Getting pregnant immediately after miscarriage

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to hear stories of anyone who got pregnant without a period after a miscarriage and any tricks they did.

I had a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks (baby stopped growing at 6 weeks). I had medical management on the 21st March (12 days ago). Bleeding stopped after 5 days. Still testing positive but very light. I got the all clear to try again when I’m ready and I don’t have to wait for a period if I don’t want to. We want to start trying but my BBT temperature is still higher than it would normally be pre ovulation and since I still am slightly positive, LH strips aren’t accurate. I am trying to track my cervical mucus, it’s currently clear and watery but not EW.

Pre pregnancy I would ovulate CD 16 +/- 2 days (tracked with natural cycles).

Should I be having sex every second day for now? Any other tips to optimise our chances? Thank you!

I am sorry for your loss.
I had a MMC with surgical intervention at 12 weeeks and got pg 1 week later, had no idea that was even possible
To be honest I wouldn't recommend it, it turned out Ok eventually but it was very very hard mentally and possibly contributed to my PND.

I’m sorry to hear of your miscarriage and PND, I hope you had all the support you needed. Congratulations on your rainbow baby too! Do you think if you had waited a couple of months that would’ve helped? I am a neonatal intensive care nurse so I think that no matter how long I wait I will always have anxiety and maybe run the risk of some trauma but would love your advice!

Hi 👋 I got pregnant twice straight after miscarriages, before my period.
I had clear blood and pregnancy tests after each miscarriage, but doctors still said I wasn't actually pregnant again, both times. I was.
Just be prepared to have to fight to be taken seriously. Sorry, no tricks to share.

I am sorry for your losses. That’s amazing that you were able to get pregnant straight away, congratulations! I hope you don’t mind me asking but did you BD a lot after your period?

Sorry for your loss OP.

I've lost 3 and did a great deal of reading up about MC's, pregnancy etc etc.

I'm yet to find a specific research paper on it, I've looked! From years on MN, I have seen many women who got pregnant straight away with not period, have often, sadly MC'd again. There are of course odd cases where they haven't, but I personally think the lining needs to recover and thicken more.

I did find 1 article that said the uterus can take several cycles to clear fully including retained products. I know this was the case in one of my losses, when a retained product came out 3mths later! No fever or signs of infection etc either!

You might find taking up the following can help. Yoga, massage, acupuncture, swimming, walking group etc. Wishing you all the best of luck x

BlondeMummyto1 · 02/04/2025 16:15

I would wait for a negative test and a period as a way to properly date the pregnancy if you fall straight away.

Nope2024 · 02/04/2025 17:00

I would wait at least a month. I waited a little bit to let things heal and because my cycles were completely out of whack after my miscarriage. One cycle was 42 days... I miscarried end of July, had a couple of months using a condom and then decided to TTC again after my September period (middle of Sept?) then pregnant in October. Now 28 weeks. 😊 Good luck!

Me too, in 2020. I terminated. I was in the depths of grief and was barely functioning. Don't regret it.

My Mum thought I was having a breakdown when I told her I was pg again
I also felt that it diminished what I had been through in other peoples eyes and I wasn't allowed to grieve properly

I had a miscarriage in Dec and conceived without a period. I didn't do anything special just had sex when we felt like having sex.
I had a pregnancy test after 2 weeks and it was a faint line, I got a negative test a week later. Towards the end of Feb I still hadn't had my period back and was starting to feel nauseous every day so I did a test. It was positive a few days later I did a week's test and got a 3+.
I phoned the epu about advice in this pregnancy as I'd had two loses in the previous 6 months. They brought me in to have my HCG test to work out whether it was worth scanning me. My HCG came back at over 100,000! I had a scan the next day and was found to be already 8 weeks and was started on progesterone. I'm now 14 weeks.

EmmaEmEmz · 03/04/2025 09:55

Yes I did. I found out I was pregnant a month to the day after my miscarriage.

She's now almost 6.

I'm so glad we didn't wait.

Congratulations! Did you do anything differently to conceive after your miscarriage? Sorry to hear of your loss :)

Thankyou. No absolutely nothing. It was, in terms of a miscarriage, an 'easy' one in that it all happened naturally and quickly (8 weeks) Started bleeding, passed it at home, scan the next day confirmed it was gone. Waited until I had stopped bleeding, which again was only a few days thankfully before we had sex (which wasn't necessarily us 'trying' to get pregnant, although we wanted to as soon as possible - we just felt the need for extra intimacy after such a shitty time and obviously it just happened straight away. I did check with midwife that it was OK and she said while there never any guarantee obviously, the reason they advise people to wait one cycle is more for dating purposes than anything but in terms of body, it was no higher risk than any other pregnancy. She was also (totally coincidentally!) the easiest pregnancy I've had out of my four successful ones.

I think for me mentally, it helped me get over the miscarriage. Not get over it completely- I don't think you ever do, even 6 years down the line I still have those 'what ifs' and light a candle to remember them, but it also gave me something else to focus on.

Sending you lots of love xxx

EmmaEmEmz · 03/04/2025 11:09

To add, (and not to rub it in at all but because it may be relevant).i appear to find getting pregnant very easy because I fell pregnant with all of my babies in the first month of trying, which I know is not common, so that could have 'helped',

I'm pregnant for the 4th time immediately after a miscarriage and this is the first time I've escaped hyperemesis! I'm hoping the pregnancy continues to be easier

ForAzureSeal · 03/04/2025 11:16

@Hoppinggreen This was almost exactly my experience. spotting at ten weeks, scan showed no growth past 6 weeks. Miscarriage happened at home while waiting for a follow up scan to check. Got pregnant again straight away, had a very tough time and now realise I had quite bad PND/PNA for at least a year after she was born. She is a delight but it was very very hard.

No hints on what we did. But would really caution jumping back in. The hormones are all over the place.

This miscarriage was our first try too so hoping that we are lucky enough again to get pregnant quickly!

Congratulations! Sorry to hear of your PND. I do worry about stress/anxiety/PND. I was quite stressed this pregnancy. Maybe I knew all along that it wasn’t viable. I am also a neonatal intensive care nurse so I feel like I’ll also be a little more stressed than the average. I have a lot of support though. I know a lot of people say to wait but I feel like for me the best way to move on is to try again. I’ve wanted a baby since I can remember so I don’t want to wait. I understand it’s a difficult decision!

Would anyone be willing to share information about their cycle from when they had a miscarriage to when they found out they were pregnant? Did your BBT regulate quite quickly after the bleeding stopped?

I had surgical intervention so not a lot of bleeding after my OP, just a bit for a day or 2
Had sex once around a week later and boom, Pregnant.
I had been advised not to test for 8 weeks so I didn't BUT I felt very hormonal and threw something at DH at one point
I thought it was just the trauma, also my Grandad died and I got my positive test the morning of his funeral (didn't tell anyone except DH) so I was all over the place anyway.
I was basically pg for a year

BTsrule · 03/04/2025 12:28

I got pregnant without having a period straight after a miscarriage.I wasn’t monitoring ovulation or temperature. Partner had been away for 2 weeks so more sex took place than normal when he got back!

It all turned out fine. Only issue was I didn’t have a reference for last menstrual
period to get an accurate due date. In hindsight I can see that my baby was not 2 weeks late as I know when I conceived. So I didn’t need to be induced.
