Give it time. Our DD was on meds and reflux formula and it took a week or so to work.
Reflux is horrible. Xxxxx

ladymalfoy45 · 14/05/2025 20:44

Also, has your baby been diagnosed with reflux?

Yes have been to the dr’s twice.
sibling also had reflux which was left unmediated and resulted in a total bottle aversion.
would like to avoid medications like omeprozol ect If at all possible though due to side effects.

I can only suggest that you continue with the formula then.
Has your doctor diagnosed 'failure to thrive' or reflux?
Our Doctor told us it was reflux but the 'failure to thrive ' diagnosis got us into the hospital within an hour.
The nutrients in the formula won't be present in goats milk.
I'm sure as you've experienced this with your eldest child you have the experience.
Our DD was hospitalised due to reflux and was given two meds.
She's 11 now and thriving.

My 4 month old is goat milk due to cows milk intolerance however the reflux is still bad

Mummy2925 · 14/05/2025 22:01

@ladymalfoy45 well the first dr told me all baby’s have reflux and sent me on my way, I refuse to believe it’s normal for a baby to vomit not spit up, wriggle in pain during feeds constantly coming off the bottle, won’t tolerate laying flat and constantly swallowing so I went to a second dr and they agreed it’s reflux and prescribed gaviscon.

went through hell and back with my first lo’s reflux having no one listen multiple dr and a&e trips 😭

goats milk formula has all the same nutrients as cows milk formula it’s just easier to break down hence me thinking if it was digested quicker would there be less regurgitation?

@Adamsapple89 goats milk has the same protein make up as cows milk , possibly might be why? Reflux is horrible 😭

Cows milk has A1 and A2 protein whereas goats milk just has A2 so it’s recommend for sensitivities to cows milk. She was different child after screaming for 8 weeks when I swapped her over. However the reflux is still so annoying, the amount of bibs we go through 😩

midlandsmummy123 · 14/05/2025 22:14

you can get special formula Aptimil do anti-reflux and lactose free but its more expensive, we switched to oat milk as soon as dd was old enough.

Mummy2925 · 14/05/2025 22:22

@Adamsapple89 ahh I didn’t know that 🙈 HV told me they were the same 🙈 you learn something knew every day🙈
we’re the same and outfit for both me and baby 😫
is your lo in much pain with it 🥺

@midlandsmummy123 havnt had much suscess with the anti reflux with last baby only made there vomit thick and choke plus it’s relatively the same concept as the gaviscon which thickens the feed in there tummy opposed to anti reflux milk which thickens in the bottle and goes back to thinner consistency in the tummy

Has baby been checked for a tongue tie?

Shhhhitsmagic · 14/05/2025 22:48

Both mine had reflux, 1st child we used the pre-mixed bottles for a few weeks as apparently they're easier to digest and then switched to kendamil once she could handle it. Found these options more effective than anti-reflux milk.

2nd baby's was much more severe (linked to a hole in her heart). We were given lansoprazole and it really was life changing. We didn't notice any side effects and it enabled her to get the milk down. She was a severe case though. Sorry I can't comment on goats milk, we didn't try this.

Superscientist · 15/05/2025 12:52

What is your concern about omperazole and similar?
It's not an easy decision to give your baby medicine but my daughter has been on omperazole since 8 weeks and is nearly 5! She's had no side effects or consequences of being on it but it has greatly improved her quality of life. This has become more apparent as she's gotten older and she can articulate the pain of her reflux.
No experience of goats milk, by the time my daughter went on to formula her extensive allergy list meant she went straight on to prescription formula

Mummy2925 · 15/05/2025 13:08

@Superscientist hv said it can be linked to eye sight issues , that she knows a little boy who was on it from a very young age and he needs regular eye screens due to being on it ☹️

Hmm in over 4 years of paediatric care under 3 different paediatrician this has never ever been mentioned! I've just checked the patient information leaflet and blurred vision is mentioned but it's in the very rare category.
The need for this baby to need eye sight checks may have been unrelated to the omperazole.
It took a long time for my daughter to get up to a dose that helped as her gp was under medicating her, she just told me reflux was a washing problem, and in this time she became behind developmentally due to the distress of the under treated reflux. Some times in life there are consequences of not giving medication as well as giving it.
My daughter is on another reflux medication which her doctors are much more cautious about as it can have harmful side effects so that medication is kept as low as required but the omperazole has been classed as something safe for her to be on long term. She's always on the highest dose for her age too. It might be worth a chat with your GP about the pros and cons

l gave my daughter goats milk formula 12 years ago after she had been so uncomfortable for 7 weeks. I desperately tired to breastfeed but ended up using formula and she was prescribed gaviscon which didn’t help. She was a different baby after just one bottle.
She still had reflux but she was happy on the goats milk and not uncomfortable. At the time, goats milk formula wasn”t licensed for use as formula in this country but my health visitor told me that whilst she couldn’t officially tell me to use it, she worked in a hospice as well and they gave it to sick children.
i decided that I was happy giving my baby organic goats milk from New Zealand (where it was licensed) and whilst it was expensive, I finally had a settled, comfortable baby.

Yes. It fixed their eczema, their reflux and the blood in the poo too. Its magical stuff. Nanny care

Theresahairbrushinthefridge · 15/05/2025 18:21

My information may be totally out of date but have you tried lactose free formula or formula for cows milk intolerance.

DD1 now 19 had the most appalling reflux and sickness until about 3 years old. I was completely fobbed off and ignored by professionals. She was better on goats milk but not fine.

DD2 was diagnosed with lactose intolerance at 6 months. As was my husband at the same time.

My son was the same.

I feel like I tortured poor DD1 with my ignorance and lack of support from professionals.

SeedyM · 15/05/2025 18:24

Yes with my now 11 year old. Once we established she had silent reflux the nhs dietician put her on a special milk which turned her poo green and made her so smelly and gassy you could barely stay in the room with the poor mite. It didn’t do much for the reflux either. So did some of our own research and started using goats milk formula which you could only buy in Waitrose at the time. She was so much better in a matter of a couple of days. We kept her on it until she was weened. It was really expensive but v worth it for her. The health visitor was absolutely horrified because at the time it hadn’t been approved for under 6 months old (she was I think about 7 weeks) but had been approved in Australia and NZ so we were happy to try it. She didn’t have any issues with dairy as a toddler.

FloHou · 15/05/2025 18:32

My baby had reflux symptoms particularly during her evening bottle, writhing, crying, the feed would last an hour and a half. I switched to the dr brown narrow neck bottle with the green valve which really helped, then switched to a goats milk formula which also helped for a few weeks but then she got bad again. Took her to a gastroenterologist who said she had a cows milk protein allergy and apparently goats milk masks the problem for a while then it gets bad again. We’re now on pepti 2 which is better but what has been MOST helpful thing is playing music while she’s feeding, particularly Misty Mountains from The Hobbit, started doing that when she was about 5 months and she’d finish her bottles without any crying. It’s also a good song to play when they’re crying in general for some reason…!

Mygrandkidsaregreat · 15/05/2025 18:39

Also add, have they been checked for cleft palate?

JollyRoseBiscuit · 15/05/2025 19:44

Carobel has been a savoir for my DS. Improved the reflux, he's gaining weight and managing to drink more oz per feed. Heslth visitor suggested it and some doctors put it on prescription (mine dont).
This was after we switched to aptimil pepti 1 for CMA.

She’s not in pain at all actually, a ‘happy spitter’ as they call it

FierceGrace85 · 15/05/2025 21:40

Didn’t help us, but the reflux from the Kendamil goats milk formula smelt awful and put me off goats cheese for a while! My LO is now 9 months and has largely grown out of the reflux. It wasn’t lactose intolerance or Cows milk protein allergy, it just seemed to be an age thing. Immature stomach valve or something.
