Those who had morning sickness, what could you eat and drink? Unsure if hyperemesis again but I'm just not enjoying any taste of my food. Vomiting and heaving a lot (heaving painful of I haven't had much to eat). Finally got Xonvea but hasn't kicked in properly yet.

Just throw me some of the things that worked for you. Especially drinks.

Help

Ice cold water, ice poles, mini cheddars (sometimes), tangfastics, ice cold coke (only small amounts).

I'd eat bran flakes with soy milk which I'd regularly puke back up but came out as they went in so didn't put me off! Some things are awful to puke.

Weirdly I could always manage a McDs sausages muffin and hash brown (no egg) and all their soft drinks are great as so full of ice.

I strolle ended each pregnancy lighter than the beginning though.

Hope you find a rhythm that works for you soon

Ridingthegravytrain · 27/02/2025 15:04

Skittles.

Kaybee1989 · 27/02/2025 15:12

Scrambled eggs and toast with ketchup in the morning. Loads of carbs, potato, pasta, rice etc, helped keep the nausea at bay. I didn’t really fancy anything to eat but I pushed it down and it helped me. I was drinking and still am, really diluted Robinsons squash with ice. It’s so important to stay hydrated and even more so when you’re chucking your guts up all day. I really feel your pain and hope that it passes quickly 💕

Pitstop1986 · 27/02/2025 15:18

I had terrible nausea and sickness. Just as it hit, I either ran to the staff canteen if at work, or the fridge if at home and got a Dr Pepper. Weirdly it always settled my stomach. You would have thought that it'd make it worse!

No other fizzy drinks worked, had to be Dr Pepper!

Hoppinggreen · 27/02/2025 15:21

Peppermint tea, it doesn't taste too awful on the way back up!
I was very sick (lost 2 stone) and just ate whatever I fancied on any given day and had vits, hydrated well. Any healthy eating went right out of the window.

OneEdgyScroller · 27/02/2025 15:21

My sister had horrible morning sickness with all 4 of hers but found that lemonade and salt and vinegar chips (crisps) really helped. My cousin swore she had to eat a cold boiled potato in bed, before she even moved her head or tried to get up. Weird, but it worked for her.

Melusina123 · 27/02/2025 15:22

I lived off Lucozade Sport for three weeks. Somehow found the narrow spout easier to tolerate than getting a whole mouthful of liquid at once from a glass!

Hoppinggreen · 27/02/2025 15:32

Crisps are good, in fact salty things in general worked for me

GuiltyGiraffe · 27/02/2025 15:45

Boiled sweets. Kept the bad taste out of my mouth and helped slightly with the nausea.

sel2223 · 27/02/2025 17:04

My taste buds completely change during pregnancy so, even now at 36 weeks, literally nothing tastes as good as it used to pre pregnancy!

I've had bad sickness throughout and still suffering now so you have my full sympathy, it's awful.

I think in the first trimester it's just about survival so don't get too hung up on exactly what you're eating and the nutrients etc. I survived mainly on dry crackers, crisps and melon.

The most important thing is to make sure you are hydrated with little sips as often as you can manage

lorisparkle · 27/02/2025 17:45

Lemonade, Pringles and polo mints and occasionally kiwi fruit.

Didntask · 27/02/2025 17:47

Peppers, celery, salt and vinegar crisps and Laughing Cow Cheese Triangles.

Hoppinggreen · 27/02/2025 17:56

I could eat apples but only cutted up, I couldn't bite into one

Ummusomebody · 27/02/2025 19:36

Thanks everyone. I've been able to tolerate rice and noodles. But as someone pointed out some are a lot worse coming back up. This morning I woke up perched so drank like half a cup of water. Came right back up but didn't really mind it. Less painful than trying to vomit when you're stomach is empty.
Absolutely hate the feeling. Thanks again

Fill a big glass half way with full fat milk and then top it up with very cold bottled soda water. I practically lived on that and fried bread for the first 16 weeks of my pregnancy.

Fridaysgirl17 · 27/02/2025 19:51

Sparkling water was a saviour for me, flavours either lemon/lime or summer fruit & funnily enough banana flavoured milk I know sounds rank but it worked & soup was a go to for me

PreciousRighteousTeacher · 27/02/2025 19:51

Just to add that was over thirty years ago so maybe PP’s advice might be more relevant 😂. I hope you feel better soon @Ummusomebody .

peaches692 · 27/02/2025 20:00

ice cold sparkling water - i couldn't keep still water down but for some reason managed better with sparkling.

morning rolls with laughing cow cheese
strawberry laces
calippo ice lollies

Chuchoter · 27/02/2025 20:06

I had to have hot and spicy foods with my son, I couldn't stomach anything bland.

With my daughter I had to have a fizzy drink and a Herbert or I would be sick.

SushiWarrior · 27/02/2025 20:09

Had hg with dc1, and then just normal morning sickness/food aversions with dc2&3

Things I could sometimes tolerate:

fruit (mainly watermelon, melon, grapes, strawberries, raspberries and nectarines) all have to be ice cold from the fridge,

plain pasta (sometimes with a tiny bit of butter and grated cheese),

plain rice or with a tiny bit of mayo stirred in,

jacket potato or mash with cheese,

dry crackers/melba toast (sometimes with a tiny bit of cream cheese),

ice lollies, ice cold heavily diluted squash, cheap chocolate ice cream (nothing fancy!)

also agree with pp that randomly banana milkshake (only the yazoo brand) was a life saver!

ready salted Pringles

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/02/2025 20:13

Pineapple, popcorn and fizzy water. Until popcorn suddenly didn't work. And supposedly pineapple can cause miscarriage. In big enough quantities.

It's a miracle DD is OK, honestly.

MummyJ36 · 27/02/2025 20:15

Jacket potatoes with butter and salt and pepper. Or just with salt and pepper if the butter made me feel icky. It was bland and so so boring but it filled me up and gave me some energy and never once came up! I ate this for lunch and dinner for a solid couple of weeks and it was a total lifesaver.

MummyJ36 · 27/02/2025 20:16

Oh and salt and vinegar Pringles!! They were my go to snack.

SarahLHs · 27/02/2025 20:16

Salty crisps, warm baguettes, room temperature buttery pasta, mashed potato. That was pretty much my whole diet for the first 4 months. Luckily it got better after that.

Thankyouforthrdayz · 27/02/2025 20:30

Orangina was the only thing I could drink for several weeks. Everything else smelt so disgusting.
M&S raspberry pannacotta
Home made vegetable soup.
18 years later, I still pass a Farm Shop sign on my route to work that says 'Local New Potatoes'. I still get a momentary nausea flashback.
But amazingly it suddenly lifted and I could eat anything.
