Tell me off! I keep touching my cervix. 5 weeks pregnant.

5 weeks + 1 day preggo.

Had an early scan today (previous unknown location pregnancy). Everything was perfect. I had my HCG tests done last week… again, perfect.

HOWEVER. I touch my cervix at least twice a day to see if it’s low & hard. Is it? I don’t know, I think so… not sure what I’m basing that off though. It feels hard and low when I’m sitting down. When I’m standing, I guess it’s higher?

anyway, I’m so anxious about miscarrying that I want to check to see if my cervix is open… it’s my paranoia I know but it was when I was start to miscarry my last baby.

everything this time round is so different but I can’t help but worry.

will my cervix at 5 weeks tell me much? Please tell me why I should stop checking it because I don’t want to do it anymore and every time I want to check it, I need someone’s advice to come into my head to stop me.

pregnancy after loss sucks.

did anyone else have a low cervix at 5 weeks? When do they go high? Does it tell me if I’m going to miscarry or not?

when I was about to miscarry, I checked it the day before and I had pink cervical mucus ( I check for this now too ) and it was low and open.

Eugh… I just want my baby to be okay.

I obviously have zero knowledge of my own body at 48 but I didn't even know this was possible!

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 10/05/2025 19:51

I completely understand the anxiety of pregnancy after loss. It’s debilitating! But you really must stop. The risk of infection is high but also the risk of your anxiety growing. I never did this but I tested daily for weeks when I was pregnant with DD2. If the line didn’t seem dark enough, I panicked and got myself in a right state! It really wasn’t helpful.

Pyjamatimenow · 10/05/2025 19:52

Stop poking at yourself woman. The vag needs as little interference as possible to remain happy during pregnancy.

spinkledoughnut · 10/05/2025 19:53

You don’t want that door to open, so stop knocking on it.

Bunnyisputbackinthebox · 10/05/2025 19:55

Ttc 'rules' are not generic for all. You are likely wasting your time!
For example I have many dc despite never ever seeing any evidence of cervical mucus..
I conceived dtd on day 18 of a 26 day cycle - the only sex that month!
And once from a quickie after which I had a long hot bath.
Congratulations on that positive test and step away from all sorts of tomfoolery
..

Disturbia81 · 10/05/2025 19:55

Please stop, you might get bacteria in or stimulate your cervix to miscarry. Checking it won’t do anything good.

Mrsttcno1 · 10/05/2025 19:57

You’re more likely to cause a miscarriage than anything else by doing this OP

SENSummer · 10/05/2025 19:58

They tell you sex is fine as long as you’re comfortable. If a penis can repeatedly slam into your cervix I can’t imagine touching it gently with your finger poses any significantly higher risk tbh.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 10/05/2025 19:49

Unlikely that her partners penis is physically prodding her cervix at least twice a day every day, so it’s not really the same thing. (Penis doesn’t always touch the cervix during sex!)

It always does for me, this was kind of a revelation 😭 Thanks for the sex-ed Tokittyornottokitty!

I’m honestly amazed that you’re able to reach your own cervix and would be surprised if it is actually your cervix you’re prodding. It sounds like you need some mental health support from your GP, you’re only adding risk by doing this.

What else could it be?
It's the only thing at the end of the vaginal vault.

Superscientist · 10/05/2025 20:25

There's a reason that midwives always do exams with gloved hands on and only when necessary.
I have had miscarriages so I get the anxiety. In neither case was I asked about my cervix if it was something they would want us to monitor they would ask us to do so. I think it might be beneficial for you to reach out to your epu or midwife for advice and reassurance.

I think it’s more likely that OP is poking vaginal wall tissue than her own cervix unless she’s had multiple children. If you asked I would bet 90% of midwives couldn’t find their own cervix, they don’t just sit front and centre in your vagina.

LindorDoubleChoc · 10/05/2025 20:30

62 y/o and never touched my cervix in my life!! How did I not know it was possible?

CosmicCuppa · 10/05/2025 20:33

Jesus Christ OP, you have far more chance of something going wrong by messing with your cervix than not. If a miscarriage is going to happen, it’s going to happen regardless. No point hurrying it along.

emmatcc1 · 10/05/2025 20:34

@senior30 the vaginal canal is not that long that you wouldn’t be able to reach it.
And once you reach it it’s very obvious what it is.

Of course midwives would be able to find their own cervix!

whatisheupto · 10/05/2025 20:40

I mean this kindly OP, but if you were to go on to miscarry, you will drive yourself mad worrying that you caused it by prodding your cervix twice a day.
I know from experience that you can't help feeling you did something wrong when it happens....

Same ! I obviously know where it is but I thought my fingers wouldn’t be long enough.
OP please try and relax and definitely not try and find your cervix, you will be risking introducing infection.X

I have felt hundreds of cervix and I promise you, it is not easy to reach the vast majority of them. I don’t need to debate it, maybe the OP is reaching her cervix I just find it unlikely

I can quite easily feel mine when I'm stood up? Is that not normal??

I've felt thousands and they're not difficult to reach. Or identify.

Perfectly normal.

Gyozas · 10/05/2025 21:26

You are really risking infection, which could be catastrophic. Please, please stop.

Contact your GP and please request some support psychologically.

Popquorn · 10/05/2025 21:27

Ffs stop doing it!

you don’t know how to interpret what you feel, and you risk infection and disturbance every time you do!

ARainyNightInSoho · 10/05/2025 21:35

OP, what do you think of the responses?
