Hey ladies , I’m in my first trimester and the last week or so it’s just been bad nausea and gagging. Today it’s on to full blown vomiting :( I’ve completely went off food and water , only thing that I’m managing right now is Jacobs crackers , which I know i need to eat more . what are best foods for sickness ? Tia

I couldn't tolerate bland food. To me it tasted like vomit so I struggled to eat anything that tasted the same going down as back up.
I did better with fresh foods. With my daughter it was tinned peaches in other pregnancies cherry tomatoes and celery.

I found ice cold water easier to drink when my sickness was bad. Honestly just eat whatever you can. My first pregnancy I lived off pepperoni pizza and bacon sandwiches for weeks. If I tried to eat veg I'd be vomiting before I'd even finished chewing 😂

It got better after around 20 weeks and I could eat most things again. I hope it passes soon for you.

I found anything really cold helped the nausea, really cold cola or ice lollies (but they couldn’t be too sweet) where the only thing I could stomach, anything else made me gag, I feel for you. 1st trimester nausea is relentless and exhausting

I lived off dry rice Krispies for weeks!

Once I began to be able to keep some things down, it was ready meals as that reduced the cooking time (the cooking smell had me vomitting).

Definitely see your GP for meds - especially if you can't keep fluids down.

I was going to say ginger biscuits. Keep having a sip of any drink. You need to make sure you get enough fluids, especially in this hot weather. Xxx

OP sucking ice cubes can help with hydration (though when I couldn’t even keep that small amount of liquid down I got badly dehydrated, was hospitalised for two days and diagnosed with HG).

After I was on anti-sickness medication the drink I found bearable was ice cold lemon barley water with loads of ice.

Jelly can be good too, especially as it’s not too bad on the way back.

Just go with whatever you can keep down. I loved nibbles of salt and vinegar crisps.

I found it helped to eat something very plain before I even got out of bed, so DH would bring me cornflakes or a digestive biscuit first thing. I then ate little and often throughout the day. I was hospitalised with my first two as I just wasn't keeping anything down, but with my third this little and often seemed to help.

Everyone is different. With me it was scrambled eggs and tomato soup. Find what works for you.

teatimefortiger · 05/07/2025 19:37

Croissants (fresh ones) & ready salted hula hoops for me

teatimefortiger · 05/07/2025 19:39

Oh and ginger tea was rank but it did work. I made cups of it, let it go cold and then necked a cup to drink it. Was vile but did alleviate the nausea when I couldn’t eat biscuits.

In case no one has mentioned it: SEE YOUR GP!!! ASAP! Don't let the dragon receptionists dissuade you. Put on your big pants.

Extreme pregnancy sickness is a known issue and there are good treatments for it.

Don't tolerate trying to guess which foods you can eat or whether you can keep a glass of water down. It's not a game, it's your baby's future.

RT1620 · 05/07/2025 20:28

Hot water and lemon really helped settle my stomach. I would sip on it all day x

Oreoqueen87 · 05/07/2025 20:35

I had hypermesis, you totally have my sympathies! When I got really bad I’d do BRAT - bananas, rice, apple sauce or apples and toast. Not together obviously! That was if things were really awful, and they always stayed down. Fridge cold apple baby food was an easy go to, as were lemonade iceblocks. Make sure any rice is freshly cooked.

Honestly just eat what you can when you can at this stage. My baby is a thriving six year old who may or exceeded every milestone

stample · 05/07/2025 20:47

I genuinely used to eat banana biscotti when I had morning sickness with my 2nd. When preg with my 1st I would eat ginger nut biscuits and drink warm ginger and lemon water

InSpainTheRain · 05/07/2025 20:51

Farley rusks, Kacobs crackers, thin ginger nut biscuits and breadsticks were all good for me!

Seeline · 05/07/2025 20:54

My eldest is nearly 24 years old. I still can't face ginger biscuits 🤢

eleanorfalling · 05/07/2025 21:01

I had HG with one of mine. Really agree with going to the GP esp if you are not keeping liquids down. Cereal is good if you manage it (even without milk). Instant noodles? Babybel? Anything really bland.

really don’t worry about the baby - all the Drs reassured me that they would get what they need from the nutrients already in my body + in pregnancy your body can be hyper efficient. so hydration is the thing that really matters.

TwilightSkies · 05/07/2025 21:03

Salty crisps, pot noodles, Rice Krispies. Bland shite was all I could keep down for a few months.
