Hey! I’m 26 weeks, 4 days pregnant and haven’t felt my baby kick yet? I get like little twitches in my tummy which makes me think that’s baby moving? I do have a plecenta at the front

Might be very normal, particularly with anterior placenta, but it would be worth talking to your midwife about it, and perhaps arranging a scan just to see that the growth is fine and baby is moving well on screen. I’m sure others will be along with their own experiences to share :)

PlantDoctor · 24/06/2025 00:54

My DD mostly did the weird wriggling feeling. It is a very strange sensation! Can you feel it through your stomach if you put your hand there?

lilacbreeze · 24/06/2025 00:57

Not normal, you should have felt baby move long before now. If you haven’t felt a baby kick before 24 weeks it’s important you ring the doctor or midwife. I would be getting an emergency appt first thing.

Xwx1010 · 24/06/2025 04:17

Assuming you’ve just had your 25w midwife appointment? What did they say?

SErunner · 24/06/2025 04:20

I would speak to your midwife. It is probably all fine but to be 26 weeks and not be feeling definitive movements is unusual. Feeling less movement with an anterior placenta is a bit of a myth, it shouldn’t make that much difference.

Why’s it a myth? Literally every midwife and consultant I’ve seen had told me it will be more difficult to feel early on and may be more around 22-24w before feeling definitive movement.

I’ve been in and out of l hospital though.. on the monitor and had multiple scans! Baby is growing absolutely fine! There’s no issues..

Every midwife and consultant I saw told me it was a myth. Anecdotally I felt my second (with an anterior placenta) much earlier than my first and wouldn’t say the movements felt any different during the pregnancy 🤷‍♀️

Xwx1010 · 24/06/2025 07:22

@SErunner some people may have more trouble or it takes longer to feel movements - others like yourself, less so - I don’t think that qualifies it as a ‘myth’.

flibbertigibbetty · 24/06/2025 07:32

Similar to me with anterior placenta but do chat to midwife

er, that’s bullshit. It’s not a myth at all

flibbertigibbetty · 24/06/2025 07:34

I had anterior placenta and apart from one random early kick didn’t feel any movement till 24 weeks or so

SErunner · 24/06/2025 08:10

I’m just recounting what I was told by medical professionals, appreciate you are too.

SErunner · 24/06/2025 08:13

@Xwx1010yes of course, what you say is true regardless of where the placenta is sited

That’s good but you still should get checked x

Xwx1010 · 24/06/2025 11:17

Op I think it’s still worth another check or speaking to your midwife. You can call them before your appointment if needed.

I’m 20w anterior placenta too and alls I’ve felt is some gas like popping when I put my hand on my bump after eating . Midwife and consultant said placenta is right across the front and low so I won’t feel obvious movements for another few weeks yet. Everyone else I know (aside from se runner in the thread) has said the same about AP and it talking abit longer and it being less pronounced but I agree I still think it’s worth reaching out for some advice from midwife given you’re 27w.

Every baby is different. Ignore the post that says its a "myth". ONE persons experience with whatever medical professionals they've seen vs everyone else/online articles/NHS website.

As long as you feel movement, baby should be ok. If youre worried, go into triage and they can check babys heartbeat for you.

I didn't feel "movement" until 16 weeks. Even then, I would go 5/6 days without feeling any further movement.

First kick i felt was at 21 weeks but it was so gentle and if I wasnt actively focusing on my belly (it was really late at night and i was in bed), i would have missed it.

I only felt prominent kicks maybe 29 weeks. If i was walking or busy during the day, id feel nothing at all. Even now at 34 weeks, sometimes baby kicks the placenta and I dont feel nothing but i can see my belly move.

If you are ever concerned, dont hesitate to call triage.

Whilst well intended, your post is far more dangerous than mine. Mine errs on the side of caution saying it shouldn’t be assumed you feel less movement just because you have an anterior placenta. Yours is suggesting so long as you feel anything it should be fine, which is not good advice. You have said yourself you were feeling movements every few days 10 weeks before the gestation the OP is currently at, and that this settled into some sort of pattern and became more obvious as the weeks went on. This is totally different to what she is describing.

OP in your scenario I would be contacting triage. The majority of people regardless of placenta position would be feeling regular movements by 26 weeks. The fact you aren’t is worth getting checked out and receiving further advice from trained professionals, not people on Mumsnet. It is better to be cautious in relation to movements rather than assume things are okay. Triage won’t mind you calling - this is what they are there for and what saves babies lives when something is in fact wrong. I am sure in your case all is fine, but for peace of mind and just to make sure, I would suggest calling.

Not yet! Not till Friday

I would not be waiting until Friday if your last checkup was over a couple of weeks ago or more (so when you were 24 weeks gone or before). Things can go wrong quickly (not saying anything with you is wrong) and being at 26 weeks with no proper movement/kicking is not considered normal, I would go as far to say it can constitute an urgent appointment. Just to be absolutely sure.

I mentioned on two occasions that should she have any concerns, she should go to triage.

OP says she has twinges, not kicks. I'm merely stating i had movement but no strong / noticeable kicks until much later.

Babies don have regular patterns until 24 - 30 weeks so the lack of kicks isnt a huge concern as her baby is moving.

I'll say it again @ OP - any concerns, always call/go into triage

SophieRules · 24/06/2025 18:50

I have an anterior placenta and don’t think I felt anything really significant until 26 ish weeks plus.

Oh right well if she’s kicking and all was fine Sunday I would say there’s nothing to worry about. Your OP said baby hadn’t had a proper kick.
