Wondering if I'm in labour only 36 weeks

Hello. Seeing as I've been googling, I thought I'd ask here if anyone has had similar. I'm 36 weeks pregnant today.

For the past couple of days I've had cramps, back ache and strong braxton hicks. Now today for the past 45 mins I devolved a stitch like pain in the side of my stomach and its hard to stand up. It's now moving down and now like a constant period cramp. Before this happened I also felt very hot and a little disoriented. I'm now running a bath and plan to call midwife if it doesnt resolve. As I said it's constantly there. It's my second but was induced with my first and never had this type of pain.

I think you should call your midwife or 111. Don't take any chances.

Growsomeballswoman · 22/03/2025 17:31

I’d ring them now, my DS came at 30
weeks just out of the blue, I thought it was braxton hicks. I was nearly 7 cm
dilated when I went in

Iamnotalemming · 22/03/2025 17:32

I would call the MW just to put your mind at rest.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 22/03/2025 17:34

It could be a UTI, best get checked out by midwives, I'd ring triage ASAP

Devilsmommy · 22/03/2025 17:36

I was in latent labour at 36+2 and waters finally broke at 37 so please get checked asap as you sound in alot more pain than I was

MsNevermore · 22/03/2025 17:38

Echoing the others - definitely get checked out.
Could be Labour, could be some other medical thing, could be nothing. But always worth getting checked over.

My middle one arrived at 36+0. Totally uncomplicated, low risk pregnancy, he just decided he was in a hurry to come out!

RosesAndHellebores · 22/03/2025 17:40

36.3 something shifted at 36 mild contractions which ramped up over 2 days. Never any sharp pains.

Call the maternity unit and get yourself checked.

All was well - he was posterior but born 8 hours after my waters broke.

Crikeyalmighty · 22/03/2025 17:41

with my first two I was10 days overdue and induced- so was very suprised at 38 weeks when I stood up after dinner one night and my waters broke stood in the middle of lounge- had no symptoms before that at all - I would certainly check in with midwife if this has been persistent for most of day

LollyLand · 22/03/2025 17:43

It could be anything. Please go and get checked today.

Crosswind22 · 22/03/2025 18:02

I called triage who said to take some paracetamol and to come in an hour if it doesn't settle! After a bath, I'm still cramping, can now feel it in lower back also however it's not as strong as it was about 20 mins ago so hopefully it's just one of those pregnancy things...

TumbledTussocks · 22/03/2025 18:41

Surely not isn’t as strong because you’ve taken paracetamol though?
good luck

sel2223 · 22/03/2025 19:39

I've been experiencing similar (on and off) for about 3 weeks now - I'm currently 39+1.

I've had backache, lots of pelvic pain and pressure, frequent BH, period type cramping in the side and across the bottom of my bump, lightning crotch, extreme fatigue etc. I've also had loose bowels and sickness.

You absolutely should call if you are at all worried and it doesn't let up but, for me personally, it hasn't led to anything more. I've had several nights where I've woken up to painful cramps and intense pressure but they don't become regularly spaced and stop almost as quickly as they started.

My hospital basically don't want to know unless my waters break, i have a bloody show or it develops into regularly spaced contractions over the course of an hour.

Crosswind22 · 22/03/2025 21:09

Just an update! I'm being seen to and they've mentioned pre clampsia which has surprised me. Apparently there's protien in my urine. Just waiting to be hooked up. Still having cramping but now with tightenings but I don't feel like they're consistent enough to be labour contractions. I don't know though! Fingers crossed I'm home tonight!

Fingers crossed for you @Crosswind22 you're in the right place. Is your hospital bag ready, just in case?

Crosswind22 · 22/03/2025 23:22

@Iamnotalemming yes I have my bag which is good because I'm being kept in for 24 hours as it was picked up I was having contractions and then had a test for pre term labour which came back positive. I'm sure it's just precaution but I am nervous now.

Was it the fetal fibronectin test?

I had a positive one at 36+5 with my eldest after an episode of regular contractions. The contractions petered out into nothing, and she stayed in until my waters broke at 37+6.
Very glad to see you got checked out and are being looked after!! ❤️

Crosswind22 · 22/03/2025 23:51

@MsNevermore Yes it was. I'm glad your little one got to cook a bit longer and I'm really hoping my contractions come to nothing. I'd even be happier with 37 weeks!

Partner has gone home to sleep and then in the morning get any last minute bits done. I just don't feel ready!

I know it’s anecdotal, and development for gestational age can vary wildly, especially if there’s other issues at play……but when DC2 decided he was in a mad rush and arrived spontaneously at 36+0, he was actually the healthiest of my 3.
He was a very respectable weight, needed no help with breathing, feeding or temperature regulation. He was an absolute champ.
Both of my girls or cooked for 2-4 weeks longer and both needed a bit extra help at first.
Hang tight, and hopefully all will be well with you and baby. I’ll be thinking of you!

BodeAkuna · 23/03/2025 01:21

Good luck!

sel2223 · 23/03/2025 02:57

Good luck OP. Pleased you're in the right place and being kept an eye on.

Normallynumb · 23/03/2025 04:45

Good Luck Although it’s a bit of a shock, if you have preeclampsia then baby is best delivered.

Difficultwill · 23/03/2025 05:51

My niece had her baby girl at 36+3 and she is now over a year and absolutely perfect so don’t worry. I hope you got some sleep and feel rested.
Also a friend of mine gave birth at 28+1 in the toilet at the hospital whilst doing a urine sample for them!!! The child is now at medical school and going to be a doctor with no effects from his early start in life.
Good luck and do keep posting

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 23/03/2025 06:10

@Crosswind22 I hope the next few hours, weeks and days go well for you.

You've described exactly how I felt the night DS was born at 36+5. We were kept in for a few days, but just on the normal maternity way. He's 16 now! All good.

Sleeponit · 23/03/2025 06:13

How are you this morning OP? Hope you got some sleep :)

LuubyLuu · 23/03/2025 06:33

Remember that full term isn’t actually 40 weeks but anything from 37!
