but there was a long red stringy thing that came out followed by a sac/ clot (I was scared to look too close) about the size of a large coin. Feeling very sad, I know it's common just you don't think it will happen to you

I’m so sorry to read this. Contact your early pregnancy unit for sure. Sending positive thoughts xx

Sorry to here this, please do still contact EPU as they can scan to check there is no remaining tissue.

A pregnancy test can flag positive for quite some time after a loss (even without retaining tissue).

When I lost twins it took nearly 4 weeks to get negative test.

TheWiseTealTurtle · 02/08/2025 15:04

Thank you. Looks like the EPU is closed for the weekend. I phoned 111 as I have been having intense lower back and tummy cramping in waves and passing more blood. Dr is calling me back, still advised to only take paracetamol but ibuprofen would be good to take if I knew for sure it was a miscarriage but at this point I would be hugely surprised if it wasn't!
