Is that what they are called. The baby carrying thingy? I want to order one online now. There seems so many. Oh and also, any good sites to buy it from.

TIA.

Oops, too late, you've ordered already.

scottishmummy · 10/05/2008 22:51

or flash the cash like Kate Winslett with Amberg sling a snip at £325

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 22:51

I have just found the Bigmamma page that says how to make your own sling.

I should have just wrapped up my old curtains and curtain hooks.

Scottishmummy, it looks like something you would need if you broke something! Now i realise fifty quid is quite reasonable

then here is another silk one just as gorgeous and scrummy. mo' money.

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 22:54

looks like something you would hang on a horse to stop their balls dropping

tyaca · 10/05/2008 22:55

hiya cantsleep - i just dont get on with it tbh. much prefer my wilkinet and LOVE my baby bjorn (i have ONE 9 wk old baby and 5 slings ... DH just grateful i dont have a pram habit). i'd take £30 inc p&p, thru paypal if you interested. i tried it on in the house a few times, but never with baby. got the dvd but not the box that it came in. like i say, brand-spanking new, but the straps need to be re-folded as i messed them up when trying on - meant to be a simple task but too tough for my baby-frazzled brain. lovely colour and material tho'!

scottishmummy · 10/05/2008 22:55

£325 for a sling sheesh obviously those schleb babies dont drool/puke like other ordinary babies

kiskideesameanoldmother · 10/05/2008 22:55

the kate winslet one looks fugly and uncomfortable.

a bit of whips and chains.

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 22:57

Oh shit Tyaca, i have made a bad choice haven't i. I have bought her a gift that says....... yes you have a new baby but here is something to study and wreck your brain with because you need more hassle just now.

I am laughing myself silly at the old curtains.

You're right, wraps are wickedly expensive for what is a very long length of fabric.

But it is very good fabric and they usually give you a DVD with instructions as well.

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 22:57

tyaca can you email me minx101 at hotmail dot com

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 23:01

My God mymble, you are making it worse, i have just bought my lovely friend a length of material and a dvd. Just what you need when you have given birth. How about with her next baby i buy her some flour and a recipe book, pmsl.

no no fairyfly! everyone else i know loves the close. it's just me being a bit thick and needing an excuse to buy loads more of 'em. tbh - if your mate is into slings she will prob end up with at least two dif ones cause dif slings for dif purposes. eg wrap slings great for keeping baby v close and lovely mum contact, but my baby bjorn great for getting out and about on london public transport. wilkinet for long walks tho' cause easier on back. horses for courses as i tell DH

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 23:04

honestly you havent made a mistake, you have brought her somehting that she will be able to use to get the baby to settle, make some dinner and eat it while its still warm, and trust me, you only have to watch dvd once
Also great for hubbies too, mine loves wearing baby.

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 23:06

unless you wanna swap for Kari me Tyaca

mymblemummy · 10/05/2008 23:06

No, it isn't a bad choice. I know lots of people swear by the close carrier, and they do look very snuggly for newborns and small babies, and are easier than standard style wraps to get to grips with.

They can be a bit hot though. But I doubt we're going to have roasting weather all summer. Don't let me depress you. I think it is a smashing present. So much better than yet another soft toy.

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 23:08

Oh good good, and i want to wear it now, perhaps i will keep it for my seven and nine year old and pick them up from school in it. That wouldn't disturb them at all .

Thankyou for all the advice, i am really pleased it is sorted xxxx

tyaca · 10/05/2008 23:14

and ty fairyfly, we havent had a sling thread for a while .

lisad123 · 10/05/2008 23:16

will look out for it, its lush but really want a close. Its blue

fairyfly · 10/05/2008 23:19

The good thing about the close is ( from my point of view) i don't look like i have just gone to a carboot sale and wrapped up shower curtain hooks and a table cloth.
