Can anyone advise me on the best sling to buy for a friend?

Is that what they are called. The baby carrying thingy? I want to order one online now. There seems so many. Oh and also, any good sites to buy it from.

TIA.

will your friend fit in it??

LOLOLOL

I'll get my coat<

Seriously though.... try kiddicare.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/05/2008 21:48

What sort of use is it likely to get?
Will she want to breastfeed in it?
Is it just to be for the baby stage, or one that will last longer?
Does she have back or other problems?

TeenyTinyTorya · 10/05/2008 21:49

Depends on the age of her child - different ages and sizes suit different slings. Check out the babywearer site.

Thomcat · 10/05/2008 21:49

I've loved my Hug-a-Bub

cmotdibbler · 10/05/2008 21:52

A ring sling is a fairly easy to use sling that suits most sizes, can be used for bfing, and lasts from tiny baby to a year or so.

littlepossums or bigmamaslings are good, also slingjax

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 21:55

I would always recommend a wrap sling. A Hug a bub, kari me, or a close sling. All are great. A close sling is easiest to use but also cost a lot. Huga bubs have more choice of colour, and a kari me is fab. Hope that helps

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 22:06

Oh....... i am confused......... thankyou so much for your replies!

Well she hasn't had her baby yet, it is due on Monday. She has often said how lovely she thinks they are when we have seen women with babbas in them.

I have no idea about anything else you have said, hugga bugga, wraparound,,,,,,,, i am lost!

I doubt she will breast feed in it, i am sure it will be for walkin around the house tidying it up!

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 22:15

Thanks Lisa, that's really good of you and a massive help, i will order off one of those when i decide.

So as women who have obviously used them what would be the nicest most luxurious gift?

OP posts:
lisad123 · 10/05/2008 22:17

oh thats a hard one. Personally love the Close sling, its easiest to tie, and lovley and soft. The hugabub isnt as soft IMO, so wouldnt be my choice. I have a Kari me which is fab but takes some practice tying. Would recommend a Close for a newbie

scottishmummy · 10/05/2008 22:18

wilkinet slingmy physio recommended this. comfy with fabric straps no faffing with buckles etc

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 22:23

Ok, i have ordered a pistachio close sling, good???

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/05/2008 22:24

Well I had the baby bjorn active last time, and will use it again this time, but it's more of a carrier than what I think of as a sling.

If I get a different one this time, it will probably be the close, but I want to work out if I can definitely feed in it before purchasing.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/05/2008 22:25

You can be my friend fairyfly .

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 22:27

she will love it, im sure, can you be my friend too?
I wish i had known about them with my first dd. The are especially good if you have a colicy baby. Hope your friend likes it, if not i will have it

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 22:30

I think it is not the ones we have seen together. They were more like Hammocks. But i imagining this makes more sense, it looks bloody complicated so i hope she does like it!

I have 300 pounds left in my bank, so i can only be six peoples friends and then i will have to come and live with you, so chose wisely amongst yourselves

The wilkinet is a good choice actually. Wrapping can be wuite hard to get right fora novice and can put some new sling users off. A wilkinet also has the benefit of lending itself to be a bit more main stream looks wise so again might sit more comfortably with a novice user.

Slings are such a personal thing and I think a Wilkinet would be a good place to start easy to use nice carrier to start with.

tyaca · 10/05/2008 22:33

oh no, i am trying to sell my new and unused close in pitascio - should've logged on earlier

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 22:33

What is a wilinet?

Do these things come with good instructions and a cub scout?

OP posts:
scottishmummy · 10/05/2008 22:38

Wilkinet sling

fabric sling long straps can be worn facing in or out, ergonomic design. i recommend it

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/05/2008 22:40

tyaca - why selling?
As I've already said, I haven't decided whether to get one or not yet, but out of interest, how much would you want for yours?

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 22:40

ohhh how much tyaca? I want!! I have sent you a CAT. I have aterrible habit of selling my slings to try and new one and then wanting them back

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 22:43

Yes, why are you selling????

And why on earth does t cost fifty quid, i can moan about this on here, not to her! I think the softness comments sold it for me, a little baby needs that. Please stop me on this trail of thread, i am getting broody.

Fairyfly, you might want to take a look at:

www.slingmeet.co.uk

Lots of good sling sellers advertise here and you might recognise the type your friend admires.

Broadly speaking, they divide into pouches, ring slings, mei tais, soft carriers and wraps.

They all have pros and cons, and it is very much a matter of personal preference, so I would hesitate to recommend one type over another.

But,if a kind fairy godmother offered to give me a new one, I would like a Babyhawk Mei Tai or a SleepyNico soft carrier. They are both very comfortable and very beautiful.

Lucky friend!

kiskideesameanoldmother · 10/05/2008 22:44

LOL, as a woman with few slings, this one with silk is right up there for luxury. It feels like the bees knees I can tell you. And v. reasonable too.

the cashmere mix one may be more luxurious. But looks like an old tablecloth on the picture.
