Hey ladies , I’m in my first trimester and the last week or so it’s just been bad nausea and gagging. Today it’s on to full blown vomiting :( I’ve completely went off food and water , only thing that I’m managing right now is Jacobs crackers , which I know i need to eat more . what are best foods for sickness ? Tia

Just whatever you can manage, don’t worry about eating healthily or getting enough calories for now, it won’t affect the baby at this stage.
I lived off dry plain crackers, ginger biscuits, breadsticks and some plain food like mash, cheese sandwiches and chips. I found I did better eating my main meal at lunchtime than just something plain for dinner.
If you feel like you’re really struggling to even drink enough though do speak to your midwife or GP because you are risking getting dehydrated and might need to go on anti nausea medication.
Good luck! It does usually get better around 12 weeks

Honestly, the best foods are just those that you fancy and can keep down. Forget what you should be eating right now. Hydration is important - ice lollies? Take your prenatal vitamins and whatever else you can stomach is a bonus. Hope it passes soon!

a little bit of mash I’ve been able to manage too just has to be bland!! But I’m glad it doesn’t affect them this stage cause it’s rough 🤣 thank you !

I know the hydration is most important this stage and that’s the bit I’m struggling with the most because I’ve went off water and I’m normally a water drinker :( I’ve tried flavoured water but it’s coming back up , a Glass of coke is what I’ve been managing. Ice lollies sound like a good idea ! Thank you !

I always found plain cream crackers and clear apple juice worked for me.

Inthesmallclouds · 05/07/2025 12:01

Get your GP to prescribe anti sickness meds it really helps.

MrsSethGecko · 05/07/2025 12:01

Farley's Rusks and black tea were the only things that I could handle!

Wednesdayonline · 05/07/2025 12:42

I ate chips and dry plain cake for a full week 😅 ice cold water seems to be easier to drink than tap water.

ShesTheAlbatross · 05/07/2025 12:43

Anti sickness tablets.

But Granny Smith apples, and salt and vinegar crisps helped me a bit. The apples seemed to settle my stomach a bit (although I’d be nibbling the same one for hours), and the crisps cut through the horrible taste in my mouth

Just a warning on the apple juice, I know everyone is different but anything sugary made me reaaaally sick!

No I get you! I was only able to stomach coke for a bit there and now I think it’s the culprit 🤣

I know this will sound weird but sherbet really helps
settle your stomach. I was very sceptical when it was mention on here previously but I was desperate to try anything and actually worked a treat. Think love hearts, sherbet Dip dabs etc. I found rich tea biscuits, ready salted crisps and full sugar coke to really help. Weirdly ice pops too!

I also second everyone else; eat what you can stomach right now. Don’t worry at this stage about it being healthy and nutritious - that can come later once you’ve weathered the 1st trimester battle!

I found the nausea worse when my stomach was empty so I grazed constantly… biscuits by the bed for during the night/waking up in the morning.

I hope you find what works for you quickly!

Moosey898 · 05/07/2025 13:02

Until this week I could only stomach ice cold drinks, or hot cups of tea. Anything else would make me feel horrific! Eat whatever you can - I found rice cakes worked well for me, along with toasting waffles (plain) and just bread with salted butter.

Superscientist · 05/07/2025 14:52

Play around with different drinks. With my daughter I could only manage warm water and honey with another pregnancy it had to be something thick like a smoothie or soup

NancyJoan · 05/07/2025 14:57

Bland bland bland. White pasta, toast, bananas. I ate packets and packets of small M&S iced buns. Nothing green.

Hadalifeonce · 05/07/2025 14:59

Ginger nuts and small sips of flat coke.

kmurray1 · 05/07/2025 15:02

Cold milk

RaspberryRipple2 · 05/07/2025 15:11

Whatever you fancy. I pretty much only ate bagels with Nutella and boiled eggs and soldiers along with anti sickness tablets and 1 can of full sugar coke or Dr Pepper per day with my second pregnancy, she’s perfectly fine. I tried to eat healthily first time around but it just made me sick more, so whatever you can stomach is fine. my trigger was the smell of cooking, so anything home cooked that smells was basically out.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 05/07/2025 15:14

Im normally a voracious water drinker but it made me vomit in my first pregnancy.
Little sips!!!
Found tea easier to stomach whether black tea or herbal tea (check which are suitable for pregnancy, some aren't!)
Dont get too hungry or too over full.
Eat whatever you can stomach, dont worry about the nutritional value right now.
Crackers are amazing.
Bland food.
Yoghurt.
Avoid greasy food (unless you're specifically craving it of course!)

RabbitsRock · 05/07/2025 15:32

Think I’d advise against too much apple juice as it’s quite acidic

hyperemesishelp · 05/07/2025 15:38

I’ve been having sips of Coke and lucozade today. Prior to pregnancy I had a lot of coffee so had been getting bad headaches I think due to the sudden lack of caffeine so it’s helping that. I’m on antisickness medications which I’m hoping will help. You could maybe try dry toast or plain biscuits ? I know people say ginger but that made me even worse

xWildFlowerx · 05/07/2025 17:32

Whatever you can manage! With DS1 and DS2 I was able to eat as normal but with DD I had really bad food aversions and was literally never hungry. I only managed to eat plain pasta, chips with cheese and cheese rolls most of the pregnancy. Very rarely I would also eat something random like sour haribo.

Ellamaee · 05/07/2025 18:21

Thank you everyone ! I’m starving but nothing seems nice if that makes sense ? Really fancy some sausage and mash but thinking about it actually makes me heave . I really can’t eat or drink anything 😭
